जाम्बवानुवाच। इष्टं चक्रप्रहारेण त्वत्तो मे मरणं शुभम्। कन्या चेयं मम सुता भर्त्तारं त्वामवाप्नुयात्
Jāmbavān said: 'My wish is to die by your discus, which is an auspicious death for me; and may this daughter of mine obtain you as her husband.'
योयं मणिः प्रसेनात्तु हत्वा चैवाप्तवानहम्। स त्वया गृह्यतां नाथ मणिरेषोऽत्र वर्त्तते
'This jewel, which I obtained after slaying Prasena, let it be taken by you, Lord; this jewel is here.'
इत्युक्तो जांबवंतं वै हत्वा चक्रेण केशवः। कृतकार्यो महाबाहुः कन्यां चैवाददौ तदा
Thus addressed, Keśava struck down Jāmbavān with the discus; his task accomplished, the mighty-armed one then accepted the maiden.
ततः सत्राजिते चैतन्मणिरत्नं स वै ददौ। यल्लब्धमृक्षराजाच्च सर्वयादवसन्निधौ
Then he gave that jewel to Satrājit, which had been obtained from the king of bears, in the presence of all the Yādavas.
तेन मिथ्याप्रवादेन संतप्तोयं जनार्दनः। ततस्ते यादवाः सर्वे वासुदेवमथाब्रुवन्
Because of that false accusation, Janārdana was afflicted; then all the Yādavas spoke to Vāsudeva.
अस्माकं मनसि ह्यासीत्प्रसेनस्तु त्वया हतः। एकैकस्यास्तु सुंदर्यो दश सत्राजितः सुताः
'In our minds it was certain that Prasena was slain by you; Satrājit has ten beautiful daughters.'
सत्योत्पन्नास्सुतास्तस्य शतमेकं च विश्रुताः। विख्याताश्च महावीर्या भंगकारश्च पूर्वजः
'His sons, born of Satyā, are said to be one hundred; they are renowned, of great valor, and Bhaṅgakāra is the eldest.'
सत्या व्रतवती स्वप्ना भंगकारस्य पूर्वजा। सुषुवुस्ताः कुमारांश्च शिनीवालः प्रतापवान्
'Satyā, devoted to vows, is the elder sister of Bhaṅgakāra; she bore sons, and Śinīvāla is the mighty one among them.'
अभंगो युयुधानश्च शिनिस्तस्यात्मजोभवत्। तस्माद्युगंधरः पुत्राश्शतं तस्य प्रकीर्तिताः
'Abhaṅga and Yuyudhāna, and Śini was his son; from him came Yugaṃdhara, and his sons are said to be one hundred.'
अनमित्राह्वयो यो वै विख्यातो वृष्णिवंशजः। अनमित्रात्शिनिर्जज्ञे कनिष्ठो वृष्णिनंदनः
'He who is called Anamitra, famed as a descendant of Vṛṣṇi; from Anamitra was born Śini, the youngest joy of the Vṛṣṇis.'
अनमित्राच्च संजज्ञे वृष्णिवीरो युधाजितः। अन्यौ च तनयौ वीरा वृषभश्चित्र एव च
'From Anamitra was born the Vṛṣṇi hero Yudhājita; and two other valiant sons, Vṛṣabha and Citra.'
ऋषभः काशिराजस्य सुतां भार्यामनिंदितां। जयंतश्च जयंतीं च शुभां भार्यामविंदत
'Ṛṣabha took as wife the blameless daughter of the king of Kāśi; and Jayaṃta obtained the auspicious Jayaṃtī as his wife.'
जयंतस्य जयंत्यां वै पुत्रः समभवत्ततः। सदा यज्वातिधीरश्च श्रुतवानतिथिप्रियः
'From Jayaṃtī and Jayaṃta was born a son, who was always devoted to sacrifice, exceedingly steadfast, learned, and hospitable.'
अक्रूरः सुषुवे तस्मात्सुदक्षो भूरिदक्षिणः। रत्नकन्या च शैब्या च अक्रूरस्तामवाप्तवान्१०० 1.13.
From him was born Akrūra, Sudakṣa, and Bhūridakṣiṇa; and Akrūra obtained Ratnakanyā and Śaibyā.
पुत्रानुत्पादयामास एकादशमहाबलान्। उपलंभं सदालंभमुत्कलं चार्य्यशैशवं
He begot eleven mighty sons: Upalambha, Sadālambha, Utkala, Āryaśaiśava,
सुधीरं च सदायक्षं शत्रुघ्नं वारिमेजयं। धर्मदृष्टिं च धर्मं च सृष्टिमौलिं तथैव च
Sudhīra, Sadāyakṣa, Śatrughna, Vārimejaya, Dharmadṛṣṭi, Dharma, and Sṛṣṭimauli as well.
सर्वे च प्रतिहर्तारो रत्नानां जज्ञिरे च ते। अक्रूराच्छूरसेनायां सुतौ द्वौ कुलनंदनौ
All of them became guardians of treasures; and from Akrūra, two illustrious sons were born in the Śūrasena line.
देववानुपदेवश्च जज्ञाते देवसंमतौ। अश्विन्यां त्रिचतुः पुत्राः पृथुर्विपृथुरेव च
Devavān and Upadeva were born, both esteemed among the gods; and from Aśvinī, three or four sons: Pṛthu and Vipṛthu as well.
अश्वग्रीवो श्वबाहुश्च सुपार्श्वक गवेषणौ। रिष्टनेमिः सुवर्चा च सुधर्मा मृदुरेव च
Aśvagrīva, Śvabāhu, Supārśvaka, Gaveṣaṇa, Riṣṭanemi, Suvarcā, Sudharmā, and Mṛdu were also born.
अभूमिर्बहुभूमिश्च श्रविष्ठा श्रवणे स्त्रियौ। इमां मिथ्याभिशप्तिं यो वेद कृष्णस्य बुद्धिमान्
Abhūmi and Bahubhūmi, and two women, Śraviṣṭhā and Śravaṇā, were born; whoever knows this false curse of Kṛṣṇa is wise.
न स मिथ्याभिशापेन अभिगम्यश्च केनचित्। एक्ष्वाकी सुषुवे पुत्रं शूरमद्भुतमीढुषम्
No one is affected by that false curse; from Ikṣvāku was born a son, a heroic and wondrous Mīḍhuṣa.
मीढुषा जज्ञिरे शूरा भोजायां पुरुषा दश। वसुदेवो महाबाहुः पूर्वमानकदुंदुभिः
From Mīḍhuṣa were born ten heroic men in the Bhoja line; Vasudeva, the mighty-armed, formerly called Ānakadundubhi.
देवभागस्तथा जज्ञे तथा देवश्रवाः पुनः। अनावृष्टिं कुनिश्चैव नंदिश्चैव सकृद्यशाः
Devabhāga was also born, as well as Devaśravā; Anāvṛṣṭi, Kuni, Nandi, and Sakṛdyaśā.
श्यामः शमीकः सप्ताख्यः पंच चास्य वरांगनाः। श्रुतकीर्तिः पृथा चैव श्रुतदेवी श्रुतश्रवाः
Śyāma, Śamīka, Saptākhya, and five noble women: Śrutakīrti, Pṛthā, Śrutadevī, Śrutaśravā,
राजाधिदेवी च तथा पंचैता वीरमातरः। वृद्धस्य श्रुतदेवी तु कारूषं सुषुवे नृपम्
And Rājādhidevī as well—these five were mothers of heroes; Śrutadevī, wife of Vṛddha, bore the king Kārūṣa.
कैकेयाच्छ्रुतकीर्तेस्तु जज्ञे संतर्दनो नृपः। श्रुतश्रवसि चैद्यस्य सुनीथः समपद्यत
From Kaikeyi, Śrutakīrti bore King Saṃtardana; and from Śrutaśravā, Sunītha was born to the king of Cedi.
राजाधिदेव्याः संभूतो धर्माद्भयविवर्जितः। शूरः सख्येन बद्धोसौ कुंतिभोजे पृथां ददौ
From Rājādhidevī was born Dharmād, free from fear; Śūra, bound by friendship, gave Pṛthā to Kuntibhoja.
एवं कुंती समाख्या च वसुदेवस्वसा पृथा। कुंतिभोजोददात्तां तु पांडोर्भार्यामनिंदिताम्
Thus Kuntī, also called Pṛthā, sister of Vasudeva, was given by Kuntibhoja as an unblemished wife to Pāṇḍu.
पाण्ड्वर्थेसूत देवी सा देवपुत्रान्महारथान्। धर्माद्युधिष्ठिरो जज्ञे वाताज्जज्ञे वृकोदरः
Desiring sons from Pāṇḍu, that noble lady bore divine sons, great chariot-warriors: from Dharma, Yudhiṣṭhira was born; from Vāyu, Vṛkodara.
इंद्राद्धनंजयश्चैव शक्रतुल्यपराक्रमः। योऽसौ त्रिपुरुषाज्जातस्त्रिभिरंशैर्महारथः
From Indra, Dhanaṃjaya was born, whose valor equaled Śakra's; he who was born from Tripuruṣa, a great warrior with threefold portions.
