The bear and Prasena, and also Prasenajit with the bear, met and fought, each desiring victory over the other.
After killing Prasena, the bear took that jewel; when Govinda heard that Prasena had been slain, he became suspicious.
By Satrājit, his brother, and by the Yādavas and others, it was said: 'Surely Govinda has killed Prasena for the sake of the jewel.'
Prasena, having gone to the forest adorned with the jewel, was struck down when he would not relinquish the Syamantaka.
He was slain for not giving it up, and Keśava became an enemy; thus, everywhere, this rumor spread, started by Satrājit.
Then, after a long time, as he went out hunting again, by chance Govinda came near the entrance of a cave.
Then, as before, the mighty king of bears made a sound; hearing that sound, Govinda, sword in hand, entered.
He saw Jāmbavān, the great and powerful king of bears; then Hṛṣīkeśa swiftly approached that bear with great speed.
With eyes reddened by anger, he seized Jāmbavān; seeing Viṣṇu thus, in his divine form and deeds,
The king of bears quickly praised him with a hymn to Viṣṇu; then the Blessed Lord, being pleased, offered him a boon.
Jāmbavān said: 'My wish is to die by your discus, which is an auspicious death for me; and may this daughter of mine obtain you as her husband.'
'This jewel, which I obtained after slaying Prasena, let it be taken by you, Lord; this jewel is here.'
Thus addressed, Keśava struck down Jāmbavān with the discus; his task accomplished, the mighty-armed one then accepted the maiden.
Then he gave that jewel to Satrājit, which had been obtained from the king of bears, in the presence of all the Yādavas.
Because of that false accusation, Janārdana was afflicted; then all the Yādavas spoke to Vāsudeva.
