दक्षिणायाः प्रदानेन स्मृतिं मेधां च विंदति । कृत्वापि पातकं कर्म यो दद्यादनुसंधिने
By giving a gift, one attains memory and intelligence; even if he has committed a sinful act, if he gives with reflection—
ब्राह्मणाय विशेषेण न स पापैर्हि लिप्यते । भूमेर्गावस्तथादासः प्रसह्य प्रहृता यदा
Especially to a brahmin, he is not tainted by sins; but when land, cows, or wealth are seized by force—
न निवेदयते यस्तु तमाहुर्ब्रह्मघातकम् । उपस्थिते विवाहे च यज्ञे दाने च वासव
He who does not report (a crime) is called a slayer of Brahmins, O Indra, especially at the time of marriage, sacrifice, or charity.
मोहाच्चरति विघ्नं यः स मृतो जायते कृमिः । धनं फलति दानेन जीवितं जीवरक्षणात्
He who, out of delusion, causes an obstacle is reborn as a worm after death; wealth increases through charity, and life through protection of living beings.
रूपमैश्वर्यमारोग्यमहिंसाफलमश्नुते । फलमूलाशनात्पूजां स्वर्गः सत्येन लभ्यते
One attains beauty, prosperity, and health as the fruit of nonviolence; by eating fruits and roots, worship is achieved; heaven is attained through truth.
प्रायोपवेशनाद्राज्यं सर्वत्र सुखमश्नुते । सुखाट्यः शक्रदीक्षायां सुगामी च तृणाशनः
Through fasting unto death, one enjoys happiness everywhere as a king; one who eats grass attains ease in the vow of Indra.
रूपी त्रिषवणस्नायी वायुं पीत्वा क्रतुं लभेत् । नित्यस्नायी भवेद्दक्षः संध्यावेदजपान्वितः
A person who bathes three times daily, drinking air, attains the sacrifice; one who bathes always becomes skilled, endowed with recitation of the Vedas at twilight.
अहिंस्रो याति वैराज्यं नाकपृष्ठमनाशकम् । अग्निप्रवेशी नियतं ब्रह्मलोके महीयते
The nonviolent attains the realm of Viraj, the imperishable highest heaven; one who enters fire is certainly honored in the world of Brahma.
रसानां प्रतिसंहारे पशून्पुत्रांश्च विंदति । नाके चिरं स वसति उपवासी च यो भवेत्
At the cessation of tastes, he obtains cattle and sons; one who fasts dwells long in heaven.
सततं भूमिशायी यः स लभेदीप्सितां गतिम् । वीरासनं वीरशयं वीरस्थानमुपासतः
He who always lies on the ground attains the desired state; for one who practices heroic posture, heroic lying, and heroic standing.
अक्षयास्तस्यलोकाः स्युः सर्वकामगमास्तथा । उपवासं च दीक्षां च अभिषेकं च वासव
His worlds become inexhaustible, and all desires are fulfilled; so too for one who undertakes fasting, initiation, and consecration, O Indra.
कृत्वा द्वादशवर्षाणि वीरस्थानाद्विशिष्यते । पावनं चरते धर्मं स्वर्गलोके महीयते
Having performed these for twelve years, he surpasses the heroic state; he practices purifying dharma and is honored in the heavenly world.
बृहस्पतिमतं पुण्यं ये पठंति द्विजोत्तमाः । तेषां चत्वारि वर्द्धंते आयुर्विद्यायशोबलम्
Those best of twice-born who recite the meritorious teaching of Brihaspati— for them, four things increase: lifespan, knowledge, fame, and strength.
नारद उवाच- इतींद्राय बृहस्पतिप्रणीतं धर्मशास्त्रकम् । मह्यं भक्ताय संप्रोक्तं महेशेनाखिलं नृप
Narada said: Thus, O king, this treatise on dharma composed by Brihaspati was spoken in full to me, a devotee, by Mahesha.
नारद उवाच- त्रिस्पृशाख्यं व्रतं ब्रूहि सर्वेश्वर विशेषतः । यच्छ्रुत्वा मुच्यते लोकः कर्मबंधनतः क्षणात्
Narada said: O Lord of all, tell me in detail about the vow called Trisprisha, by hearing which the world is instantly freed from the bondage of karma.
महादेव उवाच- सर्वपापौघशमनं महादुःखविनाशनम् । शृणु कृष्णावतारं त्वं त्रिस्पृशाख्यं महाव्रतम्
Mahadeva said: Listen to the great vow called Trisprisha, which removes all heaps of sin and destroys great suffering, and is the incarnation of Krishna.
कामदं सस्पृहाणां तु निस्पृहाणां तु मोक्षदम् । त्रिस्पृशाख्यं व्रतं विप्र शृणुष्व गदतो मम
For those who desire, it grants wishes; for the dispassionate, it gives liberation. Listen, O Brahmin, as I speak about the vow called Trisprisha.
प्रत्यक्षमर्चितस्तेन कलिकाले च केशवः । त्रिस्पृशा कीर्तनं नित्यं यः करोति महामुने
In the age of Kali, Kesava is directly worshipped by one who daily performs the recitation of Trisprisha, O great sage.
न पुरश्चरणे चीर्णे सर्वपापक्षयो भवेत् । त्रिस्पृशा नाममात्रेण क्षीयते नात्र संशयः
Even if other rituals have not been performed, all sins are destroyed by the mere name of Trisprisha; there is no doubt about this.
नागमैर्न पुराणाद्यैर्न मखैस्तीर्थकोटिभिः । बहुभिर्व्रतसंघैश्च पूजितैस्त्रिदशैरपि
Not by Agamic rites, nor by Puranas, nor by sacrifices, nor by ten million pilgrimages, nor by many groups of vows honored even by the gods—
मोक्षो भवति विप्रेन्द्र त्रिस्पृशा न कृता यदि । मोक्षार्थे देवदेवेन दृष्टा वै वैष्णवी तिथिः
O foremost of Brahmins, liberation does not arise if the Trispṛśā is not observed; the Lord of gods has declared that the Vaiṣṇavī tithi is indeed for the sake of liberation.
द्विजानां दुर्विदं सांख्यं कलिकाले विशेषतः । अनिग्रहश्चेंद्रियाणां स्थिरत्वं मनसो नहि
The knowledge of Sāṃkhya is difficult for twice-born men, especially in the age of Kali; there is no restraint of the senses, nor steadiness of mind.
विषयैर्विप्रयुक्तानां ध्यानधारणवर्जिनाम् । कामभोगप्रसक्तानां त्रिस्पृशा मोक्षदायिनी
For those separated from sense objects, lacking meditation and concentration, and attached to enjoyment of desires, the Trispṛśā bestows liberation.
मह्यं चैव पुरा प्रोक्ता चतुर्वक्त्रस्य सागरे । क्षीरोदे प्रणतानां तु मत्स्यरूपेण चक्रिणा
Long ago, this was told to me by the Four-faced One in the ocean of milk, when the Lord with the discus, in the form of a fish, addressed those who had taken refuge.
त्रिस्पृशां ये करिष्यंति विषयैरपि संयुताः । तेषामपि मया दत्तो मोक्षः सांख्यविवर्जिनाम्
Even those who perform the Trispṛśā while engaged with sense objects, I grant them liberation, even if they lack Sāṃkhya knowledge.
कामभोगप्रसक्तानां त्रिस्पृशा मोक्षदायिनी । बहुभिर्मुनिसंघैश्च कृतेयं च महामुने
For those attached to enjoyment of desires, the Trispṛśā bestows liberation; this has been practiced by many assemblies of sages, O great sage.
कार्त्तिके शुक्लपक्षे तु त्रिस्पृशा जायते यदि । सोमेन सोमजेनापि पापकोटिविनाशिनी
If the Trispṛśā occurs in the bright fortnight of Kārttika, then with Soma or even with the offspring of Soma, it destroys millions of sins.
यस्या उपोषणकृतो हत्यायुक्त महेशितुः । हस्ताद्ब्रह्मकपालं तु तत्क्षणात्पतितं भुवि
For one who observes its fast, even if involved in killing, the skull of Brahmā instantly falls from the hand of Maheśvara to the earth.
कलिकल्मषकोट्यौघैर्मुक्ता देवी त्रिमार्गगा । उपदेशान्माधवस्य त्रिस्पृशा समुपोषणात्
Freed from countless heaps of Kali's sins, the goddess traverses the three paths by the instruction of Mādhava, through the complete observance of the Trispṛśā.
हत्याष्टौ बाहुवीर्यस्य पूर्वजाता महामुने । गता भृगूपदेशेन त्रिस्पृशा समुपोषणात्
The eight killings of Bāhuvīrya from previous births, O great sage, were destroyed by the instruction of Bhṛgu through the complete observance of the Trispṛśā.
