कद्रू खसा मुनिस्तद्वत्तासु पुत्रान्निबोध मे। तुषिता नाम ये देवाश्चाक्षुषस्यांतरे मनोः
Kadrū, Khasā, and Muni likewise; hear from me about their sons. The gods named Tuṣitas, during the interval of Cākṣuṣa Manu.
वैवस्वतेंतरे चैव आदित्या द्वादश स्मृताः। इन्द्रो धाता भगस्त्वष्टा मित्त्रोऽथ वरुणोऽर्यमा
And in the interval of Vaivasvata, the twelve Ādityas are remembered: Indra, Dhātṛ, Bhaga, Tvaṣṭṛ, Mitra, Varuṇa, and Aryaman.
विवस्वान्सविता पूषा अंशुमान्विष्णुरेव च। एते सहस्रकिरणा आदित्या दाद्वश स्मृताः
Vivasvat, Savitṛ, Pūṣan, Aṃśumān, and Viṣṇu—these are called the Ādityas, the thousand-rayed, the givers of light.
मारीचात्कश्यपाज्जाताः पुत्त्रास्तेऽदितिनंदनाः। कृशाश्वस्य ऋषेः पुत्रा देवप्रहरणाः स्मृताः
Born from Mārīca and Kaśyapa, these sons are known as the children of Aditi; the sons of the sage Kṛśāśva are remembered as the wielders of divine weapons.
एते देवगणास्तात प्रतिमन्वंतरेषु च। उत्पद्यंते विलीयंते कल्पेकल्पे तथैव च
These groups of gods, O dear one, arise and dissolve in every manvantara, and so it is in each cycle of creation.
दितिः पुत्रद्वयं लेभे कश्यपादिति नः श्रुतम्। हिरण्यकशिपुं चैव हिरण्याक्षं तथैव च
It is heard by us that Diti obtained two sons from Kaśyapa: Hiraṇyakaśipu and likewise Hiraṇyākṣa.
हिरण्यकशिपोस्तद्वज्जातं पुत्रचतुष्टयम्। प्रह्लादश्चानुह्लादश्च संह्लादोह्लाद एव च
From Hiraṇyakaśipu, in the same way, were born four sons: Prahlāda, Anuhlāda, Saṃhlāda, and Hlāda.
प्रह्लादपुत्रा आयुष्मान्शिबिर्बाष्कलिरेव च। विरोचनश्चतुर्थस्तु स बलिं पुत्रमाप्तवान्
Prahlāda's sons were Āyuṣmān, Śibi, and Bāṣkali; the fourth was Virocana, who obtained Bali as his son.
बलेः पुत्रशतं त्वासीद्बाणज्येष्ठं ततो नृप। धृतराष्ट्रस्तथासूर्य्यो विवस्वानंशुतापनः
Bali had a hundred sons, with Bāṇa as the eldest, O king; Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Asūrya, Vivasvān, and Aṃśutāpana.
निकुम्भनामा गुर्वक्षः कुक्षिर्भौमोथ भीषणः। एवमन्ये तु बहवो बाणोज्येष्ठो गुणाधिकः
Nikumbha by name, Gurvakṣa, Kukṣi, Bhauma, and Bhīṣaṇa; thus, there were many others, but Bāṇa, the eldest, excelled in virtues.
बाणस्सहस्रबाहुस्तु सर्वास्त्रगुणसंयुतः। तपसा तोषितो यस्य पुरे वसति शूलधृत्
Bāṇa, with a thousand arms, was endowed with all the qualities of weapons; pleased by his austerity, the wielder of the trident dwells in his city.
महाकालत्वमगमत्सार्थ्यं यस्य पिनाकिनः। हिरण्याक्षस्य पुत्रोभूदंधको नामनामतः
He attained the status of Mahākāla and the friendship of the wielder of Pināka; Hiraṇyākṣa's son was named Andhaka.
भूतसंतापनश्चैव महानागस्तथैव च। एतेभ्यः पुत्रपौत्राणां कोटयः सप्तसप्ततिः
Bhūtasaṃtāpana and Mahānāga as well; from these, there arose seventy crore descendants of sons and grandsons.
महाबला महाकाया नानारूपा महौजसः। दनुः पुत्रशतं लेभे कश्यपाद्वरदर्पितम्
Mighty in strength, great in form, of various shapes and great energy; Danu obtained a hundred sons from Kaśyapa, granted by boon.
विप्रचित्तिः प्रधानोभूदेषां मध्ये महाबलः। द्विरष्टमूर्द्धा शकुनिस्तथा शंकुशिरोधरः
Among them, Vipracitti became the chief, mighty among the great; Dviraṣṭamūrddhā, Śakuni, and Śaṃkuśirodhara.
अयोमुखः शंबरश्च कपिलो वामनस्तथा। मरीचिर्मागधश्चैव हरिर्गजशिरास्तथा५० 1.6.
Ayomukha, Śambara, Kapila, and likewise Vāmana; Marīci, Māgadha, Hari, and Gajaśiras as well.
निद्राधरश्च केतुश्च केतुवीर्यः शतक्रतुः। इन्द्रमित्रग्रहश्चैव वज्रनाभस्तथैव च
Nidrādhara, Ketu, Ketuvīrya, Śatakratu; Indramitragraha and Vajranābha likewise.
एकवस्त्रो महाबाहुर्वज्राक्षस्तारकस्तथा। असिलोमा पुलोमा च विकुर्वाणो महासुरः
Ekavastra, Mahābāhu, Vajrākṣa, and Tāraka; Asilomā, Pulomā, and Vikurvāṇa, the great asura.
स्वर्भानुर्वृषपर्वा च एवमाद्या दनोस्सुताः। स्वर्भानोः सुप्रभा कन्या शची चैव पुलोमजा
Svarbhānu and Vṛṣaparvan—these are the foremost sons of Danu; Svarbhānu's daughter was Suprabhā, and Śacī was born of Pulomā.
उपदानवी मयस्यासीत्तथा मंदोदरी कुहूः। शर्मिष्ठा सुंदरी चैव चंडा च वृषपर्वणः
Upadānavī was the daughter of Maya, and likewise Maṇḍodarī and Kuhū; Śarmiṣṭhā, Sundarī, and Caṇḍā were daughters of Vṛṣaparvan.
पुलोमा कालका चैव वैश्वनरसुते उभे। बह्वपत्यो महासत्वो मारीचस्य परिग्रहः
Pulomā and Kālaka, both daughters of Vaiśvanara, were wives of Mārīca, possessing many children and great strength.
तयोः षष्टिसहस्राणि दानवानां पुराभवन्। पौलोमान्कालखंजांश्च मारीचोजनयत्पुरा
From them, in ancient times, sixty thousand Dānavas arose; Mārīca begot the Paulomas and Kālakhañjas.
अवध्या ये नराणां वै हिरण्यपुरवासिनः। चतुर्मुखाल्लब्धवरा ये हता विजयेन तु
Those who dwelled in Hiraṇyapura, granted boons by the four-faced one, were invincible to men, yet were slain in battle by victory.
विप्रचित्तिः सिंहिकायां नव पुत्रानजीजनत्। हिरण्यकशिपोर्येवै भागिनेयास्त्रयोदश
Vipracitti begot nine sons from Siṃhikā; and thirteen nephews of Hiraṇyakaśipu as well.
कंसः शंखश्च राजेन्द्र नलो वातापिरेव च। इल्वलो नमुचिश्चैव खसृमश्चांजनस्तथा
Kaṃsa, Śaṃkha, O king, Nala, Vātāpi, Ilvala, Namuci, Khasṛma, and Āṃjana were among them.
नरकः कालनाभश्च परमाणुस्तथैव च। कल्पवीर्यश्च विख्यातो दनुवंशविवर्द्धनः
Naraka, Kālanābha, Paramāṇu, and the renowned Kalpavīrya, who increased the lineage of Danu.
संह्लादस्य तु दैत्यस्य निवातकवचाः कुले। अवध्याः सर्वदेवानां गंधर्वोरगराक्षसाम्
From Saṃhlāda, the Daitya, came the Nivātakavacas, a clan invincible to all gods, Gandharvas, serpents, and Rākṣasas.
ये हता बलमाश्रित्य अर्जुनेन रणाजिरे। षट्कन्या जनयामास ताम्रा मारीचवीर्यतः
Those who were slain by Arjuna in battle, relying on their strength; Tāmrā, by the power of Mārīca, gave birth to six daughters.
शुकीं श्येनीं च भासीं च सुगृध्रीं गृध्रिकां शुचिम्। शुकी शुकानुलूकांश्च जनयामास धर्मतः
Śukī, Śyenī, Bhāsī, Sugṛdhrī, Gṛdhrikā, and Śuci; Śukī, by righteousness, gave birth to parrots and owls.
श्येनी श्येनांश्च भासी च कुररानप्यजीजनत्। गृध्री गृध्रान्सुगृध्री च पारावतविहंगमान्
Śyenī gave birth to hawks; Bhāsī to kuraras; Gṛdhrī to vultures; Sugṛdhrī to pigeons and birds.
