And those men or women who perform it with devoted intent—all of them, freed from sin, reach the eternal Brahman.
Diseases of the eyes, arising from the influence of sin, are destroyed; all afflictions and illnesses vanish instantly.
There is no poverty, no sorrow, no delusion, nor confusion; Lakshmi abides in the house, birth after birth, O Vaḍava.
Mahadeva said—Seeing Shatakratu accomplished, having completed the gifts and fees, Maghavan, his resolve formed, questioned Brihaspati.
O venerable one, by what gift does one everywhere attain happiness, which is inexhaustible and supremely precious? Tell me that, O great ascetic.
Thus addressed by Indra, the lord of the gods and priest, Brihaspati, the wise one, smiled and spoke to him.
The gift of gold, the gift of cows, and the gift of land, O Vāsava—he who gives these is freed from all sins.
Gold, silver, cloth, jewels, and gems, O Vāsava—all these are indeed given when one gives the earth.
Having given land that has been plowed, with seeds and covered in crops, one is honored in heaven for as long as the sun gives light.
Whatever sin a person commits, worn down by livelihood, is purified even by giving as much land as a cow's hide.
Here, a rod is ten hands long, and thirty rods make a measure; ten such measures equal a cow's hide, which is the mark of a Brahma cow's hide.
Where a thousand cows with bulls stand unrestrained, and calves are born to them, that is called a cow's hide, according to tradition.
One should give to a Brahmin who possesses virtues, is endowed with austerity, and has conquered his senses; for as long as the earth remains bounded by the ocean, the giver's reward is endless.
Just as a drop of oil spreads when it falls on water, so the gift of land spreads from crop to crop.
Just as seeds sown in the earth sprout, so desires flourish for those who are accompanied by the gift of land.
Those who give food are always happy; those who give clothes become beautiful; that man becomes a universal giver who donates land.
Just as a cow nourishes her calf by releasing milk, so, O thousand-eyed one, the earth nourishes the giver of land.
A conch, a blessed seat, an umbrella, excellent horses, and noble elephants—the reward for the merit of land-giving is heaven, O Purandara.

The ancestors clap and praise, the forefathers extol; one born in the family of a land-giver will become our protector.
Three are said to be supreme gifts: cows, earth, and Sarasvati; these lift people from hell by means of recitation, sowing, and milking.
These rescue from misfortune, as learned Brahmins declare; those who give clothes go clothed, those who do not give clothes go naked.
Those who give food depart satisfied, those who do not give food depart hungry; all ancestors, fearful of hell, long for this.
The son who goes to Gaya will become our protector; many sons are desirable, if even one goes to Gaya.
One may perform an Ashvamedha sacrifice or release a blue bull; the bull may be red in color, or pale at the tip of its tail.

The ancestors of that person partake of the radiant world of Soma; such was the case for kings Dilīpa, Nṛga, and Nahuṣa.
But for other kings, no one else attains this; the earth has been given by many kings, including Sagara and others.
Whoever owns the earth at any time, to him belongs the fruit at that time, whether he be a slayer of a Brahmin, a woman, a child, or one fallen.
