सर्वेषां रोगदोषाणां नाशनं मंगलप्रदम् । तत्तेऽहं तु प्रवक्ष्यामि शृणु त्वं नगनंदिनि
It destroys all diseases and faults, and brings auspiciousness; this I shall tell you, listen, O daughter of the mountain.
श्रीदालभ्य उवाच- भगवन्प्राणिनः सर्वे विषरोगाद्युपद्रवैः । कुष्ठग्रहाभिभूताश्च सर्वकाले ह्युपद्रुताः
Śrī Dālabhya said: O Lord, all living beings are afflicted at all times by poisonous diseases and disturbances, and are overcome by leprosy and planetary influences.
आभिचारिककृत्याद्या बहुरोगाश्च दारुणाः । न भवंति मुनिश्रेष्ठ तन्मे त्वं वक्तुमर्हसि
Many severe diseases caused by witchcraft and other actions do not arise, O best of sages; you ought to tell me about this.
पुलस्त्य उवाच- व्रतोपवासनियमैर्विष्णुर्वै तोषितस्तु यैः । ते नरा नैव रोगार्त्ता जायंते मुनिसत्तम
Pulastya said: Those men who have pleased Viṣṇu by vows, fasting, and discipline, O best of sages, do not become afflicted by disease.
यैर्न कृतं व्रतं पुण्यं न दानं न तपस्तदा । न तीर्थं देवपूजा च नान्नं दत्तं तु भूरिशः
Those who have not performed virtuous vows, nor given charity, nor practiced austerity, nor visited holy places, nor worshipped the gods, nor given abundant food—
ते वै लोकास्तदा ज्ञेया रोगदोषैः प्रपीडिताः । आरोग्यं परमामृद्धिं मनसा यद्यदिच्छति
Those worlds are to be known as afflicted by diseases and faults; if one desires supreme health and prosperity in mind—
तत्तदाप्नोत्यसंदिग्धं विष्णोः सेवी विशेषतः । नाधिं प्राप्नोति न व्याधिं न विषग्रहबंधनम्
He attains all that without doubt, especially by serving Viṣṇu; he does not suffer distress, nor disease, nor bondage from poison or planets.
कृत्यास्पर्शभयं नापि तोषिते मधुसूदने । समस्तदोषनाशश्च सर्वदा च शुभा ग्रहाः
There is no fear from the touch of witchcraft, nor when Madhusūdana is pleased; all faults are destroyed, and all planets are always auspicious.
देवानामप्यधृष्योऽसौ तोषिते च जनार्दने । यः सर्वेषु च भूतेषु यथात्मनि तथापरे
Even the gods cannot harm him when Janārdana is pleased; whoever regards all beings as himself and others alike—
उपवासादिना तेन तोषितो मधुसूदनः । तोषिते तत्र जायंते नराः पूर्णमनोरथाः
When Madhusūdana is pleased by fasting and other observances, then men are born with all their desires fulfilled.
अरोगाः सुखिनो भोगभोक्तारो मुनिसत्तम । तेषां च शत्रवो नैव न च रोगाभिचारिकम्
They are healthy, happy, and enjoy pleasures, O best of sages; their enemies do not prevail, nor do diseases caused by witchcraft.
ग्रहरोगादिकं चैव पापकार्यं न जायते । अव्याहतानि कृष्णस्य चक्रादीन्यायुधानि वै । रक्षंति सकलापद्भ्यो येन विष्णुरुपासितः
Planetary diseases and evil actions do not arise; the weapons of Kṛṣṇa, such as the discus, remain unobstructed and protect from all dangers, for whom Viṣṇu is worshipped.
श्रीदालभ्य उवाच- अनाराधितगोविंदा ये नरा दुःखभागिनः । तेषां दुःखाभिभूतानां यत्कर्त्तव्यं दयालुभिः
Śrīdālabhya said: Those men who have not worshipped Govinda are destined for suffering. What should compassionate people do for those afflicted by such suffering?
पश्यद्भिः सर्वभूतस्थं वासुदेवं सनातनम् । समदृष्टिभिरप्यत्र तन्मे ब्रूहि विशेषतः
For those who see the eternal Vāsudeva abiding in all beings, and who view all with equal vision—even for them, tell me in detail what is to be done here.
श्रीपुलस्त्य उवाच-। तद्वक्ष्यामि मुनिश्रेष्ठ समाहितमनाः शृणु । रोगदोषाशुभहरं विज्वरादि विनाशनम्
Śrī Pulastya said: I shall tell you that, O best of sages. Listen with focused mind. It removes disease, faults, and inauspiciousness, and destroys fever and the like.
शिखायां श्रीधरं न्यस्य शिखाधः श्रीकरं तथा । हृषीकेशं तु केशेषु मूर्ध्नि नारायणं परम्
Placing Śrīdhara on the śikhā (topknot), and Śrīkara beneath the śikhā; Hṛṣīkeśa among the hairs, and Nārāyaṇa the supreme on the crown of the head.
ऊर्ध्वश्रोत्रे न्यसेद्विष्णुं ललाटे जलशायिनम् । विभुं वै भ्रूयुगे न्यस्य भ्रूमध्ये हरिमेव च
Place Viṣṇu at the upper ears, Jalaśāyin on the forehead; the all-pervading Lord at the brows, and Hari at the space between the eyebrows.
नरसिंहं नासिकाग्रे कर्णयोरर्णवेशयम् । चक्षुषोः पुंडरीकाक्षं तदधो भूधरं न्यसेत्
Place Narasiṃha at the tip of the nose, Arṇaveśaya at the ears; Puṇḍarīkākṣa at the eyes, and below them Bhūdhara.
कपोलयोः कल्किनाथं वामनं कर्णमूलयोः । शंखिनं शंखयोर्न्यस्य गोविंदं वदने तथा
Place Kalkinātha on the cheeks, Vāmana at the roots of the ears; Śaṃkhī at the temples, and Govinda at the mouth.
मुकुंदं दंतपंक्तौ तु जिह्वायां वाक्पतिं तथा । रामं हनौ तु विन्यस्य कंठे वैकुंठमेव च
Place Mukunda at the rows of teeth, Vākpati on the tongue; Rāma at the jaws, and Vaikuṇṭha at the throat.
बलघ्नं बाहुमूलाधश्चांसयोः कंसघातिनम् । अजं भुजद्वये न्यस्य शार्ङ्गपाणिं करद्वये
Place Balaghna below the armpits, Kaṃsaghātin on the shoulders; Aja on both arms, and Śārṅgapāṇi on both hands.
संकर्षणं करांगुष्ठे गोपमंगुलिपंक्तिषु । वक्षस्यधोक्षजं न्यस्य श्रीवत्सं तस्य मध्यतः
Place Saṃkarṣaṇa on the thumbs, Gopa on the rows of fingers; Adhokṣaja on the chest, and Śrīvatsa at its center.
स्तनयोस्त्वनिरुद्धं च दामोदरमथोदरे । पद्मनाभं तथा नाभौ नाभ्यधश्चापि केशवम्
Place Aniruddha on the breasts, Dāmodara on the abdomen; Padmanābha at the navel, and Keśava below the navel.
मेढ्रे धराधरं देवं गुदे चैव गदाग्रजम् । पीतांबरधरं कट्यामूरुयुग्मे मधोर्द्विषम्
Place Dharādhara at the genitals, Gadāgraja at the anus; Pītāṃbaradhara at the waist, and Madhudviṣ at both thighs.
मुरद्विषं पिंडकयोर्जानुयुग्मे जनार्दनम् । फणीशं गुल्फयोर्न्यस्य क्रमयोश्च त्रिविक्रमम्
Place Muradviṣ on the knees, Janārdana at both knees; Phaṇīśa at the ankles, and Trivikrama at both feet.
पादांगुष्ठे श्रीपतिं च पादाधो धरणीधरम् । रोमकूपेषु सर्वेषु विष्वक्सेनं न्यसेद्बुधः
Place Śrīpati on the big toes, Dharaṇīdhara beneath the feet; and Viṣvaksena at all the hair follicles.
मत्स्यं मांसे तु विन्यस्य कूर्मं मेदसि विन्यसेत् । वाराहं तु वसामध्ये सर्वास्थिषु तथाच्युतम्
Place Matsya in the flesh, Kūrma in the fat; Vārāha in the marrow, and Acyuta in all the bones.
द्विजप्रियं तु मज्जायां शुक्रे श्वेतपतिं तथा । सर्वांगे यज्ञपुरुषं परमात्मानमात्मनि
Place the beloved of the twice-born in the marrow, Śvetapati in the semen; the Yajñapuruṣa throughout the whole body, and the Supreme Self in the self.
एवं न्यासविधिं कृत्वा साक्षान्नारायणो भवेत् । यावन्न व्याहरेत्किंचित्तावद्विष्णुमयः स्थितः
Having performed this rite of placement, one becomes verily Nārāyaṇa himself; as long as nothing else is uttered, one remains filled with Viṣṇu.
गृहीत्वा तु समूलाग्रान्कुशान्शुद्धान्समाहितः । मार्जयेत्सर्वगात्राणि कुशाग्रैरिह शांतिकृत्
Taking pure kuśa grass with roots and tips, with focused mind, one should touch all parts of the body with the tips of the kuśa, thus bringing peace.
