शरण्यं शरणं च त्वामाहुः सेन्द्रा महर्षयः । ऋक्सामश्रेष्ठो वेदात्मा शतजिह्वो महर्षयः
The gods along with Indra and the great sages call you the refuge and the shelter; best of the Ṛk and Sāma, the essence of the Vedas, hundred-tongued, O great sage.
त्वं यज्ञस्त्वं वषट्कारस्त्वमोंकारः परंतपः । शतधन्वा वसुः पूर्वं वसूनां त्वं प्रजापतिः
You are the sacrifice, you are the vaṣaṭ-call, you are the sacred syllable Oṃ, O subduer of foes; wielder of a hundred bows, you are Vasu of old, and among the Vasus, you are the lord of creatures.
त्रयाणामपि लोकानां आदिकर्ता स्वयंप्रभुः । रुद्राणामष्टमो रुद्रः साध्यानामपि पंचमः
Of the three worlds, you are the original creator, the self-luminous lord; among the Rudras, you are the eighth Rudra, and among the Sādhyas, the fifth.
आश्विनौ चापि कर्णौ ते सूर्यचंद्रौ च चक्षुषी । अंते चादौ च मध्ये च दृश्यसे त्वं परंतपः
The Aśvins are your ears, the Sun and Moon your eyes; at the end, at the beginning, and in the middle, you are seen, O subduer of foes.
प्रभवो निधनं चास्य न विदुः को भवानिति । दृश्यसे सर्वलोकेषु गोषु च ब्रह्मणेषु च
No one knows your origin or end, nor who you truly are; yet you are seen in all worlds, among cows and among Brahmins.
दिक्षु सर्वासु गगने पर्वतेषु गुहासु च । सहस्रनयनः श्रीमाञ्छतशीर्षः सहस्रपात्
In all directions, in the sky, on mountains, and in caves, you appear as the thousand-eyed, glorious one, with a hundred heads and a thousand feet.
त्वं धारयसि भूतानि वसुधां च सपर्वताम् । अंतःपृथिव्यां सलिले सर्वसत्वमहोरगः
You uphold all beings and the earth with its mountains; within the earth and in the waters, you are the great serpent of all creatures.
त्रींल्लोकान्धारयन्नास्ते देवगंधर्वदानवान् । अहं ते हृदयं राम जिह्वा देवी सरस्वती
You support the three worlds, along with gods, gandharvas, and demons; I am your heart, O Rama, and Sarasvati, the goddess, is your tongue.
देवा रोमाणि गात्रेषु निर्मितास्ते स्वमायया । निमिषस्ते स्मृता रात्रिरुन्मेषो दिवसस्तथा
The gods are the hairs on your body, created by your own maya; your closing of the eyes is called night, and their opening is called day.
संस्कारस्ते भवेद्देहो न तदस्ति विना त्वया । जगत्सर्वं शरीरे तत्स्थैर्यं च वसुधातलम्
Your body is the result of sacred rites; nothing exists without you. The whole world abides in your body, and the earth's firmness is yours.
अग्निः कोपः प्रसादस्ते शेषः श्रीमांश्च लक्ष्मणः । त्वया लोकास्त्रयः क्रांताः पुराणैर्विक्रमैस्त्रिभिः
Fire is your anger, grace is yours, and Lakshmana is Shesha, the glorious one; by you, the three worlds were traversed with three ancient strides.
त्वयेंद्रश्च कृतो राजा बलिर्बद्धो महासुरः । लोकान्संहृत्य कालस्त्वं निवेश्यात्मनि केवलम्
By you, Indra was made king and Bali, the great asura, was bound; after withdrawing the worlds, you alone remain as time, established in yourself.
करोष्येकार्णवं घोरं दृश्यादृश्ये च नान्यथा । त्वया सिंहवपुः कृत्वा परमं दिव्यमुत्तमम्
You create a dreadful, single ocean, both visible and invisible, and in no other way; by you, taking the form of a lion, the highest, most divine form was made.
भयदः सर्वभूतानां हिरण्यकशिपुर्हतः । त्वमश्ववदनो भूत्वा पातालतलमाश्रितः
You, giving fear to all beings, slew Hiranyakashipu; becoming horse-headed, you entered the depths of the underworld.
संहृतं परमं हव्यं रहस्यं वै पुनः पुनः । यत्परं श्रूयते ज्योतिर्यत्परं श्रूयते परः
The supreme oblation, the secret, is repeatedly withdrawn by you; that which is called the supreme light, that which is called the supreme beyond.
यत्परं परतश्चै वपरमात्मेति कथ्यते । परो मंत्रः परं तेजस्तमेव हि निगद्यसे
That which is supreme, and beyond even that, is called the supreme self; the supreme mantra, the supreme radiance—that indeed is said to be you.
हव्यं कव्यं पवित्रं च प्राप्तिः स्वर्गापवर्गयोः । स्थित्युत्पत्तिविनाशांस्ते त्वामाहुः प्रकृतेः परम्
The oblation, the ancestral offering, the purifier, and the attainment of heaven and liberation; the creation, sustenance, and destruction—they say you are beyond nature.
यज्ञश्च यजमानश्च होता चाध्वर्युरेव च । भोक्ता यज्ञफलानां च त्वं वै वेदैश्च गीयसे
You are the sacrifice, the sacrificer, the priest, and the adhvaryu; you are the enjoyer of the fruits of sacrifice, and you are sung by the Vedas.
सीतालक्ष्मीर्भवान्विष्णुर्देवः कृष्णः प्रजापतिः । वधार्थं रावणस्य त्वं प्रविष्टो मानुषीं तनुम्
You are Sita, Lakshmi, Vishnu, the god Krishna, and the lord of creatures; for the destruction of Ravana, you entered a human form.
तदिदं च त्वया कार्यं कृतं धर्मभृतां वर । निहतो रावणो राम प्रहृष्टा देवताः कृताः
Thus, this deed was accomplished by you, O best of the righteous; Ravana was slain, O Rama, and the gods were made joyful.
अमोघं देववीर्यं ते न ते मोघः पराक्रमः । अमोघदर्शनं राम न च मोघस्तव स्तवः
Your divine power is unfailing, your valor is never in vain; your vision is unfailing, O Rama, and your praise is never fruitless.
अमोघास्ते भविष्यंति भक्तिमंतो नरा भुवि । ये च त्वां देव संभक्ताःपुराणं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Those men on earth who are devoted to you, O god, the ancient supreme person, their devotion will never be in vain.
इममार्षस्तवं पुण्यमितिहासं पुरातनम् । ये नराः कीर्तयिष्यंति नास्ति तेषां पराभवः
Those men who recite this auspicious ancient legend and hymn of forgiveness shall never suffer defeat.
कथमिह हि पराभवं व्रजेयुः पुरुषवराः पुरुषोत्तमे हि भक्ताः । नहि जगति चतुर्भुजप्रियाणां त्रिदश इहास्ति वरप्रदो विशिष्टः
How could noble men devoted to the Supreme Person ever meet with defeat here? Indeed, in this world, there is no superior giver of boons among the gods for those dear to the four-armed Lord.
स्तोत्राणां प्रवरं स्तोत्रं राघवस्य महात्मनः । त्रिकाले यः पठेन्नित्यं महापातकवानपि
This hymn, the foremost among hymns, belongs to the great-souled Rāghava; whoever recites it daily at the three times, even if burdened with great sins,
संध्याकाले द्विजश्रेष्ठैः श्राद्धकाले विशेषतः । पठनीयं प्रयत्नेन भक्तिभावेन चेतसा
Should recite it with effort and devotion in mind, especially at the time of twilight and during śrāddha, O best of twice-born.
इदं गोप्यं हि परमं नाख्येयं कर्हिचित्क्वचित् । पठनान्मुक्तिमाप्नोति सात्त्वतः स भवेद्ध्रुवम्
This is a supreme secret and must never be revealed anywhere at any time; by reciting it, one attains liberation and surely becomes sattvic.
प्रथमं पिंडपूजांते ब्राह्मणैर्द्विजसत्तमैः । पठितव्यमिदं स्तोत्रं श्राद्धमक्षयमाप्नुयात्
After the piṇḍa offering, this hymn should be recited by excellent Brāhmaṇas; by doing so, the śrāddha becomes inexhaustible.
इदं पवित्रं परमं जनानां मुक्तिदायकम् । लिखित्वा वै गृहे यस्तु धारयेत्सुसमाधिना
This supreme and pure hymn grants liberation to people; whoever writes it and keeps it at home with focused mind,
आयुः श्रीश्च बलं तस्य वृद्धिं याति दिनेदिने । लिखित्वा ब्राह्मणे दद्याद्धीमान्यो वै कदाचन
His lifespan, prosperity, and strength increase day by day; at any time, a wise person may give it to a Brāhmaṇa after writing it.
