For the destruction of all heaps of sin, I worship with repeated salutations; and with all these mantras, having meditated on Viṣṇu, one should worship him.
O King of Dharma, obeisance to you; O King of Dharma, salutations to you; to you, Lord of the southern direction, obeisance, O rider of the buffalo.
Obeisance to Citragupta, to the wondrous one, repeated salutations; for the removal of the torments of hell, grant me the desires I wish for.
To Yama, to Dharmarāja, to Mṛtyu, to Antaka, to Vaivasvata, to Kāla, and to the destroyer of all beings—obeisance.
Obeisance to Vṛkodara, to Citrā, to Citragupta; and to Nīla and Dadhna, always, repeated salutations.
Thus, the Lord King of Dharma should be worshipped with these twelve names; O Vaitaraṇī, exceedingly difficult to cross, destroyer of sin, fulfiller of all desires.
O illustrious one, come here and accept the arghya I have prepared; on the dreadful path to Yama's gate is the renowned river Vaitaraṇī.
For the sake of deliverance in that river, which transcends birth, death, and old age, which is hard to cross for evildoers, and which removes all fear from living beings.
Out of fear of her, beings who are subject to torment sink down; but one who wishes to cross that dreadful river—obeisance to you, O victorious goddess.
In that river, the gods reside; that Vaitaraṇī river, when worshipped with devotion, brings delight to Keśava as well.
On whose banks sages and ancestors enter—she, too, in the form of a river, is honored and removes sins.
To cross her, I shall give you the means for complete liberation from all sins; for the sake of merit, I will now tell you about the Vaitarani river.
I have worshipped you with devotion, for the pleasure of Kesava; O Krishna, Krishna, Lord of the Universe, rescue me from worldly existence.
By merely uttering your name, remove all my sins; the sacred thread, supreme, has been made with ninety threads.
Accept this, O Lord of the gods, and, pleased, grant me my desired boon; here is your betel leaf, as beautiful as I am able to offer.
Accept this, O Lord of the gods, and lift me from the ocean of existence; this five-wicked lamp is for your worship, O Lord of the gods.
O sun dispelling the darkness of delusion, endowed with devotion, remover of worldly suffering; this supreme, well-cooked food, filled with all flavors—
—has been offered by me with devotion; O Lord, may you accept it; with the twelve-syllable mantra, as prescribed, by recitation—
—may the beloved of Sri be pleased with me and, being pleased, grant what is desired; five cows arose when the great ocean was churned.
Among them, the one named Nanda—to that cow I offer repeated salutations; having duly worshipped the cow, one should attentively offer arghya.
O goddess, fulfiller of all desires, remover of all endings, always grant me health and a long lineage, O Nandini.
Worshipped by Vasistha and the wise Visvamitra, and by Kapila—remove the sins I have previously accumulated.
May cows be before me, may cows be behind me; may those with golden horns and yielding milk stand by me in heaven.
O Surabhi and her descendants, like rivers and oceans; O goddess composed of all the gods, O Subhadra, lover of devotees—
Thus, having worshipped according to rule, one should daily offer to the cows; the descendants of Surabhi are beneficent to all, pure, and destroy sin.
May the cows, mothers of the three worlds, accept my offering; salutations to Ganga for prosperity and the removal of all sins.
With this very mantra, a wise person should ward off disease; 'paṃ'—salutation to Padmanabha—one should hold a lotus, O wise one.
'caṃ'—to Vishnu in the form of the discus, the holding of the discus is remembered; 'śaṃ'—to you in the form of the conch, salutations to the bringer of happiness.
By this mantra, messengers are said to bear the conch-born mark; the wearing of the four weapons is remembered by sages.
Just as the daily Agnihotra and study of the Veda are duties, so too is the wearing of heated marks and similar for a Brahmin.
