Wealth, prosperity, wisdom, kingdom, and happiness—Haribodhinī, when observed with devotion, bestows these upon people.
All the sins said to be as great as Meru and Mandara are burned away by the sin-destroying fast, even with a single observance.
The sins accumulated over a thousand previous births are burned away by staying awake at night on this day, just as a heap of cotton is consumed.
Whoever naturally observes the fast on Prabodhinī, O tiger among sages, receives the result as prescribed by the rules.
Whoever performs the prescribed good deed according to the rules, O best of great sages, even a small act yields a result equal to Meru.
But if someone performs a good deed the size of Meru without following the rules, O Nārada, he obtains only a result the size of a particle.
Those who meditate with the mind's intent, those who will observe the Bodhinī— their ancestors dwell joyfully in the world of Viṣṇu.
Freed from the sufferings of hell, one attains the supreme abode of Viṣṇu, even if a person has committed terrible sins such as the slaying of a brāhmaṇa.
By keeping vigil for Viṣṇu, a person becomes cleansed of sin; the result, O brāhmaṇa, which is difficult to obtain even by great sacrifices like the Aśvamedha, is attained with ease through the vigil of Prabodhinī.
By bathing in all sacred waters and giving away gold and land, one attains that same fruit which comes from keeping vigil on Prabodhinī with joy.
The fruit that comes from keeping vigil for Hari equals that of bathing in all tīrthas and giving great gifts; such a person is born fortunate, and his lineage is purified by him.
O best of sages, in the month of Kārtika, whoever performs the Prabodhinī— just as death is certain for men, so too is the impermanence of wealth and the body.
Knowing this, O foremost of sages, one should observe the Vaiṣṇava day; whatever sacred places exist in the three worlds—
All those are present in the house of one who properly observes Prabodhinī; what need has he for many other merits, who has performed Prabodhinī?
This Haribodhinī in Kārtika grants sons and grandsons; he is a knower, a yogī, an ascetic with controlled senses.
Both enjoyment and liberation belong to the one who worships Haribodhinī; she is most dear to Viṣṇu, the companion of the essence of dharma.
Whoever observes Prabodhinī with devotion, that person partakes of both enjoyment and liberation; having observed Prabodhinī, he does not enter the womb again.
Therefore, O Nārada, abandoning all other duties, one should perform this; whatever sin has been accumulated by deed, mind, or speech—
Govinda washes away that sin during the vigil of Prabodhinī; bathing, giving, recitation, and worship performed for Janārdana—
Whatever a person does on Prabodhinī— bathing, giving, reciting, worship— all that becomes imperishable; those who worship Mādhava with devotion on that day—
Having observed the fast, they are freed from sins accumulated over a hundred births; this is a great vow, O son, destroyer of a multitude of great sins.
One should properly observe the awakening day of Viṣṇu; by this vow, having satisfied the Lord Janārdana—
He adorns all directions and goes to the abode of Hari; this should be performed with effort by those who desire radiance and wealth.
The sin accumulated in childhood, youth, or old age— whether little or much, even that committed over a hundred births—
When Govinda is worshipped in this, he washes away the sins of people; it brings wealth and grain, is auspicious, and removes all sins supremely.
By observing it with devotion to Hari, nothing remains unattainable; the fruit described for the eclipse of the moon or sun—
That is said to be a thousand times greater when performed on Prabodhini night: bathing, charity, recitation, offering, study, and worship of Hari.
All of these, when done on Prabodhini, are multiplied ten million times; whatever merit a person has acquired since birth—
All of that becomes futile if one does not observe the Kartika vow; whoever neglects the discipline of Vishnu in Kartika—
He does not obtain the fruit of merit earned from birth, O Narada; therefore, with all effort, one should serve Janardana, Lord of gods.
