Whoever mocks the vigil of Vishnu, is born as a worm in excrement for sixty thousand years.
A Brahmin learned in the Vedas who mocks, especially by dancing, is indeed called a Chandala.
Whoever remains awake, even for a moment or half a moment, attains the imperishable state of dharma, artha, kāma, and mokṣa.
One who is always devoted to the Vedas and scriptures, and who regularly performs sacrifices, but speaks ill during the night of vigil, falls downward.
He who performs my worship but is intent on reviling Viṣṇu, goes to hell along with twenty-one generations of his family.
Viṣṇu is Śiva, and Śiva is Viṣṇu; one form appears as two. Therefore, in every way, one should never utter slander; those bitten by the serpent of Kali sleep during the festival of the Slayer of Madhu.
Those who do not keep vigil are deluded by Māyā; for whom the Ekādaśī has come in Kali Yuga without wakefulness.
They are destroyed, without doubt, for life is uncertain; but those who keep their eyes open attain the Vaiṣṇava abode.
Sinners who do not witness the night vigil for Hari, in the absence of a reciter, should arrange for singing and dancing.
If a reciter is present, O divine sage, one should first recite the Purāṇa; this equals a thousand Aśvamedha sacrifices and ten thousand Vājapeya sacrifices.
The merit gained, my child, by keeping vigil for Viṣṇu is a crore times greater; whether for the paternal side, maternal side, or the wife's family, O Vāḍava.
By performing the night vigil for Hari, one uplifts these family lines; on the prescribed day of fasting, one should keep vigil and worship Hari.
All acts of charity and the like, done for the ungrateful, are in vain; so too, keeping vigil on a day when fasting is not properly observed is fruitless.
Abandoning that place, Viṣṇu departs after giving a curse; those who keep vigil on a day not properly observed.
Among them, when pleased, Hari himself dances; for as many days as one keeps vigil before Keśava.
For as many ages as one keeps vigil, so many ages is one honored in the world of Viṣṇu; for as many days as one lives without keeping vigil for Hari.
For that many thousands of years, one does not return from Raurava; one who lies down on Ekādaśī without keeping vigil for Hari.
He who sits silent like a mute, not singing or reciting, remains mute for seven births for not keeping vigil for Hari.
One whose mind is deluded and does not dance before Hari during the vigil, know, O Vāḍava, that he becomes lame for seven births.
But whoever sings, dances, and keeps vigil for Hari, truly attains my Brahman state and the Vaiṣṇava state.
Whoever enlightens people, devoted to the vigil of Vishnu, dwells for a long time in Vaikuntha together with his ancestors, as a Vaishnava.
He who gives his mind toward the vigil of Hari lives for sixty thousand years in Shvetadwipa, O man.
Whatever little sin is committed by humans in ten million births, all of it is destroyed in the night during the vigil for Shri Krishna, O Vadava.
Those who perform the vigil before the Shalagrama stone, for each watch of the night, the fruit is said to be equal to that produced in ten million Indra lifetimes.
When the day of Vishnu arrives, those who do not perform the vigil, their actions are in vain, and so too by criticizing Vaishnavas.
Desires, wealth, sons, fame, and eternal worlds—even with thousands of sacrifices, these are not attained without the vigil on the twelfth day.
For one whose mind does not incline toward the vigil on the twelfth day, he has no right to worship Kesava.
As many steps as are taken toward the temple of Kesava, for the sake of the vigil, each is equal to an Ashvamedha sacrifice.
For as long as the dust from the feet falls upon the earth while walking, for that many thousand years, the vigil dwells in heaven.
Therefore, one should depart from home for the vigil at the temple of Kesava, on each twelfth day, in Kali Yuga, for the destruction of impurity.
