Thus, and in this manner, it should be done so that the guru attains satisfaction; for the guru was created by the Creator for the deliverance of the worlds.
Therefore, worship of the guru must indeed be performed with great care; he who removes harm and always shows one's own good.
He is the guru, he should be known as such, who is wise in all the meanings of dharma; without deceit regarding wealth, one should offer it to the guru.
When it has been offered to the guru, O king, the vow becomes complete; having performed the day's rites, one should eat together with the brāhmaṇas.
This should be done, O best of kings, and the day should be spent with stories; whoever performs the Unmīlanī vow according to this method—
He dwells in the presence of Viṣṇu for thousands of millions of aeons.
Nārada said: 'O great god, what is the nature of the vow called Pakṣavardhinī, by which, when performed, a being is freed from great sin?'
Śrī Mahādeva said: 'Whether without or with amā, when it is complete, it arises; being sixty nāḍikās, it occurs on the first day; it is equal to ten thousand horse sacrifices—such is the Pakṣavardhinī.'
Nārada said: I now ask you, O best of the gods, about the procedure of worship, by which one attains great merit, O Mahādeva.
Mahādeva said: I shall now explain to you, O delight of the twice-born, the procedure of worship, by which, when Viṣṇu is worshipped and honored, one certainly attains the fruit.
By the procedure of worship through which Mādhava becomes pleased: a flawless, water-filled pot, anointed with sandalwood paste,
adorned with a garland of flowers and set with five kinds of gems, should be placed, and upon it a copper vessel with wheat grains.
One should fashion a golden image of the god, named according to the month, and bathe it delightfully with the five nectars, according to the proper rite.
One should worship the Lord of gods, the Lord of the universe, the protector of the world; and the anointing should be done with saffron, agaru, and sandalwood.
A pair of garments should be offered, along with an umbrella and footwear; one should worship the Lord of the deities, who is established above the pot and vessel.
To Padmanābha, the feet; to Viśvamūrti, the knees; to Jñānagamya, the thighs; to Dānaprada, the hips should be offered.
To Viśvanātha, the belly; to Śrīdhara, the heart; to Kaustubhakaṇṭha, the throat; to Kṣatrāntakārin, the arms.
To Vyomamūrdhan, the forehead; to Sarvarūpin, the head; and to Kamalā, in her own name, the entire divine form.
Having thus worshipped according to the rite, the wise should then offer arghya, with a pure coconut, to the God of gods, the wielder of the discus.
By this very offering of arghya, the vow is fulfilled; O Lord of the world, lift me up, who am sunk in the ocean of worldly existence.
You are the Lord of all worlds, you are indeed the Lord of the universe; accept the arghya offered by me—obeisance to you, Padmanābha.
The offerings of food, especially those of six tastes and pleasing to the heart, should be given with special devotion to Keśava.

With devotion, one should offer nāgapatra with camphor to the deity, and prepare a lamp with ghee or, again, with sesame oil.

Having performed the worship properly according to the rite, one should also honor the teacher, giving garments, a turban, and a robe.
One should give a gift to the teacher according to one's ability, and after giving food and betel, offer the arghya.
According to one's means, and with proper effort, even by those who are poor, the dvādaśī vow, which increases merit, should be performed well.
Then one should hold a night vigil accompanied by singing and dancing, together with the recitation of the Purāṇas, filled with laughter and delight.
They praise and glorify the night vigil of the wielder of the discus; for them, there is a perpetual festival in their home for ten lifetimes.
Therefore, this most blessed observance, which increases the lunar fortnight, should be performed; having done all the meritorious acts, one surely attains their fruit.
Those wise ones who listen to the greatness of the fortnight-increasing vow—by them, all good deeds are accomplished and honored until the dissolution of the world.
