O dear one, worship with blades of dūrvā grass is always very rare; the merit from worship with dūrvā equals that of giving the earth itself.
Therefore, in this world, there is nothing on earth equal to dūrvā grass; with it, worship should be performed by one who desires union with Viṣṇu.
Therefore, you should always perform worship together with dūrvā grass; especially, worship should be done with barley and unbroken rice as well.
O best of kings, in each fortnight, the dvādaśī vow should be properly observed; whatever is done, O great king, destroys great sins.
This observance of Vishnu, which grants liberation, happiness, and always bestows long life, is declared to be a giver of liberation for the followers of Vishnu.
For householders, it brings happiness; for ascetics, it grants liberation. It removes all diseases and impurities, purifies, and cleanses the body.
O king, whether you perform this vow or not, it must be observed without the presence of the tenth lunar day and should be undertaken with vigilance.
Every day, you worship Hari with clusters of tulasi leaves, and, O best of kings, you place gopīcandana paste or leaf on your forehead.
O king, wearing it sanctifies all the worlds; therefore, you should wear what is produced from gopīcandana.
Even a slayer of a Brahmin, a thief of gold, a drinker of liquor, one who approaches the forbidden, a great sinner, or a speaker of falsehood—
All these, if they faithfully wear the tilaka, attain liberation. You always wear around your neck a garland made from the fruit of the dhātrī tree.
A principal garland, numbering thousands, made from tulasi leaves, adorned with a śālagrāma stone, and originating from Dvārakā.
O king, you daily worship that which grants both enjoyment and liberation as its fruits. You recite the ancient Padma scripture before Hari.
O king, you recite the deeds of the demon king and of Prahlāda, and you observe the day of Vāsudeva with all its rites.
O ruler of the earth, you carefully prohibit, upon seeing the scriptures, any violation of the full observance of Vishnu's day in your kingdom.
If a king allows the fourfold violation, he becomes tainted by that sin and goes to hell. But by perfectly observing Hari's day, he uplifts countless generations of his lineage and is honored in Vishnu's world.
Gautama said: Listen, O king, I will tell you of the great vow called Vaiṣṇava. Hearing it, all sinners are instantly liberated.
This meritorious vow, arising on the twelfth day, has been revealed by me and is not known to anyone else.
O great king, you are a Vaiṣṇava, a devotee among men devoted to the Bhāgavata. Now listen to this most secret Vaiṣṇava vow.
Long ago, O king, Mādhava, being greatly pleased, told me with devotion about the vow called Unmīlanī. I will now tell it to you.
The eleventh day and night, until the morning, should be observed; this is known as the Unmīlanī vow, especially dear to Hari.
All the sacred places and holy shrines in the three worlds, all sacrifices, Vedas, and austerities, are not equal even to a fraction of this.
There has never been, nor will there ever be, any place equal to Unmīlanī—not Prayāga, nor Kurukṣetra, nor Kāśī, nor Puṣkara.
Neither the Himālaya mountain, nor Meru, nor Gandhamādana, nor Nīla, Niṣadha, Vindhya, nor Naimiṣa can compare.
Not the Godāvarī, nor Kāverī, nor Candrabhāgā, nor Vedikā; not Tāpi, nor Payoṣṇī, nor Kṣiprā, nor Candana.
Not Carmaṇvatī, nor Sarayū, nor Candrabhāgā, nor Gaṇḍikā; nor Gomatī, nor Vipāśā, nor the great river called Śoṇa.
What need is there for many words, O king of men? There is nothing equal to Unmīlanī, nor any god greater than Keśava.
Those who have worshipped Keśava according to the rite of Unmīlanī have, in a moment, cast off the heaps of accumulated sins.
In whatever month, O protector of the earth, the Unmīlanī tithi occurs, Govinda should be worshipped with special effort under the name of that month.
A golden image of Mādhava should be made, named after the month, and, according to one's ability, the universal form should be honored with faith and devotion.
