यात्रासु पश्यति शुभां तुलसीं पवित्रां यो भक्तिभावसहितो मनुजो हि नूनम् । यात्राफलं सकलमेव हरिप्रसादात्तस्याशु सिद्ध्यति वचः सुदृढं ममैतत्
If, during pilgrimages, a person sees the auspicious and pure Tulasī with devotion, then by Hari’s grace, he quickly attains all the fruits of pilgrimage—this is my firm word.
त्यक्त्वा सुगन्धिकुसुमं भुवनैकनाथो मंदारकुन्दनलिनादिकमप्यनंतः । गृह्णाति सद्गुणमयीं तुलसीं प्रमोदैः शुष्कामपि प्रचुरपापविनाशरक्षाम्
The Lord of the worlds, abandoning fragrant flowers—even mandāra, kunda, lotus, and others—accepts with delight the virtuous Tulasī, even if dry, which is endowed with good qualities and destroys abundant sin.
उत्पाट्य चैव तुलसीं भुवि निक्षिपंति पापाशयाऽमृतलताभ निदानभूताम् । अज्ञानतो नरहरिस्तुलसीप्रियोऽसौ तेषां श्रियं हरति संततमेव सत्यम्
Those who, out of sinful intent, uproot Tulasī and throw her on the ground—she who is like the nectar-creeper and the source of immortality—Narahari, who is fond of Tulasī, unknowingly takes away their prosperity forever; this is the truth.
मूत्रं पुरीषं तुलसीतलेषु कुर्वंति येऽपि च मलं सततं मनुष्याः । देवाश्रये संचित पातकानां तेषां हरत्याशु हरिर्धनानि
Even those people who constantly defile the ground of Tulasī with urine, feces, or other filth—Hari quickly takes away the accumulated wealth of those who have gathered sins in the abode of the gods.
नारायणस्यपूजार्थं चिनोमि त्वां नमोस्तुते । कुसुमैः पारिजाताद्यैर्गंधाद्यैरपि केशवः
For the worship of Nārāyaṇa, I gather you—obeisance to you! Even with flowers like pārijāta and with fragrances, Keśava is worshiped.
त्वया विना नैति तृप्तिं चिनोमि त्वामतः शुभे । त्वया विना महाभागे समस्तं कर्म निष्फलम्
Without you, O auspicious one, satisfaction is not attained; therefore I gather you. Without you, O greatly fortunate one, all action is fruitless.
अतस्तु तुलसी देवि चिनोमि वरदा भव । चयनोद्भव दुःखं ते यद्देवि हृदि जायते
Therefore, O goddess Tulasī, I gather you—be gracious! Whatever pain arises in your heart from being plucked, O goddess—
तत्क्षमस्व जगन्नाथे तुलसि त्वां नमाम्यहम् । कृताञ्जलिरिमान्मन्त्रान्पठित्वा वैष्णवो जनः
Forgive that, O Tulasī, O Lord of the universe; I bow to you. Having joined his palms and recited these mantras, the Vaiṣṇava person—
करतालद्वयं दत्वा चिनोति तुलसीदलम् । यथा न कंपते शाखा तुलस्या द्विजसत्तम
By placing both palms together and gathering a tulasi leaf, O best of twice-born, the branch of the tulasi does not tremble.
पत्रस्य चयने देवी भग्नशाखा यदा भवेत् । तदा हृदि व्यथा विष्णोर्ज्जायते तुलसीपतेः
When, in gathering a leaf, the branch of the goddess tulasi is broken, then pain arises in the heart of Vishnu, the Lord of Tulasi.
शाखाग्रात्पतितं भूमौ पत्रं पत्रं पुरातनम् । तेनापि पूज्यो गोविन्दो मधुकैटभमर्द्दनः
Even an old leaf that has fallen to the ground from the tip of a branch is fit for worshipping Govinda, the slayer of Madhu and Kaitabha.
कोमलैस्तुलसीपत्रैर्योऽर्चयेदच्युतं प्रभुम् । सर्वं स लभते शीघ्रं यद्यदिच्छति चेतसा
Whoever worships the infallible Lord with tender tulasi leaves quickly obtains whatever he desires in his heart.
जैमिनिरुवाच- तुलसीवृक्षसदृशः कोवृक्षोऽस्ति द्विजर्षभ । तमहं ज्ञातुमिच्छामि ब्रूहि सत्यवतीसुत
Jaimini said: O foremost of twice-born, is there any tree equal to the tulasi tree? I wish to know this; tell me, son of Satyavati.
व्यास उवाच- यथा प्रियतमा विष्णोस्तुलसी सततं द्विज । तथा प्रियतमा धात्री सर्वपापप्रणाशिनी
Vyasa said: Just as tulasi is always most dear to Vishnu, so too the amalaki is most dear, and destroys all sins.
तुलसीवृक्षमासाद्य या यास्तिष्ठंति देवताः । आमलक्यास्तले तास्ता निवसंति द्विजोत्तम
O best of twice-born, the deities who dwell near the tulasi tree also reside beneath the amalaki tree.
गंगादीनि च तीर्थानि तत्रैव द्विजसत्तम । विष्णुप्रियतमा धात्री पवित्रा यत्र तिष्ठति
O best of twice-born, all holy places such as the Ganga are present where the pure amalaki, most dear to Vishnu, stands.
अशुभं वाशुभं वापि यत्कर्मामलकीतले । क्रियते मानवैर्विंप्र भवेत्तत्सत्यमक्षयम् ५० 7.24.
O brahmin, whatever action, auspicious or inauspicious, is performed by men beneath the amalaki tree, that surely becomes true and imperishable.
पवित्रैर्नूतनेः पत्रैर्धात्र्या यः पूजयेद्धरिम् । स मुक्तः पापजालेन सायुज्यं लभते हरेः
Whoever worships Hari with fresh, pure leaves of the amalaki is freed from the net of sin and attains union with Hari.
धात्री च तुलसीदेवी न तिष्ठेद्यत्र जैमिने । स्थानं तदपवित्रं स्यान्न च क्रियाफलं लभेत्
O Jaimini, wherever the amalaki and tulasi goddess do not dwell, that place is impure and no fruit of action is obtained there.
न तिष्ठत्याश्रमे यस्य धात्री च तुलसी शुभा । तेन कर्म कृतं सर्वं नूनं गच्छति निष्फलम्
Where the auspicious amalaki and tulasi do not reside in an ashram, all actions performed there certainly become fruitless.
धात्र्या तुलस्या हीनं च निलयं यस्य भूसुर । अलक्ष्मीः पातकं सर्वं कलिश्च तेन तोषितः
O holy one, the dwelling where amalaki and tulasi are absent is afflicted by misfortune, all sin, and is favored by Kali.
स्थाने तस्मिन्द्विजश्रेष्ठ न धात्री तुलसी न च । श्मशानतुल्यं स्थानं तद्विज्ञेयं तत्वदर्शिभिः
O best of twice-born, the place where neither amalaki nor tulasi are found should be understood by the wise as equal to a cremation ground.
धात्री च तुलसी यत्र तिष्ठेत्तत्राखिलाः सुराः । न धात्री तुलसी पत्रं तत्रैवाखिलपातकम्
Where amalaki and tulasi are present, all the gods dwell; but where there are no amalaki or tulasi leaves, all sin is found.
धात्रीफलस्रजं यस्तु पापहर्त्रीं वहेद्बुधः । तस्याश्रित्य तनुं विष्णुः सदा तिष्ठेच्छ्रिया सह
The wise person who wears a garland of amalaki fruits, which removes sin, is always accompanied by Vishnu and Shri, who dwell upon his body.
धात्रीकाष्ठस्य मालां च यो वहेन्मतिमान्नरः । तस्य देहं समाश्रित्य तिष्ठंति सर्वदेवताः
The intelligent man who wears a garland made from amalaki wood has all the deities residing upon his body.
धात्रीफलस्रजं गृह्णन्यत्कर्म कुरुते नरः । तत्सर्वमक्षयं प्रोक्तं शुभं वा यदि वाशुभम्
Whatever action a man performs while holding a garland of amalaki fruits, all of it is declared to be imperishable, whether auspicious or inauspicious.
यस्तु धात्रीफलं भुंक्ते मानवोऽखिलतत्ववित् । तद्देहाभ्यंतरस्थायि सर्वं पापं विनश्यति
He who eats the fruit of the dhātrī tree, knowing all the truths, all sin residing within his body is destroyed.
धात्रीफलमयीं मालां यो वहेद्दिवजसत्तम । ब्रवीमि शृणु माहात्म्यं सर्वपापहरं परम्
Whoever wears a garland made of dhātrī fruit, O best among twice-born, hear from me its greatness: it is supreme, removing all sin.
श्मशानेऽपि यदा मृत्युस्तस्य स्याद्दैवयोगतः । गङ्गामरणजं पुण्यं संप्राप्नोति न संशयः
Even if death comes to him in a cremation ground by fate, he certainly attains the merit of dying by the Ganges—there is no doubt.
तं दृष्ट्वा पापिनः सर्वे पापजालैः सुदारुणैः । सद्य एव प्रमुच्यंते जन्मकोटिशतैरपि
Seeing him, all sinners are instantly released from their dreadful nets of sin, even those from hundreds of millions of births.
