Those who give food depart satisfied; those who do not give food depart hungry. All the ancestors, fearful of hell, desire (these offerings).
A son who will go to Gaya will become our savior; many sons should be desired, if even one might go to Gaya.
One may perform the Ashvamedha sacrifice, or release a blue bull; one that is red in color, or one with a white tail-tip.
A bull is called blue if it is white in hooves and horns; the blue one with a pale tail, who draws water, is praised.
By that, the ancestors are satisfied for sixty thousand years; and as for the mud on the horn, the family is also uplifted.
His ancestors partake of the radiant Soma world; such was the case for kings Dilipa, Nriga, and Nahusha.
But for other kings, no one else attains this; the earth has been given by many kings, including Sagara and others.
Whenever land belongs to someone, at that time, the fruit is theirs; whether a Brahmin-slayer, a woman-killer, a child-killer, or one fallen.
The slayer of a hundred thousand cows—his sin is as great as one who seizes land, whether given by oneself or by another.
He, becoming a worm in excrement, is cooked together with his ancestors; but the giver of land dwells in heaven for sixty thousand years.
Both the one who strikes and the one who consents will go to hell for that time; there is no one else, whether virtuous or sinful, besides the giver and the taker of land.
They remain above and below until the dissolution of creation.
Gold is the first offspring of Agni, the earth is Vishnu's, and cows are the daughters of the Sun; whoever gives gold, a cow, and land attains endless reward.
He who receives land and he who gives land—both are doers of meritorious deeds, both destined for heaven.
Land taken unjustly, or seized by men, destroys the seventh generation of both takers and those who cause it to be taken.
He who seizes or holds land, whose mind is dull and covered in darkness, is bound by Varuna's nooses and is born among animals.
When the tears of those whose gifts are taken fall, and a Brahmin's land is seized, the lineage of three generations is destroyed.
Not even by giving a thousand wells and ponds, a hundred horse sacrifices, or ten million cows does the taker of land become purified.
All acts of sacrifice, charity, austerity, study, or any righteous deed are lost by the theft of even half a finger's breadth of land.
Whoever encroaches upon a cow-path, a village road, or a cremation ground goes to hell until the end of creation.
By lying about five maidens, one kills ten; by lying about cows, a hundred; by lying about horses, a thousand men are slain.
Speaking falsehood for gold destroys both the born and unborn; but by lying about land, all is destroyed—never speak falsehood about land.
One should not desire Brahmin property, even at the risk of one's life; what is burned by fire grows again, but what is burned by a Brahmin's curse does not.
What is burned by fire or by the sun grows again, and those killed by royal punishment are also restored, but those destroyed by a Brahmin's curse are truly lost.
The limbs nourished by Brahmin property repeatedly decay at the proper time, just as sand destroys austerity.
A man who seizes Brahmin property goes to Raurava hell; poison is not called poison—Brahmin property is called poison.
Brahmin property destroys even one alone, along with his sons and grandsons; a man can neutralize metallic or stone poison, but not this.
Who in the three worlds can neutralize Brahmin property? The happiness gained from Brahmin property, or the pleasure from divine wealth—
Such wealth leads to the destruction of one's lineage and self; Brahmin property and the killing of a Brahmin, and the wealth of the poor—
The wealth of a teacher, a friend, or gold, even if in heaven, afflicts; O Vasava, to a learned, noble, or poor Brahmin—
