and who is free from harming others—toward such a one I am always pleased; and one who carefully considers again and again before acting—
and who seeks the welfare of cows and Brahmins—toward such a one I am always pleased; and one who diligently upholds the words spoken by himself—
and who earnestly approaches those who have sought refuge—toward such a one I am always pleased; and who gives gifts to those who cannot repay, O best of Brahmins—
and whose mind is always fixed on me—toward such a one I am always pleased; thus, in brief, is the action by which I am pleased.
Now, O Brahmin, hear from me the action by which I am angered: one who delights in harming others, who is merciless toward all creatures—
I am always angry with such a one and treat him as an enemy; one who speaks falsely, is cruel, and slanders others—
one who destroys the works of poets—I treat him as an enemy; and one who, without reason, abandons his parents, wife, brother, or sister—
the fool who, out of delusion, abandons them—I treat him as an enemy; and the foolish man who rebukes his parents—
and who shows disrespect to his teacher, O Brahmin—I treat him as an enemy; those who cut down groves or destroy reservoirs—
and those who destroy villages—I treat them as enemies; and those who, upon seeing another's wife, fall into despair—
and those who listen to discussions of sin—toward them I am always angry; fools who hate their protector, or who seize the property of the helpless—
and those who betray trust—toward them I am always angry; those who kill cows for their strength, and those who are husbands of outcast women—
and those who cut down sacred fig trees—toward them I am always angry; and those who create division among Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva—
and those who are excessively attached to another's wife—toward them I am always angry; and those sinful men who, out of greed, eat on the eleventh day (Ekadashi)—
I am always angry with those who revile the Vedas, those who are devoted to wicked thoughts, and those who are inclined to betray friends.
I am always angry with those who cut down the dhatri tree, and with those who, overcome by desire, engage in intercourse during the day.
I am always angry with those who approach a menstruating woman, and with those who, out of delusion, go to a woman whose period has not been seen, O noble one.
Those who, being wicked, disturb someone engaged in a vow, bring enmity with me; and those who eat at night on the new moon or guest days.
I am always angry with those who eat two meals on a Sunday; and, O twice-born, those who do not abstain from meat, intercourse, or oil on the new moon day.
O best of Brahmins, I am always angry with those who do not give up these things; what more need be said? I will tell you briefly.
I am always angry with those who revile Vaishnavas. Vyasa said: Having spoken thus, Lord Vishnu suddenly became invisible.
And that Brahmin rose up, having abandoned sleep from his bed; by the words spoken by Keshava, that Brahmin became devoted to Hari.
Abandoning all other duties, he became engaged in the practice of ritual; even by eating the offering of Narayana, this is the fruit.
I do not know what result comes to a person who worships Hari; I will tell you briefly—listen, O noble Jaimini.
By worshipping Hari even once, one attains the supreme state; human birth is rare in this world, and worship of the wielder of the discus is rarer still.
O best of Brahmins, even among those, devotion is said to be exceedingly rare.
For the person whose mind desires to cross the ocean of worldly existence, filled with all sorrows, the noble one should always worship Vasudeva with devotion, for he is the doer of all actions.
Suta said: Hearing the fruit of Ekadashi, Jaimini was greatly pleased; with joined palms, he spoke these words to the lord Krishna Dvaipayana.
Jaimini said: By your grace I have heard of the greatness of Vishnu, the god; tell me now the greatness of Tulasi, which destroys sin for those who listen.
Vyasa said: O Brahmin, Tulasi, the blessed one, is always served by all the gods, including Indra and the others; she grants the fruits of the four aims of life.
