There, his son was born, named Sagara, O twice-born; he grew up in the holy hermitage, guarded by Bhargava.
All rites such as the sacred thread were performed for the Kshatriya then; likewise, he practiced weapons and studied the Vedas.

Then, having obtained the fire weapon from Bhargava, King Sagara went forth and slew the Talajanghas and the Haihayas.
He, of great austerity, also slew the Shakas and the Paradas. Narada said: Tell in detail, O Shankara, the greatness of Sagara.
Mahadeva said: The great king of the solar dynasty, renowned and mighty, O dear one, lost his kingdom in Gara's calamity.
By the Haihayas, Talajanghas, Shakas, along with the Yavanas, Paradas, Kambojas, and Pahlavas, O Narada—
These five groups, O Brahman, acted for the sake of the Haihayas; thus, the king Sagara, deprived of his kingdom, went to the forest.
Followed by his wife, sorrowful, he abandoned his life; his wife, virtuous and pregnant, was devoted to vows.
Bhārgava, desiring a son, had previously chosen the co-wife; but she, having performed her husband's funeral rites, wept for him in the forest.
Aurva, restraining her, O Nārada, informed the wife of the deceased about that son—righteous, virtuous, and beloved.
After the child was announced, she refrained from dying; then, when two months had passed, the child grew up in Aurva's hermitage.
The rites beginning with birth ceremony, and all such rituals, were performed by Aurva; all the ceremonies like the investiture with the sacred thread were conducted for the great sage.
There, all the Vedas and related texts were recited through Aurva's instruction; after teaching the Vedic scriptures, he imparted the knowledge of weapons.
He received the Agneya weapon, O illustrious one, which even the immortals find difficult to withstand; thus he was endowed with both vital strength and martial power.
Angered, he swiftly slew the Haihayas and others with his own strength; and in the world, he attained fame.
Then the Śakas, along with the Yavanas, the Kāmbojas, and the Pallavas, being slain at that time, sought refuge with Vasiṣṭha.
Vasiṣṭha, radiant in splendor, made them agree by a pact; and the king Sagara restrained them, granting them safety.
Sagara, hearing his guru's words and recalling his own vow, slew them according to dharma, and caused their transformation.
He made the Śakas half-shaven-headed and released them; he shaved the heads of the Yavanas and likewise the Kāmbojas.
The Pāradas became shaven-headed, the Pallavas kept beards; thus, having conquered all, he established the collection of dharma.
The king, victorious over all dharmas, having conquered this earth, quickly prepared for the horse sacrifice.
As he was conducting the rite, his horse was taken away near the eastern and southern ocean shore, and entered the earth.
Then, with his sons, he dug everywhere in that region; but even as the great ocean was being excavated, they did not find the horse.
There, eager, they saw a primordial person; that primordial deity was Kapila, lord of the worlds.
His gaze, awakened by fire, arose; sixty thousand were burned, and only four remained.
Hṛṣīketu, Suketu, Dharmaratha, Śūra, and Paṃcajana—these were the progenitors of his lineage, O twice-born.
Then the Blessed Lord Hari himself granted him five boons: release for his lineage, liberation, renowned fame, the ocean, and a son, O mighty one.
By that act, he attained the state of the ocean; from the ocean, he obtained the horse for the Ashvamedha sacrifice; and that illustrious one performed a hundred Ashvamedha sacrifices.
Narada said: How were the sons of Sagara, the mighty and valiant ones, born? Sixty thousand in number, O Lord of wisdom—please tell me that.

The blessed Lord Parvati’s consort said: Sagara had two wives, whose sins were burned away by austerity; the eminent sage Aurva, pleased with them, granted them a boon.
