After a long time, Jalandhara recovered from his faint; seeing his army destroyed and scattered in battle, he was filled with fear.
Then he remembered Kavi, his supreme teacher, in his mind; being remembered, the sage quickly came to Jalandhara.
Having offered blessings, Bhārgava then spoke to the son of the ocean: 'What shall I do, O mighty king? What is your wish?'
Nārada said: Hearing these words of Kāvya, and honoring Bhārgava greatly, King Jālandhara bowed to his guru and spoke.
The king said: 'Shukra, revive all these dead Daityas everywhere.' Thus addressed by the son of the ocean, Shukra surveyed the army on the battlefield.
There, O king, the ground was covered, for a stretch of twenty-five thousand yojanas, with Daityas, chariots, and limbs, piled one upon another.
On that field, which extended for ninety-five yojanas, the earth was filled with the bodies of warriors, vehicles, and animals, like a funeral pyre.
Sprinkling them with water empowered by mantras, Kavi revived the Daityas, just as Rudra was binding his matted locks tightly with serpents.
At that very moment, by Kavi's mantra, the army was revived, O king—like tigers by a lion, elephants by a leader, or boars by their kind.
Seeing the Dānavas return, Śaṅkara pondered: 'What is this that has happened here? Who is reviving the dead?'
While thinking thus, Bhava saw Kāvya in that battle, reviving the Daityas, who then rushed forward with even greater speed.
Then, enraged, Mahādeva resolved to kill Shukra; but Kavi, having perceived this, spoke to him privately after gaining the Trident-bearer's attention.
'I am a Brāhmaṇa—how can you kill one skilled in all knowledge? O Rudra, if you slay me, the sin of Brahmin-killing will fall upon you.'
Hearing these words of Kavi, Śaṅkara set aside his trident, recalling the previous incident when Brahmā's head had become attached to him.
'A Brāhmaṇa must not be slain, even if he takes the lives of those most dear; but since he is reviving the Daityas, I must restrain him by any means.'
'Therefore, I will quickly cast him into a woman's womb, along with the life of the Daityas.' As Śambhu spoke thus, from his third eye, swiftly—
A fierce Krityā emerged, with loose hair and a huge belly, with large, hanging breasts, a terrifying womb, and dreadful fangs and eyes.
Command me!' she said, and Śiva replied to her: 'O Krityā, cast the Daitya preceptor, that wicked-minded one, into your womb.'
'Until I slay Jālandhara, carry him in your womb; when the Daitya Jālandhara is killed, then release him afterwards.'
Thus commanded by Hara, Krityā rushed at Bhārgava; seeing her fall to the ground, Kavi and the Daityas fled in fear.
Seizing him by the hair, shaking him, naked, she embraced Bhārgava; laughing, that witch placed him in her womb, O delight of the victorious.
Seeing the guru cast into her vulva, as long as Jālandhara, the demon, watched, she remained visible as the witch, ready with arrows.
Śrī Nārada said: Then Jālandhara spoke, protecting himself, to Śiva: 'Now, O Śiva, I will swiftly hurl you to where Madhusūdana dwells.'
'Afterwards, dragging Brahmā, I will cast him into the ocean; when you all are subdued, then indeed I am the Lord of all.'
Having spoken thus, he entrusted his army to Śumbha, the demon, and others; with warriors like Niśumbha, he protected the fourfold host.
Śumbha, Niśumbha, Pheṃkāra, Pheruṃḍa, Dhūmralocana, Ketu, Biḍālajaṃgha, Rāhu, Durvāraṇa, and Yama—
Kālāsura, Lavaṇa, Bhūmiretas, Andhakāsura, Raktavīrya, Caṇḍī, Cāmuṇḍī, and the foremost of the Daityas—
Seeing all these mighty Daitya leaders arrayed for battle, O King, Vīrabhadra and the other hosts wailed in the fight.
Then there arose a fierce, tumultuous, hair-raising battle, where the Daityas, wounded and suffering, were the first to fall.
Then, by the Daityas led by Śumbha and others, with all weapons in the great conflict, some of the hosts were slain, others fled, O King.
