All those great demons mounted their chariots, armed with every weapon, and attacked the Lord of Vaikuṇṭha, roaring with terrifying cries.

Then, the enemy of the demons, enraged and in a fearsome form, struck them all down in battle, as the wind scatters heaps of leaves.
Then Śailaromā, the demon, rushed at Viṣṇu in anger; even Hari’s arrows, shot at him, fell away from his body.

When the demon’s head was cut off, the headless trunk, still fighting in battle, seized Garuḍa by the wings with both arms.
The head, leaping up with force, clung tightly to Garuḍa’s shoulders; then, in that contest, Hṛṣīkeśa himself was astonished.
Seeing the head attached, Garuḍa fell to the ground; then, rising swiftly, he again took his place at the head’s location.
Then Śailaromā, powerful, seized Viṣṇu from Garuḍa; but Hari struck him swiftly with his palm, and as his life departed, he fell to the earth.
Then Jālandhara said to his charioteer, Khaḍgaroman: ‘Bring the chariot there, where the god Janārdana is.’
At Jālandhara’s command, Khaṅgaroman brought the chariot; seeing Viṣṇu before him, the son of Arṇava spoke.
Strike me without hesitation, O Vishnu; I will not strike you, O Madhava. Hearing these words, his eyes reddened with anger.
Narayana filled him with arrows that take away life; and the powerful son of the ocean was wounded by Vishnu.
He filled Hari with a continuous stream of arrows; Narayana filled him with arrows that take away life.
Seeing Garuda fallen to the ground by the arrows of the ocean's son, Janardana, dwelling in Vaikuntha, recalled his chariot.
His chariot arrived, drawn by horses but without a charioteer; seeing the chariot yoked with horses, the Blessed One was amazed in battle.
After reviving Garuda, he appointed him as charioteer; he placed the crown on his head and the Kaustubha gem on his heart.
Making the horses embodiments of human purpose, Hari went toward Jalandhara, tearing the earth with the chariot wheels, accompanied by the gods.
He struck down the army of the demons with arrows swiftly; Vītihotra, instructed by the king of the gods, fought in the battlefield.
He burned the demon troops, joined with the wind; at that time, the Blessed One spoke to the demon army along with the gods.
Jalandhara, seeing his own force reduced to a small remnant, then spoke to Bhargava, 'My army has been destroyed by the gods.'
While you remain, knower of mantras, you are renowned for your knowledge; what use is that knowledge, O Brahman, or even power and strength?
That which does not protect those afflicted by disease, or those who have sought refuge, what is the use of such strength? Hearing Jalandhara's words, Bhargava spoke to him.
See, O king, my strength as a Brahmin in the battlefield. Having said this, he touched them with water and awakened them with a shout.
Those revived by the sage rose up, and with showers of arrows that take away life, struck down by the gods in battle, they fell together with the ocean's son.
Their bodies were shattered by arrows, yet they held onto life, O king; they did not die, for they were immortal, though pierced by arrows, O noble one.

Dhiṣaṇa quickly spoke to the Lord of the universe: 'Master, I will revive the immortals with herbs.'
Having said this, Dhiṣaṇa went to the place where the milk ocean is; then, going to Mount Drona, he himself happily gathered the herbs.
By his yogic power, their teacher revived the immortals; then, having arisen, the gods struck down the army of the Dānavas.
