Meditating on that form, adorned with all ornaments and endowed with jewels and other virtues, one should hold it in the mind and, by its pervasion, fill the body.
By that radiance, the sin residing in the body is destroyed, just as gold, when touched by mercury, or red becomes white.
One should conceive a pure seat, either with twelve, eight, or fifteen petals, and there establish the liṅga.
One should contemplate Maheśāna, who dwells in the cave, within the liṅga; and in a purified vessel, place purified water scented with fragrance.
Placing fragrant flowers, consecrated with the praṇava, one should perform; but praṇāyāma and praṇava are not prescribed for Śūdras.
At the stage of praṇāyāma, meditation is performed, and the mantra 'Śiva' or 'Oṃ' is uttered; the substances for worship, such as fragrance, flowers, and rice, are also prepared.
Placing those items nearby, one should then make the resolve: 'I will perform the worship of Śiva for the sake of pleasing Śiva.'
Having made this resolve, one should then perform the invocation and related rites, and after completing up to the bathing, then arrange the bath.
With the mantra beginning with 'namas', according to the procedure of the Śatarudriya, the uninterrupted stream is called the stream of liberation.
He who bathes (the liṅga) for a month with that stream, reciting the Rudra either silently or aloud, once, three, five, seven, or nine times,
or even eleven times, or with eleven repetitions, this is to be known as the bath of liberation, bestowing liberation in a month.
Bathing with the Śaiva vidyā alone, or with the praṇava, using clay, coconut shell fragments, or with waves,

with bronze, with pearls, with enjoyment, or with flowers and other substances as available, one should bathe the Lord of gods as prescribed.
Now I will describe the procedure for the horn, suitable for bathing; first, the inside should be purified, then the outside should be cleansed.
Making it very smooth and light, one should carefully cut the horn; placing it in a suitable spot, in a well-shaped trough or vessel.
With a bundle of kuśa grass, one should prepare the bath for the deity; thus is described the water-form of the ox's horn.
At the opening, half of forbidden metal is avoided; with a jointed opening, one should fashion a spout like a serpent's staff, in the form of a serpent.
At the fruit-end, a small cup is placed, with a hole for the staff; there, water kept in an upper mechanical pot should be poured.
One should pour it with another vessel or with the left hand; by making a stream of liberation in this way, it becomes a purifier that destroys sin.
In this way, after establishing the Lord of gods, one should bathe Him with pañcagavya, then with pañcāmṛta, and then with the three sweet substances.
After adorning the deity with ornaments, one should again bathe Maheśvara, then offer cooling treatments, and thereafter perform ācāmana and related rites.
Then one should offer cloth, a sacred thread, the five kinds of fragrant substances, as well as camphor, maruvā, and pāṭīra, or whichever is available.
One may worship the Śivaliṅga with both mixed together, or with a seat entirely filled with fragrance, or according to one’s means and resources.
Then, in silence or with proper rites, one should offer kāliya flowers, śrīpatra, maru, cityā, and all else according to one’s ability.
One should offer various kinds of incense, or only guggulu, and incense mixed with the ghee of a tawny cow is praised as the best of all.
Having offered incense as able, and lamps fueled with the ghee of a tawny cow, or at least with clarified butter, one should present the lamps as offerings.
Having given what is fitting and within one’s means, along with flowers, one should then offer mouth purification and respectfully present tāmbūla.
Circumambulation and prostration complete the worship; afterwards, I will explain to you the fivefold musical offering.
Singing, instrumental music, recitation of Purāṇas, dance, and words of joy, as well as waving of lights, offering of flowers, and the gesture of complete dedication.
Forgiveness and dismissal, as well as praise, are also considered services, along with adornment, umbrella, fly-whisk, and fan.
