अर्घं दद्यात्प्रयत्नेन सूर्य्यनामानुकीर्त्तनैः । नमस्ते विष्णुरूपाय नमस्ते ब्रह्मरूपिणे
One should carefully offer arghya, reciting the names of the Sun; Salutations to the one who is the form of Viṣṇu, salutations to the one who is the form of Brahmā.
सहस्ररश्मये सूर्य नमस्ते सर्वतेजसे । नमस्ते रुद्रवपुषे नमस्ते भक्तवत्सल
Salutations to the Sun, of a thousand rays, salutations to the one of all brilliance; salutations to the one who is the form of Rudra, salutations to the one who cherishes devotees.
पद्मनाभ नमस्तेऽस्तु कुंडलांगदभूषित । नमस्ते सर्वलोकेश सुप्तानामुपबोधन
O Padmanabha, salutations to you, adorned with earrings and armlets; salutations to you, Lord of all worlds, who awakens those who are asleep.
सुकृतं दुष्कृतं चैव सर्वं पश्यसि सर्वदा । सत्यदेव नमस्तेऽस्तु प्रसीद मम भास्कर
You always see all good and evil deeds; O Lord of Truth, salutations to you—be gracious to me, O Bhaskara.
दिवाकर नमस्तेस्तु प्रभाकर नमोस्तु ते । एवं सूर्यं नमस्कृत्य सप्त कृत्वा प्रदक्षिणम्
O Divakara, salutations to you; O Prabhakara, salutations to you; thus, having saluted the Sun and circumambulated him seven times—
द्विजं गां कांचनं स्पृष्ट्वा पश्चाच्च स्वगृहं व्रजेत् । आश्रमस्थांस्ततः पूज्य प्रतिमां चापि पूजयेत्
One should touch a Brahmin, a cow, and gold, and then return to one's own house; thereafter, one should worship the image established in the hermitage.
पूर्वं भक्त्यैव गोविंदं गृही च नियतात्मवान् । पूजयेद्भक्तितो राजन्नुभयत्र यथाविधि
First, with devotion, a householder of self-control should worship Govinda with devotion, O King, in both places according to the prescribed rule.
विशेषादपि वैशाखे योऽर्चयेन्मधुसूदनम् । सर्वं संवत्सरं यावदर्चितस्तेन माधवः
Especially in the month of Vaishakha, whoever worships Madhusudana, Madhava is worshipped by him for the entire year.
माधवे मासि संप्राप्ते मेषस्थे कर्मसाक्षिणि । केशवप्रीतये कुर्यात्केशवव्रतसंचयम्
When the month of Madhava arrives, with the Sun in Aries, the witness of actions, one should perform the observances of Keshava for the pleasure of Keshava.
दद्यादनेकदानानि तिलाज्यप्रभृतीन्यपि । जन्मकोटिसमुद्भूत पातकांतकराणि च
One should give many gifts, including sesame and ghee, which destroy sins accumulated over millions of births.
जलान्नशर्कराधेनुतिलधेनुमुखानि च । वित्तमानेन देयानि दानानीप्सितसिद्धये
Gifts of water, food, sugar, cows, sesame, and cows again, as well as wealth, should be given according to one's means for the attainment of desired results.
वैशाखं सकलं मासं नित्यस्नायी जितेंद्रियः । जपन्हविष्यं भुंजानः सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
Throughout the entire month of Vaishakha, one who bathes daily, controls the senses, and eats sacrificial food while reciting mantras is freed from all sins.
एकभुक्तमथो नक्तमयाचितमतंद्रितः । माधवे मासि यः कुर्याल्लभते सर्वमीप्सितम्
Whoever, in the month of Madhava, eats only once, at night, without asking, and remains diligent, attains all that is desired.
वैशाखे विधिना स्नानद्वयं नद्यादिके बहिः । हविष्यं ब्रह्मचर्यं च भूशय्या नियमस्थितिः
In Vaishakha, one should bathe twice daily in a river or similar place, eat sacrificial food, observe celibacy, sleep on the ground, and remain steadfast in discipline.
व्रतं दानं जपो होमो मधुसूदनपूजनम् । अपि जन्मसहस्रोत्थं पापं दहति दारुणम्
Vow, charity, recitation, fire offering, and worship of Madhusudana—even the terrible sin arising from a thousand births is burned away by these.
यथैव माधवो ध्यातो विनाशयति किल्बिषम् । तथैव माधवे स्नानं नियमेन विनिर्मितम्
Just as meditation on Madhava destroys sin, so too does bathing in the month of Madhava, performed with discipline.
तीर्थे चानुदिनं स्नानं तिलैश्च पितृतर्पणम् । दानं धर्मघटादीनां मधुसूदनपूजनम्
Daily bathing at a sacred place, offering sesame water to the ancestors, giving gifts such as dharmaghata vessels, and worship of Madhusudana—
माधवे मासि कुर्वीत मधुसूदनतुष्टिदम् । तिलोदकसुवर्णान्न शर्करांबरभूषणम्
In the month of Madhava, one should perform acts pleasing to Madhusudana: gifts of sesame water, gold, food, sugar, garments, and ornaments.
पादत्राणातपत्रांबु कुंभान्दद्याद्द्विजातिषु । त्रिसंध्यं पूजयेदीशं भक्तितो मधुसूदनम्
One should give footwear, umbrellas, water pots, and pitchers to Brahmins; at the three sandhyas, worship the Lord Madhusudana with devotion.
साक्षाद्विमलया लक्ष्म्या समुपेतं समाहितः । सुवर्णतिलपात्रैश्च ब्राह्मणाञ्छक्तितो बहून्
With a concentrated mind, accompanied by pure Lakshmi herself, one should give to many Brahmins, as able, vessels of gold and sesame.
तर्पयेदुदपात्रैर्यो ब्रह्महत्यां व्यपोहति । वैशाखे मासि यः स्नात्वा प्रातर्नद्यां समाहितः
He who, having bathed with focused mind in a river in the month of Vaiśākha at dawn, offers libations with water vessels, removes the sin of killing a brāhmaṇa.
पूजयित्वा हरिं भक्त्या पुष्पैः कालोद्भवैः फलैः । पूजयेद्ब्राह्मणं शक्त्या पाखंडालापवर्जितः
Having worshipped Hari with devotion, with flowers and fruits appropriate to the season, he should also worship a brāhmaṇa to the best of his ability, avoiding those who are heretical.
तर्पयेद्वस्त्रगोदानै रत्नाद्यैर्धनसंचयैः । अन्यद्वित्तं यथाशक्ति स्तोकं स्तोकं समाचरेत्
He should satisfy (the worthy) with gifts of clothing, cows, jewels, and other accumulated wealth; and, according to his capacity, he should give a little of whatever other wealth he possesses.
पश्चाद्विनिःस्वः पुरुषो माधवे मासि माधवम् । पुष्पार्चनविधानेन पूजयेन्मधुसूदनम्
Afterwards, even if he has become destitute, in the month of Mādhava, he should worship Madhusūdana with the prescribed method of offering flowers.
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तः पितॄणां तारयेच्छतम् । सजन्मशतसाहस्रं न शोकफलभाग्भवेत्
Freed from all sins, he delivers a hundred ancestors; for a hundred thousand births, he will not experience the fruit of sorrow.
न च व्याधिभयं तस्य न दारिद्र्यं न बंधनम् । स विष्णुभक्तो जायेत धन्यो जन्मनिजन्मनि
He will have no fear of disease, no poverty, no bondage; he is born as a devotee of Viṣṇu, blessed in every birth.
यावद्युगसहस्राणि शतमष्टोत्तरं भवेत् । तावत्स्वर्गे वसेद्वीर भूपतिश्च पुनर्भवेत्
For as many as one hundred and eight thousand yugas, O hero, he dwells in heaven, and again becomes a king on earth.
भूपतेर्विविधान्भोगान्भुक्त्वा चैव यथासुखम् । माधवस्य प्रसादेन माधवे लीयते ततः
Having enjoyed various pleasures of kingship as he wishes, by the grace of Mādhava, he is then absorbed into Mādhava.
शृणु राजन्प्रवक्ष्यामि समासान्माधवार्चनम् । वैदिकं तांत्रिकं वापि मिश्रकं पापनाशनम्
Hear, O king, I will now briefly describe the worship of Mādhava, whether Vedic, Tantric, or mixed, which destroys sin.
नह्यंतोऽनंतपारस्य नांतः पूजाविधेर्नृप । अथ संक्षिप्य चोच्येत यथावदनुपूर्वशः
There is truly no end to the worship of the infinite, boundless Lord, nor to the rituals of worship, O king; but now it will be concisely stated in proper sequence.
