भवेत्संनिहिता तत्र गंगा त्रिपथगामिनी । सप्तवाराभि जप्तेन करसंपुटयोजिते
There, the Ganges, the traverser of three paths, becomes present; by reciting seven times with hands joined in reverence.
मूर्ध्नि कृत्वा जलं भूपश्चतुर्वा पंच सप्त वा । स्नानं कृत्वा मृदा तद्वदामंत्र्य तु विधानतः
Placing water on the head, O king, four, five, or seven times, having bathed with earth accordingly, one should recite as prescribed.
अश्वक्रांते रथक्रांते विष्णुक्रांते वसुंधरे । मृत्तिके हर मे पापं यन्मया दुष्कृतं कृतम्
O earth, trodden by horses, by chariots, by Viṣṇu, O soil, remove my sin, whatever evil I have committed.
उद्धृतासि वराहेण विष्णुना शतबाहुना । नमस्ते सर्वलोकानां प्रभवारणि सुव्रते
You were lifted by Viṣṇu in the form of a boar, with a hundred arms; I bow to you, O virtuous one, origin of all worlds, O remover of obstacles.
एवं स्नात्वा ततः पश्चादाचम्य तु विधानतः । उत्थाय वाससी शुक्ले शुद्धे तु परिधापयेत्
Having bathed in this manner, then afterwards, performing ācamana according to the prescribed method, one should rise and put on clean, white garments.
ततस्तु तर्प्पणं कुर्य्यात्त्रैलोक्याप्यायनाय वै । ब्रह्माणं तर्प्पयेत्पूर्वं विष्णुं रुद्रं प्रजापतिम्
Then one should perform the offering of water for the nourishment of the three worlds, first offering to Brahmā, then to Viṣṇu, Rudra, and Prajāpati.
देवान्यक्षांस्तथा नागान्गंधर्वाप्सरसोसुरान् । क्रूरान्सर्पान्सुपर्णांश्च तरून्वै जंतुकान्खगान्
One should offer to the gods, yakṣas, nāgas, gandharvas, apsarases, asuras, fierce serpents, garuḍas, trees, living beings, and birds.
विद्याधराञ्जलधरांस्तथैवाकाशगामिनः । निराधाराश्च ये जीवाः पापकर्मरताश्च ये
To the vidyādharas, jaladharas, those who move in the sky, and to all beings without support, and those devoted to sinful deeds.
तेषामाप्यायनार्थाय दीयते सलिलं मया । कृतोपवीती देवेषु निवीती च भवेन्नरः
For their nourishment, water is given by me; having performed the upavīta among the gods, a man becomes nivīta.
मनुष्यांस्तर्प्पयेद्भक्त्या ब्रह्मपुत्रानृषींस्तथा । सनकः सनंदनश्चैव तृतीयश्च सनातनः
One should offer to humans with devotion, and also to the sons of Brahmā, the sages: Sanaka, Sanandana, and the third, Sanātana.
कपिलश्चासुरिश्चैव वोढुः पंचशिखस्तथा । ते सर्वे तृप्तिमायांतु मद्दत्तेनांबुना सदा
Kapila, Asuri, Voḍhu, and Pañcaśikha as well; may all these always attain satisfaction from the water given by me.
मरीचिमत्र्यंगिरसौ पुलस्त्यं पुलहं क्रतुम् । प्रचेतसं वसिष्ठं च भृगुं नारदमेव च
Marīci, Atri, Aṅgiras, Pulastya, Pulaha, Kratu, Pracetas, Vasiṣṭha, Bhṛgu, and also Nārada.
देवब्रह्मऋषीन्सर्वांस्तर्पयेदक्षतोदकैः । अपसव्यं ततः कुर्यात्सव्यं जान्वाच्य भूतले
One should offer to all divine sages and brahmarṣis with unbroken water; then perform the offering with the left hand, and afterwards with the right, keeping the knee on the ground.
अग्निष्वात्तास्तथा सौम्या हविष्मंतस्तथोष्मपाः । कव्यानलान्बर्हिषदस्तथा वै चाज्यपाः पुनः
To the Agniṣvāttas, Saumyas, Haviṣmants, Uṣmapās, Kavyānalas, Barhiṣads, and again to those who drink clarified butter.
संतर्पयेत्पितॄन्भक्त्या सतिलोदकचंदनैः । यमाय धर्मराजाय मृत्यवे चांतकाय च
One should satisfy the ancestors with devotion, using water mixed with sesame and sandalwood; to Yama, Dharmarāja, Mṛtyu, and Antaka.
वैवस्वताय कालाय सर्वभूतक्षयाय च । उदुंबराय दध्नाय नीलाय परमेष्ठिने
To Vaivasvata, Kāla, the destroyer of all beings, Uduṃbara, Dadhna, Nīla, and Parameṣṭhin.
वृकोदराय चित्राय चित्रगुप्ताय वै नमः । दर्भपाणिस्तु विधिवत्पितॄन्संतर्पयेत्ततः
To Vṛkodara, Citrā, Citragupta, I offer salutations; then, holding darbha grass as prescribed, one should satisfy the ancestors.
पित्रादीन्नामगोत्रेण तथा मातामहानपि । संतर्प्य विधिना सर्वानिमं मंत्रमुदीरयेत्
One should satisfy the ancestors and maternal grandfathers by name and lineage, and having satisfied all according to the procedure, recite this mantra.
ये बांधवा बांधवा ये येऽन्यजन्मनि बांधवाः । ते तृप्तिमखिलां यांतु येऽस्मत्तस्तोयकांक्षिणः
Those relatives who are relatives, and those who were relatives in other births, may they all attain complete satisfaction, those who desire water from us.
आचम्य विधिवत्सम्यगालिखेत्पद्ममग्रतः । साक्षतैश्च सपुष्पैश्च सलिलारुणचंदनैः
Having performed ācamana properly, one should draw a lotus in front, with unbroken rice, flowers, water, and red sandalwood.
अर्घं दद्यात्प्रयत्नेन सूर्य्यनामानुकीर्त्तनैः । नमस्ते विष्णुरूपाय नमस्ते ब्रह्मरूपिणे
One should carefully offer arghya, reciting the names of the Sun; Salutations to the one who is the form of Viṣṇu, salutations to the one who is the form of Brahmā.
सहस्ररश्मये सूर्य नमस्ते सर्वतेजसे । नमस्ते रुद्रवपुषे नमस्ते भक्तवत्सल
Salutations to the Sun, of a thousand rays, salutations to the one of all brilliance; salutations to the one who is the form of Rudra, salutations to the one who cherishes devotees.
पद्मनाभ नमस्तेऽस्तु कुंडलांगदभूषित । नमस्ते सर्वलोकेश सुप्तानामुपबोधन
O Padmanabha, salutations to you, adorned with earrings and armlets; salutations to you, Lord of all worlds, who awakens those who are asleep.
सुकृतं दुष्कृतं चैव सर्वं पश्यसि सर्वदा । सत्यदेव नमस्तेऽस्तु प्रसीद मम भास्कर
You always see all good and evil deeds; O Lord of Truth, salutations to you—be gracious to me, O Bhaskara.
दिवाकर नमस्तेस्तु प्रभाकर नमोस्तु ते । एवं सूर्यं नमस्कृत्य सप्त कृत्वा प्रदक्षिणम्
O Divakara, salutations to you; O Prabhakara, salutations to you; thus, having saluted the Sun and circumambulated him seven times—
द्विजं गां कांचनं स्पृष्ट्वा पश्चाच्च स्वगृहं व्रजेत् । आश्रमस्थांस्ततः पूज्य प्रतिमां चापि पूजयेत्
One should touch a Brahmin, a cow, and gold, and then return to one's own house; thereafter, one should worship the image established in the hermitage.
पूर्वं भक्त्यैव गोविंदं गृही च नियतात्मवान् । पूजयेद्भक्तितो राजन्नुभयत्र यथाविधि
First, with devotion, a householder of self-control should worship Govinda with devotion, O King, in both places according to the prescribed rule.
विशेषादपि वैशाखे योऽर्चयेन्मधुसूदनम् । सर्वं संवत्सरं यावदर्चितस्तेन माधवः
Especially in the month of Vaishakha, whoever worships Madhusudana, Madhava is worshipped by him for the entire year.
माधवे मासि संप्राप्ते मेषस्थे कर्मसाक्षिणि । केशवप्रीतये कुर्यात्केशवव्रतसंचयम्
When the month of Madhava arrives, with the Sun in Aries, the witness of actions, one should perform the observances of Keshava for the pleasure of Keshava.
दद्यादनेकदानानि तिलाज्यप्रभृतीन्यपि । जन्मकोटिसमुद्भूत पातकांतकराणि च
One should give many gifts, including sesame and ghee, which destroy sins accumulated over millions of births.
