यः स्मरेद्गोपकन्याभिः क्रीडंतं गोव्रजे शुभे । सर्वकामानवाप्नोति सौभाग्यं चैव विंदति
Whoever remembers Him playing with the cowherd maidens in the auspicious cow-village attains all desires and finds good fortune.
महोपसर्गरोगाद्यैर्युक्तो यस्तु सनातनम् । जेतारं च महारौद्रीं कृत्यां काशीपुरे स्थिताम्
One afflicted by great calamities or diseases, who remembers the Eternal One and the fierce slayer, the terrible Kritya residing in Kashi, is freed.
किमत्र बहुनोक्तेन सर्वकालेषु चाप्सु भे । कृष्णाय नम इत्येवं मंत्रमुच्चारयेद्बुधः
Why speak at length? At all times and in all waters, the wise should simply recite the mantra: 'Salutations to Krishna.'
कृष्णाय वासुदेवाय हरये परमात्मने । प्रणतः क्लेशनाशाय गोविंदाय नमोनमः
Salutations to Krishna, son of Vasudeva, to Hari, the Supreme Self; I bow again and again to Govinda, who destroys all suffering for those who take refuge.
इमं मंत्रं जपन्देवि भक्त्या प्रतिदिनं नरः । सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो विष्णुलोकमवाप्नुयात्
A person who recites this mantra every day with devotion, O goddess, becomes free from all sins and attains the world of Vishnu.
सर्वेषामेव देवानामीश्वरोऽसौ जनार्दनः । रक्षणाय च लोकानामवस्थांतरमेति वै
Janardana is the Lord of all the gods; for the protection of the worlds, He assumes different forms.
त्रिपुरं हंतुकामेन मया संपूजितो हरिः । बुद्धरूपधरः श्रीमान्मोहयामास तद्रिपून्
Desiring to destroy Tripura, I worshipped Hari, who, taking the form of Buddha, deluded those enemies.
मोहितास्तेन शास्त्रेण सर्वधर्मविवर्जिताः । नारायणास्त्रेण मया निहता देवशत्रवः
Deluded by that teaching, deprived of all dharma, those enemies of the gods were slain by me with the weapon of Narayana.
अवतीर्य कलावंते ब्राह्मणस्य निवेशने । हनिष्यति तथा रौद्रान्म्लेच्छान्सर्वाञ्जनार्दनः
At the end of the age, Janardana will descend into the house of a Brahmin and will destroy the fierce mlecchas.
तैस्तैर्भावैर्मयावस्थाः सर्वाः प्रोक्ता जगत्पतेः । किमन्यच्छ्रोतुकामासि तद्ब्रवीमि शुभानने
All these forms of the Lord of the world have been described by me according to their various natures. What else do you wish to hear, O auspicious one? Tell me.
इति श्रीपाद्मे महापुराणे पंचपंचाशत्साहस्र्यां संहितायामुत्तरखंडे। उमामहेश्वरसंवादे श्रीकृष्णचरिते श्रीकृष्णस्वधामगमननिरूपणंनाम द्विपंचाशदधिकद्विशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the two hundred and fifty-second chapter, entitled 'The Account of Krishna's Departure to His Own Abode,' in the dialogue of Uma and Maheshvara, in the Uttarakanda of the glorious Padma Mahapurana, comprising fifty-five thousand verses.
जैमिनिरुवाच- क्रियायोगस्य तत्वं मे ब्रूहि व्यास महामते । क्रियायोगमहं ज्ञातुमिच्छामि भवदग्रतः
Jaimini said: O Vyasa, great-minded one, tell me the true nature of Kriyayoga. I wish to know Kriyayoga from you.
व्यास उवाच- शरीरं मानुषं विप्र दुर्लभं चात्र भूतले । धीरः शरीरमासाद्य मोक्षार्थं योगमभ्यसेत्
Vyasa said: O Brahmin, the human body is rare in this world. Having obtained a body, the wise should practice yoga for the sake of liberation.
क्रियायोगध्यानयोगावुभौ योगौ प्रकीर्तितौ । तयोराद्यः क्रियायोगः कुर्वतां सर्वकामदः
Kriyayoga and Dhyana-yoga are both called yogas; of these, Kriyayoga is the first and grants all desires to those who practice it.
गङ्गा श्रीर्विष्णुपूजा च दानानि द्विजसत्तम । ब्राह्मणानां तथा भक्तिर्भक्तिरेकादशी व्रते
O best of twice-born, bathing in the Ganga, worship of Vishnu, acts of charity, devotion to Brahmins, and the observance of Ekadashi—
धात्री तुलस्योर्भक्तिश्च तथा चातिथिपूजनम् । क्रियायोगाङ्गभूतानि प्रोक्तानीति समासतः
Devotion to the amalaki and tulasi, as well as honoring guests—these are briefly said to be the limbs of Kriyayoga.
क्रियायोगादृते विप्र ध्यानयोगेन सिद्ध्यति । क्रियायोगरतो याति तद्विष्णोः परमं पदम्
O Brahmin, except through the discipline of action, perfection is attained by the discipline of meditation; one devoted to the discipline of action reaches that supreme abode of Vishnu.
जैमिनिरुवाच- क्रियायोगाङ्गभूतानि यानि प्रोक्तानि भोः प्रभो । तन्माहात्म्यानि कथय यदि भो मय्यनुग्रहः
Jaimini said: O Lord, whatever limbs of the discipline of action have been taught, please describe their greatness, if you are gracious to me.
गङ्गायाः के गुणा ब्रह्मन्विष्णुपूजाफलं च किम् । श्रेष्ठानि कानि दानानि का वा भक्तिर्द्विजन्मनाम्
O Brahmin, what are the virtues of the Ganga? What is the fruit of worshipping Vishnu? Which gifts are the best, and what is the devotion of twice-born men?
एकादश्याः फलं किंवा धात्रीभक्तिश्च कीदृशी । तुलस्याः कीदृशी भक्तिः किं वा चातिथिपूजनम्
What is the fruit of the eleventh day, and what kind of devotion is there to the dhatri tree? What is the devotion to Tulasi, and what is the worship of guests?
एतत्सर्वं मुने ब्रूहि श्रोतुमस्ति ममादरः । त्वत्तोऽन्य कथितुं कोऽपि न शक्नोति जगत्त्रये
O sage, tell me all this; I have great eagerness to hear. In all the three worlds, no one but you is able to explain it.
व्यास उवाच- साधुसाधु द्विजश्रेष्ठ मनस्ते विमलं ध्रुवम् । यतो गुह्यकथामेतां श्रोतुं श्रद्धा च कौतुकम्
Vyasa said: Excellent, excellent, O best of twice-born! Surely your mind is pure, for you have faith and curiosity to hear this secret teaching.
भागीरथ्या गुणं सम्यक्कथितुं न हि शक्यते । तस्मात्समासतो वक्ष्ये श्रूयतामेकचेतसा
The virtues of Bhagirathi cannot truly be described in full; therefore, I will speak of them briefly—listen with one-pointed mind.
गङ्गेत्यक्षरयुग्मं च जपत्यत्यन्तकोमलम् । मन्ये व्रजेत्तथाप्येनो महाभूतरसायनम्
One who softly recites the two syllables 'Ganga'—I consider that even so, he goes, freed from sin, to the great elixir of the elements.
सर्वत्र सुलभा गङ्गा त्रिषु स्थानेषु दुर्लभा । गङ्गाद्वारे प्रयागे च गङ्गासागरसङ्गमे
The Ganga is easily accessible everywhere, but difficult to reach in three places: at Gangadvara, at Prayaga, and at the confluence of the Ganga and the ocean.
सवासवाः सुराः सर्वे गङ्गाद्वारं मनोरमम् । समागत्य प्रकुर्वन्ति स्नानदानादिकं मुने
All the gods, along with Indra, gather at the delightful Gangadvara, O sage, and perform bathing, giving, and other rites.
दैवयोगान्मुने तत्र ये त्यजंति कलेवरम् । मनुष्य पशु कीटाद्या लभंते परमं पदम्
By divine arrangement, O sage, those who give up their bodies there—whether human, animal, or insect—attain the supreme state.
अत्रेतिहासं विप्रर्षे कथ्यमानं मया शुणु । सम्यक्छ्रवणमात्रेण सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
Now, O sage among Brahmins, listen to this ancient tale I am about to tell; by merely hearing it properly, one is freed from all sins.
मनोभद्रो नाम राजा सोमवंश समुद्भवः । पूर्वमासीज्जगत्यस्मिन्बलवान्सर्वधर्म्मवित्
There was a king named Manobhadra, born of the lunar dynasty, who formerly lived in this world, powerful and versed in all duties.
तस्य हेमप्रभा नाम महिषी प्रियवादिनी । पतिव्रता महाभागा सर्वलक्षणसंयुता
His queen was named Hemaprabha, sweet-spoken, devoted to her husband, greatly fortunate, and endowed with all auspicious marks.
