Tranquility is the fifth flower, self-restraint the sixth, meditation the seventh, and truth the eighth; by these, Keśava is pleased.
Hari is indeed satisfied when worshipped with these eight flowers; other flowers exist, but they are external, O best of men.
By acts performed with devotion, Viṣṇu is worshipped and fully satisfied; water from Varuṇa, flowers, gentle ghee and milk-ocean offerings.
Offerings from Prajāpati, food, fire incense and lamps, fruits and flowers, and the fifth is from trees and plants.
Earthly offerings from grass roots, airy offerings of fragrant sandalwood, the flower called faith for Viṣṇu, and music is remembered as Viṣṇu's foot.
Even when worshipped with these flowers, Viṣṇu is pleased; the sun, fire, brāhmaṇas, cows, the Vaiṣṇava, sky, wind, and water.
The earth, the soul, all beings are places of worship for Hari; in the sun, worship is by mantra recitation, in fire by offerings.
By hospitality to foremost brāhmaṇas, by giving food to cows, by honoring relatives in the Vaiṣṇava, and by steadfast meditation in the heart.
In the wind, with focused mind; in water, with substances preceded by water; on the ground, with mantra-hearted offerings, one should offer oneself to the Self.
One should worship the Knower of the field, the Lord, in all beings with equality; in the seats, his form with conch, discus, mace, and lotus.
Meditating on him, united, four-armed, peaceful, one should worship with concentration; when worshipped by brāhmaṇas, he is indeed worshipped, without doubt.
When reproached by them, O king, the Lord is reproached; the Veda and Dharmaśāstra operate according to their foundation.
Those brāhmaṇas are considered the supreme, purifying Vaiṣṇava form.
All auspiciousness in the world is attained only through dharma; dharma is the path from the Veda and the king's Dharmaśāstra. Surely, the earth gods are the path for both; when worshipped, the Lord of the world is worshipped here.
Neither by sacrifices, nor by austerities, nor by other yogic practices, nor by worship, does the Lord of gods become as pleased as by the satisfaction of the earth gods.
He is devoted to Brahman, knows Brahman, is Brahmā, the promoter of the Brahman-Veda; he is pleased only by brāhmaṇas, and the Brahman deity is satisfied when they are satisfied.
Even those ancestors of both lineages who have long been submerged in hell, at that very moment attain heaven when a son worships Hari.
What is the value of their life here, or of actions like those of animals, for those whose minds are not inclined toward Vāsudeva, the all-pervading Lord?
I shall declare to you his meditation, which has not been seen by anyone; listen, O king, to the pure and stainless state of liberation.
Just as a lamp placed in a windless spot, unmoving and untouched by air, burns steadily and dispels all darkness, O wise one,
So too, the self, free from faults, becomes truly healthy, without hope, unmoving, heroic, with neither friend nor enemy.
He is freed from sorrow and joy, despondency, greed, envy, delusion, agitation, confusion, error, and from pleasure and pain.
He is also released from all sense objects and from the senses themselves; then, being one with pure knowledge, he attains the state of liberation.
Through the action of its flame, a lamp dries up its oil, O king, being steady and untouched by wind, with the wick as its support.
Afterwards, O wise one, it emits soot from the oil; a black line appears at the tip of the lamp, O wise one.
Drawing in that oil by its own radiance, it becomes pure; in the same way, when the self is established within the body, it dries up the oil of karma.
Turning sense objects into soot, it reveals them directly; becoming pure like a flame, it shines forth by itself.
Freed from the winds of anger, greed, and the like, being desireless and unmoving, its own radiance shines forth.
By its own radiance, it sees all the three worlds established in their own place; this form of pure knowledge I have described to you.
I shall also declare the twofold meditation of him who bears the discus; in the form of pure knowledge, he is seen by the vision of others.
