नृत्यैर्मत्तमयूराणामाकुलं स्मरवर्द्धनम् । रसांबुसेकसंसृष्ट तमांजनतनुद्युतिम्
The place is enlivened by the dances of intoxicated peacocks, stirring the god of love, and shines with the radiance of tamāla trees moistened by streams of nectar.
सुस्निग्धनीलकुटिल कषायावासिकुंतलम् । मदमत्तमयूराद्य शिखंडाबद्धचूडकम्
His hair is soft, dark-blue, curly, tinged with reddish cloth, adorned with a crest formed by the feathers of intoxicated peacocks and other birds.
भृंगसेवितसव्योपक्रमपुष्पावतंसकम् । लोलालकालिविलसत्कपोलादर्शकाशितम्
His ear is adorned with a flower cluster freshly served by bees, and his cheeks, shining like a mirror, are graced by playful, dangling locks.
विचित्रतिलकोद्दाम भालशोभाविराजितम् । तिलपुष्पपतंगेश चंचुमंजुलनासिकम्
His forehead is splendid with a brilliant, varied tilaka mark; his nose is like the beak of a tilapuṣpa moth, adorned with a delicate ornament.
चारुबिंबाधरं मंदस्मितदीपितमन्मथम् । वन्यप्रसूनसंकाश ग्रैवेयकमनोहरम्
His lovely lips are like bimba fruit, his gentle smile kindles love, and his charming necklace resembles wild forest flowers.
मदोन्मत्तभ्रमद्भृंगी सहस्रकृतसेवया । सुरद्रुमस्रजाराजन्मुग्धपीनांसकद्वयम्
His two shapely arms are adorned by garlands from celestial trees, made beautiful by the constant service of swarms of intoxicated bees.
मुक्ताहारस्फुरद्वक्षः स्थलकौस्तुभभूषितम् । श्रीवत्सलक्षणं जानुलंबिबाहुमनोहरम्
His chest, adorned with a shining pearl necklace and the Kaustubha gem, bears the mark of Śrīvatsa and delights the eyes down to his knees.
गंभीरनाभिपंचास्य मध्यमध्यातिसुंदरम् । सुजातद्रुमसद्वृत्त मदूरजानुमंजुलम्
His deep navel, five faces, and slender waist are exceedingly beautiful; his well-formed thighs resemble the trunks of fine trees, and his knees are lovely as honey.
कंकणांगदमञ्जीरैर्भूषितं भूषणैः परैः । पीतांशुकलयाविष्ट नितंबघटनायकम्
He is adorned with bracelets, armlets, and anklets—supreme ornaments—and is clothed in yellow silk, the leader among those with shapely hips.
लावण्यैरपि सौंदर्यजितकोटिमनोभवम् । वेणुप्रवर्त्तितैर्गीतरागैरपि मनोहरैः
Even the god of love is surpassed by his beauty and charm; the enchanting melodies played on his flute captivate all.
मोहयंतं सुखांभोधौ मज्जयंतं जगत्त्रयम् । प्रत्यंगमदनावेशधरं रासरसालसम्
He bewilders the three worlds, immersing them in an ocean of bliss, and his every limb is filled with the passion of love, delighting in the rasa dance.
चामरं व्यजनं माल्यं गंधंचंदनमेव च । तांबूलं दर्पणं पानपात्रं चर्वितपात्रकम्
There are fans, fly-whisks, garlands, fragrant sandalwood paste, betel, mirrors, drinking vessels, and cups for chewed morsels.
अन्यत्क्रीडाभवं यद्यत्तत्सर्वं च पृथक्पृथक् । रसालं विविधं यंत्रं कलयंतीभिरादरात्
Whatever other amusements there were, each separately, the various machines for enjoyment were attentively operated.
यथास्थाननियुक्ताभिः पश्यंतीभिस्तदिंगितम् । तन्मुखांभोजदत्ताक्षि चंचलाभिरनुक्रमात्
Those who were stationed in their proper places watched for gestures, and their restless eyes followed the signals from the lotus face.
श्रीमत्या राधिका देव्या वामभागे ससंभ्रमम् । आराधयंत्या तांबूलमर्पयंत्या शुचिस्मितम्
The illustrious goddess Radhika, on the left side, with reverence, offered betel to her, smiling purely.
समालोक्यार्जुनी यासौ मदनावेशविह्वला । ततस्तां च तथा ज्ञात्वा हृषीकेशोऽपि सर्ववित्
Arjuni, seeing her overwhelmed by the influence of love, and then understanding her thus, Hrishikesha, the all-knowing, also—
तस्याः पाणिं गृहीत्वैव सर्वक्रीडावनांतरे । यथाकामं रहो रेमे महायोगेश्वरो विभुः
Taking her hand, in the midst of all the amusements, the great master of yoga, the Lord, enjoyed privately as he wished.
ततस्तस्याः स्कंधदेशे प्रदत्तभुजपल्लवः । आगत्य शारदां प्राह पश्चिमेऽस्मिन्सरोवरे
Then, placing his tender arm on her shoulder, he approached Sharada and spoke at the western lake.
शीघ्रं स्नापय तन्वंगीं क्रीडाश्रांतां मृदुस्मिताम् । ततस्तां शारदा देवी तस्मिन्क्रीडासरोवरे
Quickly bathe the slender-bodied one, tired from play and gently smiling; then Sharada Devi, at that play-lake—
स्नानं कुर्वित्युवाचैनां सा च श्रांता तथाकरोत् । जलाभ्यंतरमाप्तासौ पुनरर्जुनतां गतः
Said to her, 'Take a bath,' and she, being tired, did so; entering the water, she again became Arjuna.
उत्तस्थौ यत्र देवेशः श्रीमद्वैकुंठनायकः । दृष्ट्वा तमर्जुनं कृष्णो विषण्णं भग्नमानसम्
There arose the Lord of the gods, the glorious ruler of Vaikuntha; seeing Arjuna, Krishna, dejected and broken-hearted—
मायया पाणिना स्पृष्ट्वा प्रकृतं विदधे पुनः । श्रीकृष्ण उवाच-। धनंजय त्वामाशंसे भवान्प्रियसखो मम
Touched him with his hand by his own power, and restored him to his original state. Shri Krishna said: 'Dhananjaya, I trust you; you are my dear friend.'
त्वत्समो नास्ति मे कोपि रहोवेत्ता जगत्त्रये । यद्रहस्यं त्वया पृष्टमनुभूतं च तत्पुनः
There is no one equal to you among the three worlds who knows my secrets; whatever secret you have asked and experienced, that again—
कथ्यते यदि तत्कस्मै शपसे मां तदार्जुन । सनत्कुमार उवाच-। इति प्रसादमासाद्य शपथैर्जातनिर्णयः
If it is told, to whom would you swear me, Arjuna? Sanatkumara said: Thus, having received grace, the decision was made by oaths.
ययौ हृष्टमनास्तस्मात्स्वधामाद्भुतसंस्मृतिः । इति ते कथितं सर्वं रहो यद्गोचरं मम
He departed joyfully from there to his own abode, with wondrous remembrance. Thus, all that has been told to you is what was within my secret experience.
गोविंदस्य तथा चास्मै कथने शपथस्तव । ईश्वर उवाच-। इति श्रुत्वा वचस्तस्य सिद्धिमौपगविर्गतः
And to Govinda, as well as to you, the oath was made in the telling. Ishvara said: Hearing his words, Siddhimaupaga departed.
नरनारायणावासं वृंदारण्यमुपाव्रजत् । तत्रास्तेऽद्यापि कृष्णस्य नित्यलीलाविहारवित्
He approached the abode of Nara-Narayana, Vrindavana; there, even today, he abides, knowing the eternal pastimes of Krishna.
नारदेनापिपृष्टोऽहं नाब्रवं तद्रहस्यकम् । प्राप्तं तथापि तेनेदं प्रकृतित्वमुपेत्यच
When Narada asked me, I did not reveal that secret; yet, having attained it, he came to his own nature.
तुभ्यं यत्तु मया प्रोक्तं रहस्यं स्नेहकारणात् । तन्नकस्मैचिदाख्येयं त्वया भद्रे स्वयोनिवत्
What secret I have told you, out of affection, should not be disclosed to anyone else by you, O blessed one, except to your own offspring.
इमं श्रीभगवद्भक्तमहिमाध्यायमद्भुतम् । यः पठेच्छृणुयाद्वापि स रतिं विंदते हरौ
Whoever recites or hears this wondrous chapter of the glory of devotion to the Blessed Lord attains delight in Hari.
