वर्णप्रभा समाख्याता सुप्रभेयं मणिप्रभा । इयं हारावली तारा मालिनीयं शुभा मता
This is Varṇaprabhā, well-known, this is Suprabhā, and Maṇiprabhā; this is Hārāvalī, Tārā, and Mālinī, regarded as auspicious.
मालतीयमियं यूथी वासंती नवमल्लिका । मल्लीयं नवमल्लीयमसौ शेफालिका मता
This is Mālatī, this is Yūthī, Vāsantī, and Navamallikā; this is Mallī, this is Navamallī, and that one is known as Śephālikā.
सौगंधिकेयं कस्तूरी पद्मिनीयं कुमुद्वती । एषैव हि रसोल्लासा चित्रवृंदा समा त्वियम्
This is Saugaṃdhikā, Kastūrī, Padminī, and Kumudvatī; this indeed is Rasollāsā, and this is Citravṛndā.
रंभेयमुर्वशी चैषा सुरेखा स्वर्णरेखिका । एषा कांचनमालेयं सत्यसंततिका परा
This is Rambhā, this is Urvaśī, Surekhā, and Svarṇarekhikā; this is Kāñcanamālā, and the excellent Satyasaṃtatikā.
एताः परिकृताः सर्वाः परिचेयाः परा अपि । सहितास्माभिरेताभिर्विहरिष्यसि भामिनि
All these have been described and introduced, even the foremost; together with these, O beautiful one, you shall enjoy yourself.
एहि पूर्वसरस्तीरे तत्र त्वां विधिवत्सखि । स्नापयित्वाथ दास्यामि मंत्रं सिद्धिप्रदायकम्
Come to the bank of the eastern lake; there, according to the proper rite, O friend, after bathing you, I will give you a mantra that grants success.
इति तां सहसा नीत्वा स्नापयित्वा विधानतः । वृंदावनकलानाथ प्रेयस्या मंत्रमुत्तमम्
Thus, having quickly led her and bathed her according to the procedure, the lord of Vṛndāvana's arts gave his beloved the supreme mantra.
ग्राहयामास संक्षेपाद्दीक्षाविधिपुरस्सरम् । परं वरुणबीजस्य वह्निबीजपुरस्कृतम्
He caused her to receive it briefly, preceded by the rite of initiation, with the seed-syllable of Varuṇa, led by the seed-syllable of Agni.
चतुर्थस्वरसंयुक्तं नादबिंदुविभूषितम् । पुटितं प्रणवाभ्यां च त्रैलोक्ये चातिदुर्ल्लभम्
Endowed with the fourth tone, adorned with sound and bindu, enclosed by the two syllables of Om, it is exceedingly rare in the three worlds.
मंत्रग्रहणमात्रेण सिद्धिः सर्वा प्रजायते । पुरश्चर्याविधिर्ध्यानं होमसंख्याजपस्य च
By merely receiving the mantra, all attainments arise; the prescribed rites, meditation, the count of offerings, and recitation.
तप्तकांचनगौरांगीं नानालंकारभूषिताम् । आश्चर्यरूपलावण्यां सुप्रसन्नां वरप्रदाम्
Her limbs gleam like heated gold, adorned with various ornaments, wondrous in form and beauty, serene, and bestower of boons.
कल्हारैः करवीराद्यैश्चंपकैः सरसीरुहैः । सुगंधकुसुमैरन्यैः सौगंधिकसमन्वितैः
With kalhāra, karavīra, campaka, and lotus flowers, and other fragrant blossoms, accompanied by the finest perfumes.
पाद्यार्घ्याचमनीयैश्च धूपदीपैर्मनोहरैः । नैवेद्यैर्विविधैर्दिव्यैः सखीवृंदाहृतैर्मुदा
With water for the feet, offerings, sipping water, delightful incense and lamps, and various divine foods joyfully brought by her companions.
संपूज्य विधिवद्देवीं जप्त्वा लक्षमनुं ततः । हुत्वा च विधिना स्तुत्वा प्रणम्य दंडवद्भुवि
Having worshipped the goddess according to the rite, then recited the mantra a hundred thousand times, offered oblations as prescribed, praised her, and bowed prostrate to the ground.
ततः सा संस्तुता देवी निमेषरहितांतरा । परिकल्प्य निजां छायां माययात्मसमीहया
Then, as the goddess was praised, in a moment without blinking, she fashioned her own shadow by her own power and illusion.
पार्श्वेऽथ प्रेयसीं तत्र स्थापयित्वा बलादिव । सखीभिरावृता हृष्टा शुद्धैः पूजाजपादिभिः
Placing her beloved at her side as if by force, surrounded by joyful companions, pure in worship, recitation, and other rites.
स्तवैर्भक्त्या प्रणामैश्च कृपयाविरभूत्तदा । हेमचंपकवर्णाभा विचित्राभरणोज्ज्वला
With hymns, devotion, and salutations, she appeared with compassion, shining with the hue of golden campaka, radiant with diverse ornaments.
अंगप्रत्यंगलावण्य लालित्य मधुराकृतिः । निष्कलंक शरत्पूर्णकलानाथ शुभानना
Her beauty graced every limb and feature, charming and sweet in form, flawless, her face auspicious as the full autumn moon, lord of arts.
स्निग्धमुग्धस्मितालोक जगत्त्रयमनोहरा । निजया प्रभयात्यंतं द्योतयंती दिशो दश
With a gentle, innocent smile, enchanting the three worlds, she illumined the ten directions with her own radiant light.
अब्रवीदथ सा देवी वरदा भक्तवत्सला । देव्युवाच-। मत्सखीनां वचः सत्यं तेन त्वं मे प्रिया सखी
Then the goddess, giver of boons and fond of devotees, spoke: 'The words of my companions are true; therefore you are my dear friend.'
समुत्तिष्ठ समागच्छ कामं ते साधयाम्यहम् । अर्जुनी सा वचो देव्याः श्रुत्वा चात्ममनीषितम्
'Rise, come near; I will fulfill your desire.' Hearing the goddess's words, Arjunī reflected within herself.
पुलकांकुरमुग्धांगी बाष्पाकुलविलोचना । पपात चरणे देव्याः पुनश्च प्रेमविह्वला
Her body thrilled, her eyes filled with tears, she fell at the goddess's feet, again overcome with love.
ततः प्रियंवदां देवीं समुवाच सखीमिमाम् । पाणौ गृहीत्वा मत्संगे समाश्वास्य समानय
Then the goddess addressed her dear companion, taking her hand, comforting her, and bringing her close.
ततः प्रियंवदा देव्या आज्ञया जातसंभ्रमा । तां तथैव समादाय संगे देव्या जगाम ह
Then Priyamvada, by the goddess's command and with excitement, brought her just so, and went to the goddess's side.
गत्वोत्तरसरस्तीरे स्नापयित्वा विधानतः । संकल्पादिकपूर्वं तु पूजयित्वा यथाविधि
Having gone to the northern shore of the lake, bathed her as prescribed, performed the preliminary rites, and worshipped her according to the rules.
श्रीगोकुलकलानाथमंत्रं तच्च सुसिद्धिदम् । ग्राहयामास तां देवी कृपया हरिवल्लभा
The goddess, beloved of Hari, out of compassion, imparted to her the mantra of the lord of arts of Gokula, which grants supreme accomplishment.
व्रतं गोकुलनाथाख्यं पूर्वं मोहनभूषितम् । सर्वसिद्धिप्रदं मंत्रं सर्वतंत्रेषु गोपितम्
The vow called Gokulanātha, adorned with enchantment from the beginning, is a mantra that grants all accomplishments and is kept secret in all tantras.
गोविंदेरितविज्ञासौ ददौ भक्तिमचंचलाम् । ध्यानं च कथितं तस्यै मंत्रराजं च मोहनम्
Govinda, having revealed its knowledge, bestowed unwavering devotion, and also taught her its meditation and the king of enchanting mantras.
उक्तं च मोहने तंत्रे स्मृतिरप्यस्य सिद्धिदा । नीलोत्पलदलश्यामं नानालंकारभूषितम्
It is said in the Mohana Tantra that even remembering this grants success; he is dark as a blue lotus petal, adorned with various ornaments.
कोटिकंदर्पलावण्यं ध्यायेद्रासरसाकुलम् । प्रियंवदामुवाचेदं रहस्यं पावनेच्छया
One should meditate on him, radiant with the beauty of ten million Cupids, surrounded by the rasa dance, and speaking sweetly; to Priyamvada he spoke this secret out of a wish to purify.
