दुष्टवादी खंडितः स्यात्खल्वाटः परनिंदकः । सभायां पक्षपाती च जायते पक्षघातवान्
A slanderer becomes deformed; a bald-headed man is one who insults others; a partial person in an assembly is born paralyzed.
परोक्तहास्यकृत्काणः कुनखी विप्रहेमहृत् । तुंदीवरी ताम्रचौरः कांस्यहृत्पुंडरीकिकः
One who mocks others' words is born one-eyed; a thief of gold from a brāhmaṇa is born with deformed nails; a thief of pumpkins is born with a protruding belly; a thief of copper is born with red skin; a thief of bronze is born with lotus-like eyes.
त्रपुहारी च पुरुषो जायते पिंगमूर्द्धजः । शीसहारी च पुरुषो जायते शीर्षरोगवान्
A man who steals tin is born with yellow hair; one who steals lead is born with head diseases.
घृतचौरस्तु पुरुषो जायते नेत्ररोगवान् । लोहहारी च पुरुषो बर्बरांगः प्रजायते
A man who steals ghee is born with eye diseases; a man who steals iron is born with a rough body.
चर्महारी च पुरुषो जायते मेदसा वृतः । मधुचौरस्तु पुरुषो जायते बस्तिगंधवान्
A man who steals skin is born covered in fat; a man who steals honey is born with a foul-smelling bladder.
तैलचौर्येण भवति नरः कण्ड्वातिपीडितः । आमान्नहरणाच्चैव दंतहीनः प्रजायते
By stealing oil, a person becomes afflicted with severe itching; by stealing uncooked rice, he is born toothless.
पक्वान्नहरणाच्चैव जिह्वारोगयुतो भवेत् । मातृगामी च पुरुषो जायते लिंगवर्जितः
By stealing cooked food, one is afflicted with diseases of the tongue; a man who approaches his mother is born without genitals.
गुरुजायाभिगमनान्मूत्रकृच्छ्रः प्रजायते । भगिनीं चैव गमने पीतकुष्ठः प्रजायते
By approaching the wife of a teacher, one is born with painful urination; by approaching a sister, one is born with yellow leprosy.
स्वसुतागमने चैव रक्तकुष्ठः प्रजायते । भ्रातृभार्याभिगमने गुल्मकुष्ठः प्रजायते
By approaching one's own daughter, one is born with red leprosy; by approaching a brother's wife, one is born with glandular leprosy.
स्वामिगम्यादिगमने जायते दद्रुमंडलम् । विश्वस्तभार्यागमने गजचर्मा प्रजायते
By approaching the wife of a master or similar, one is born with ringworm; by approaching a trusted friend's wife, one is born with elephantiasis.
पितृष्वस्रभिगमने दक्षिणांगे व्रणी भवेत् । मातुलान्यास्तु गमने वामांगे व्रणवान्भवेत्
By approaching the father's sister, a wound arises on the right side; by approaching the mother's brother's wife, one becomes wounded on the left side.
पितृव्यपत्नीगमने कटौ कुष्ठः प्रजायते । मित्रभार्याभिगमने मृतभार्यः प्रजायते
By approaching the father's brother's wife, leprosy arises on the waist; by approaching a friend's wife, one becomes bereft of one's own wife.
स्वगोत्रस्त्रीप्रसंगेन जायते च भगंदरः । तपस्विनीप्रसंगेन प्रमेहो जायते नरे
By intercourse with a woman of one's own lineage, fistula develops; by intercourse with an ascetic woman, diabetes arises in a man.
श्रोत्रियस्त्रीप्रसंगेन जायते नासिकाव्रणी । दीक्षितस्त्रीप्रसंगेन जायते दुष्टरक्तसृक्
By intercourse with a woman of a learned family, a wound appears on the nose; by intercourse with a consecrated woman, one develops impure blood flow.
स्वजातिजायागमने जायते हृदयव्रणी । जात्युन्नतस्त्रीगमने जायते मस्तकव्रणी
By approaching a wife of one's own caste, a wound arises in the heart; by approaching a woman of a higher caste, a wound appears on the head.
पशुयोनौ च गमनान्मूत्रघातः प्रजायते । एते दोषा नराणां स्युर्नरकांते न संशयः
By intercourse with animals, urinary retention arises; these are the faults of men, leading to hell without doubt.
स्त्रीणामपि भवंत्येते तत्तत्पुरुषसंगमात् । एवं राजन्हि चिह्नानि कीर्तितानि सुपापिनाम्
These same conditions also arise in women from union with such men; thus, O King, the marks of great sinners have been described.
दानपुण्यप्रसंगेन तीर्थादिक्रियया तथा । रामस्य चरितं श्रुत्वा तपसा वाक्षयं व्रजेत्
Through the merit of giving, through holy rites such as pilgrimage, and by hearing the deeds of Rama, one attains inexhaustible merit through austerity.
सर्वेषामेव पापानां हरिकीर्तिधुनी नृणाम् । क्षालयेत्पापिनां पंकं नात्र कार्या विचारणा
The river of Hari's praise washes away the filth of all sins for people; there should be no doubt about this.
यो नावमन्येत हरिं तस्य यागाविधि श्रुताः । तीर्थान्यपि सुपुण्यानि पावितुं न क्षमाणि तम्
For one who disrespects Hari, even the prescribed rites and the most sacred pilgrimages are not able to purify him.
हसते कीर्त्यमानं यश्चरित्रं ज्ञानदुर्बलः । न तस्य नरकान्मुक्तिः कल्पांतेऽपि भविष्यति
He who mocks the narration of the Lord's deeds, being weak in understanding, will not attain liberation from hell even at the end of an age.
या हि राजन्विमोक्षार्थं हयस्यानुचरैः सह । श्रावय श्रीशचरितं यतो वाहगतिर्भवेत्
O King, for the sake of liberation, have the deeds of the Lord recited along with the attendants of the horse, so that the horse may attain a worthy destination.
शेष उवाच। इति श्रुत्वा प्रहृष्टोऽभूच्छत्रुघ्नः परवीरहा । प्रणम्य तं परिक्रम्य ययौ सेवकसंयुतः
Śeṣa said: Having heard this, Śatrughna, destroyer of enemy heroes, became delighted; after bowing and circling him, he departed with his attendants.
तत्र गत्वा स हनुमान्हयवर्यस्य पार्श्वतः । उवाच रामचरितं महादुर्गतिनाशकम्
Having gone there, Hanuman, standing by the noble horse, recited the deeds of Rama, which destroy great misfortune.
याहि देव विमानं स्वं रामकीर्तनपुण्यतः । स्वैरं चर स्वलोके त्वं मुक्तो भव कुयोनितः
Go now, O blessed one, to your own celestial vehicle by the merit of Rama's praise; roam freely in your own world, be liberated, O one of impure birth.
इति वाक्यं समाकर्ण्य शत्रुघ्नो यावदास्थितः । तावद्ददर्श विमलं देवं वैमानिकं वरम्
Hearing these words, as long as Śatrughna stood there, he beheld a pure and excellent celestial being in an aerial chariot.
स उवाच विमुक्तोऽहं रामकीर्तनसंश्रुतेः । यामि स्वं भवनं राजन्नाज्ञापय महामते
He said: I am liberated by hearing the praise of Rama; I go to my own abode, O king—command me, O wise one.
इत्युक्त्वा प्रययौ देवो विमाने स्वे परिस्थितः । तदा विस्मयमापुस्ते शत्रुघ्नेन सहानुगाः
Having spoken thus, the deity departed, established in his own celestial vehicle; then, together with Śatrughna, the attendants were filled with wonder.
ततो वाहो विनिर्मुक्तो गात्रस्तंभाच्च भूतलात् । ययौ तद्विपिनं सर्वं भ्रमन्पक्षिसमाकुलम्
Then the steed, released from its bonds and the stiffness of its limbs, wandered through that entire forest, filled with flocks of birds.
शेष उवाच। मासाः सप्ताभवंस्तस्य हयवर्यस्य हेलया । चरतो भारतं वर्षमनेकनृपपूरितम्
Śeṣa said: Seven months passed for that noble horse as it roamed at ease through the land of Bhārata, crowded with many kings.
