Hanuman said: O Rudra, since you act contrary to righteousness, I wish to chastise you, as you are intent on killing a devotee of Rama.
O god, I have long heard from many sages that Rudra, the wielder of Pinaka, always remembers the feet of Raghunatha.
But now all that has proven false, for while fighting Shatrughna, my valiant Pushkala has been slain, and Shatrughna himself is unconscious.
Therefore, today I will bring you down, you who are ready to bring about the destruction of the three worlds; stand firm, O Sharva, you who have turned away from devotion to Rama.
Śeṣa said: When the monkey had spoken thus, the great lord Maheshvara replied: You are blessed, best of heroes; what you say is not untrue.
My master is this Ramachandra, honored by gods and demons; then Shatrughna, slayer of enemy heroes, brought the horse.
I came to protect it, and by devotion to him I am subdued; in some way, as a devotee, he must be protected, for he is my very self—such is my resolve.
Raghunatha, showing compassion, looked upon me without shame, though, as his devotee suffered greatly, the great one harbored some anger.
Śeṣa said: As Chandīśa was speaking thus, Hanuman, greatly enraged, seized a great stone and struck his chariot.
Struck by the stone, his chariot was shattered into pieces, along with its charioteer, companions, and banners.
All the gods in the sky praised the lord of monkeys, saying, 'Blessed are you, lord of the monkeys; a great deed has been done by you.'
Seeing Śiva deprived of his chariot, Nandi quickly approached him and said to the great Mahādeva, 'Please mount my back.'
As Bhūteśa sat upon the bull, Hanuman, greatly enraged, forcefully uprooted a stone and struck him in the chest.
Thus struck, the lord of beings took up his sharp trident, blazing with three points and shining like tongues of fire.
Seeing that great trident approaching, blazing with fiery radiance, he seized it swiftly in his hand and shattered it into tiny pieces in an instant.
When the trident was thus broken at once by the lord of monkeys, Shiva immediately took up a spear made entirely of all metals in his hand.
That spear, released by Shiva, struck the heart of that wise one, and in that moment, the lord of monkeys became disoriented there.
But in a moment, overcoming that pain, he seized a mighty tree and struck upon the heart adorned with great serpents.
Struck by that hero, the assembled king serpents fled from him in all directions and swiftly went down to the netherworld.
When the serpent was released from his own chest and Shiva saw this, enraged, he fashioned a terrible mace with both his hands.
You are slain—flee from the battle, O lowest of monkeys! With this mace, I shall take your life here in a moment.
Seeing the mace hurled by the enraged Shiva, the monkey, remembering Hari, evaded it with great speed.
That renowned mace, released by Shiva, fell to the ground, tore open the entire earth, and went down to the netherworld.
Then Hanuman, the servant of Rama, became exceedingly enraged, seized a mountain in his hand, and struck Shiva on the chest.
As the lord of Uma resolved to cut the mountain, he was struck by the monkey king with a great, many-branched shala tree.
As he prepared to cut him as well, he was struck by a rock; and the gracious one, ready to split the rocks, steeled his own heart.
Then he made a rain of rocks and mountain peaks, and, wrapping him with his tail, struck the lord of beings.
With rocks, mountains, trees, and repeated blows of his tail, Nandi was seized with great terror, and even Chandra was shattered.
Utterly bewildered and provoked to anger, Maheshana became more and more agitated with each blow, making him greatly distraught.
He said to the lord of monkeys: 'Blessed are you, follower of Raghu! Today you have performed a great deed, and I am truly pleased with you.'
