प्रेरितो वासवेनाजावर्पयामास भक्तितः
Urged by Vāsava, he offered himself with devotion.
अष्टादशदिनै रामो रावणं द्वैरथेऽवधीत्
In eighteen days, Rāma slew Rāvaṇa in single combat.
माघशुक्लद्वितीयायाश्चैत्रकृष्ण चतुर्दशीम्
From the second day of the bright half of Māgha to the fourteenth of the dark half of Caitra,
युद्धावहारः संग्रामो द्वासप्तति दिनान्यभूत्
The battle and the engagement in war lasted for seventy-two days.
वैशाखादि तिथौ राम उवास रणभूमिषु
Rama remained on the battlefield during the lunar days beginning with Vaiśākha.
सीताशुद्धिस्तृतीयायां देवेभ्यो वरलंभनम्
On the third day, Sita's purity was established, and a boon was taken from the gods.
गृहीत्वा जानकीं पुण्यां दुःखितां राक्षसेन तु
Having taken Janaki, the virtuous one, who was distressed by the demon,
वैशाखस्य चतुर्थ्यां तु रामः पुष्पकमाश्रितः
On the fourth day of Vaiśākha, Rama boarded the Pushpaka chariot.
पूर्णे चतुर्दशे वर्षे पंचम्यां माधवस्य तु
When the fourteenth year was complete, on the fifth day of Mādhava,
नंदिग्रामे तु षष्ठ्यां स भरतेन समागतः
In Nandigrama, on the sixth day, he met with Bharata.
दशैकाधिकमासांस्तुचतुर्दशाहानि मैथिली
Maithili spent ten months and fourteen days in all.
द्विचत्वारिंशक वर्षे रामो राज्यमकारयत्
In the forty-second year, Rama performed the royal consecration.
स चतुर्दशवर्षांते प्रविश्य च पुरीं प्रभुः
At the end of fourteen years, the lord entered the city.
भ्रातृभिः सहितस्तत्र रामो राज्यमथाकरोत्
There, together with his brothers, Rama then ruled the kingdom.
अगस्त्यः कुंभसंभूतिस्तमागंता रघोः पतिम्
Agastya, born from a pot, came to the lord of the Raghu dynasty.
तस्यागमिष्यति हयो ह्याश्रमे तव सुव्रत
A horse will come to your hermitage, O virtuous one.
तेषामग्रे रामकथाः करिष्यसि मनोहराः
In their presence, you will narrate delightful stories of Rama.
दृष्ट्वा राममयोध्यायां पद्मपत्रनिभेक्षणम्
Having seen Rama in Ayodhya, whose eyes resembled lotus petals,
इत्युक्त्वा मां मुनिवरो लोमशः सर्वबुद्धिमान्
Having spoken thus to me, the great sage Lomasha, wise in all things,
ज्ञातं त्वत्कृपया सर्वं रामचारित्रमद्भुतम्
By your grace, all the wondrous deeds of Rama have been known.
मया नमस्कृतः पश्चाज्जगाम स मुनीश्वरः
After I had bowed, that lord of sages departed.
सोऽहं स्मरामि रामस्य चरणावन्वहं मुहुः
I remember again and again the feet of Rama.
पावयामि जनानन्यान्गानेन स्वांतहारिणा
With this enchanting song, I purify people, captivating their hearts.
धन्योऽहं कृतकृत्योऽहं सभाग्योऽहं महीतले
I am blessed, I have fulfilled my purpose, I am fortunate upon this earth.
तस्मात्सर्वात्मना रामो भजनीयो मनोहरः
Therefore, with all one's being, Rama—so captivating—should be worshipped.
तस्माद्यूयं किमर्थं वै प्राप्ताः को वानराधिपः
Therefore, for what purpose have you all come, and who is the lord of the monkeys?
तत्सर्वं कथयंत्वत्र यां तु वाहस्य पालने
Tell me everything here—especially regarding the care of the horse.
इति वाक्यं समाकर्ण्य मुनेर्विस्मयमागताः
Hearing these words, they became amazed at the sage.
शेष उवाच। ते पृष्टा मुनिवर्येण रामचारित्रमद्भुतम् । धन्यं सभाग्यं मन्वानाः प्रोचुरात्मानमादरात्
Śeṣa said: Questioned by the eminent sage about the wondrous deeds of Rama, considering themselves blessed and fortunate, they respectfully spoke about themselves.
जना ऊचुः। पवित्रिता वयं सर्वे दर्शनेन तवाधुना । यद्रामकथयास्मान्वै पावयस्यधुना जनान्
The people said: We are all purified now by your very sight, and now you purify people by recounting the story of Rama.
