तीर्त्वाहं सागरमपि हनिष्ये राक्षसेश्वरम्
Having crossed even the ocean, I will slay the lord of the rākṣasas.
वासरैः सप्तभिः सिंधोः स्कंधावारनिवेशनम्
Within seven days, the encampment was established on the shore of the ocean.
उपस्थानं ससैन्यस्य राघवस्य बभूव ह
The approach of Rāghava, together with his army, took place.
समुद्रतरणार्थाय पंचम्यां मंत्र उद्यतः
On the fifth day, counsel was undertaken for crossing the ocean.
समुद्रवरलाभश्च सहोपायप्रदर्शनम्
The boon of the ocean was obtained, along with the demonstration of the means.
चतुर्दश्यां सुवेलाद्रौ रामः सैन्यं न्यवेशयत्
On the fourteenth day, Rāma stationed the army on Suvela mountain.
तीर्त्वा तोयनिधिं रामो वानरेश्वरसैन्यवान्
Rāma, accompanied by the army of the monkey chiefs, crossed the ocean.
तृतीयादि दशम्यंतं निवेशश्च दिनाष्टकम्
From the third to the tenth day, the encampment lasted for eight days.
पौषासिताख्यद्वादश्यां सैन्यसंख्यानमेव च
On the twelfth day called Pauṣāsitā, the enumeration of the army took place.
त्रयोदश्या अमावास्यां लंकायां दिवसैस्त्रिभिः
On the thirteenth day and the new moon, within three days, in Laṅkā.
प्रययावंगदो दौत्यं माघशुक्लाद्यवासरे
Angada departed as envoy on the day beginning Māgha's bright fortnight.
माघद्वितीयादि दिनैः सप्तभिर्यावदष्टमी
From the second day of Māgha, for seven days, up to the eighth day.
माघशुक्लनवम्यां तु रात्राविंद्रजिता रणे
On the ninth day of Māgha's bright fortnight, at night, Indrajit was slain in battle.
आकुलेषु कपीशेषु निरुत्साहेषु सर्वशः
When the monkey chiefs were distressed and completely dispirited.
कर्णे स्वरूपं रामस्य गरुडागमनं ततः
In the ear, the true form of Rāma was revealed, and then Garuḍa arrived.
त्रयोदश्यां तु तेनैव निहतः कंपनो रणे
On the thirteenth day, Kampana was slain in battle by the same means.
त्रिदिनेन प्रहस्तस्य नीलेन विहितो वधः
In three days, the death of Prahasta was accomplished by Nīla.
रामेण तुमुले युद्धे रावणो द्रावितो रणात्
In the tumultuous battle, Rāvaṇa was driven from the field by Rāma.
कुंभकर्णस्तदा चक्रेऽभ्यवहारं चतुर्दिनम्
Then Kumbhakarṇa engaged in combat for four days.
रामेण निहतो युद्धे बहुवानरभक्षकः
He who devoured many monkeys was slain in battle by Rāma.
फाल्गुनादिप्रतिपदश्चतुर्थ्यंतं चतुर्दिनैः
From the first day of the bright fortnight to the fourth, four days passed.
पंचम्याः सप्तमी यावदतिकायवधस्तथा
From the fifth to the seventh day, Atikāya was likewise slain.
निकुंभकुंभावूर्ध्वं तु मकराक्षस्त्रिभिर्दिनैः
After Nikumbha and Kumbha, Makarākṣa was killed in three days.
तृतीयादिसप्तम्यंतं दिनपंचकमेव च
From the third to the seventh day, there were five days in all.
ततस्त्रयोदशीयावद्दिनैः पंचभिरिंद्रजित्
Then, in five days up to the thirteenth day, Indrajit was slain.
चतुर्दश्यां दशग्रीवो दीक्षां प्रापावहारतः
On the fourteenth day, Daśagrīva undertook the consecration for battle.
चैत्रशुक्लप्रतिपदः पंचमीदिनपंचकैः
From the first day of the bright half of Caitra, five days passed until the fifth.
चैत्रषष्ठ्याष्टमी यावन्महापार्श्वादि मारणम्
From the sixth to the eighth day of Caitra, the destruction of Mahāpārśva and others occurred.
कोपाविष्टेन रामेण द्रावितो दशकंधरः
Seized by wrath, Rāma drove away the ten-headed one.
दशम्यामवहारोभूद्रात्रौ युद्धे तु रक्षसाम्
On the tenth day, there was a night battle among the Rākṣasas.
