एतैः पंचभिरेतस्मिन्नीले पर्वतसत्तमे । यास्यसे ब्रह्मदेवेंद्र वंदितं सुरपूजितम्
'With these five, on this best of blue mountains, you will go to the place worshipped by gods and honored by Brahma and Indra.'
इत्युक्त्वाऽदृश्यतां प्राप्तो यतिः क्वापि न दृश्यते । तदाकर्ण्य नृपो हर्षं प्राप चाशु सविस्मयम्
Having said this, the ascetic became invisible and was seen nowhere; hearing this, the king at once felt joy and amazement.
राजोवाच। स्वामिन्कोऽसौ समागत्य संन्यासी मां यदूचिवान् । न दृश्यते पुनः कुत्र गतोऽसौ चित्तहर्षदः
The king said: 'That master, the ascetic, having come and spoken to me, is seen no more—where has he gone, he who brought delight to my heart?'
तापस उवाच। राजंस्तव महाप्रेम्णा कृष्टचित्तः समभ्यगात् । पुरुषोत्तमनामायं सर्वपापप्रणाशनः
The ascetic said: 'O king, drawn by your great love, he came, his mind attracted; this is Purushottama, destroyer of all sins.'
श्वोमध्याह्ने तव पुरो भविष्यति महान्गिरिः । तमारुह्य हरिं दृष्ट्वा कृतार्थस्त्वं भविष्यसि
'Tomorrow at midday, before you, the great mountain will appear; ascending it and seeing Hari, you will have attained your purpose.'
इतिवाक्यसुधापूर नाशितस्वांत संज्वरः । हर्षं यमाप स नृपो ब्रह्मापि न हि वेत्ति तम्
With these nectar-like words, the king's inner distress was destroyed; he attained joy that even Brahma does not know.
तदा दुंदुभयो नेदुर्वीणापणवगोमुखाः । महानंदस्तदा ह्यासीद्राजराजस्य चेतसि
Then, drums resounded, lutes, flutes, and cowhorns played; great happiness arose in the mind of the king of kings.
गायन्हरिं क्षणं तिष्ठन्हसञ्जल्पन्ब्रुवन्नमन् । आनंदं प्राप सुघनं सर्वसंतापनाशनम्
Singing of Hari, standing for a moment, praising and speaking his name, he attained profound joy that destroyed all suffering.
सुमतिरुवाच। अथ सर्वं दिनं नीत्वा हरिस्मरणकीर्तनैः । रात्रौ सुष्वाप गंगाया रोधस्युरुफलप्रदे
Sumati spoke: Then, having spent the entire day in remembrance and praise of Hari, he slept at night upon the fertile bank of the Ganga.
ददर्श स्वप्नमध्ये तु स स्वात्मानं चतुर्भुजम् । शंखचक्रगदापद्मशार्ङ्गकोदंडधारिणम्
In the midst of sleep, he saw himself in a dream with four arms, bearing the conch, discus, mace, lotus, bow, and arrows.
नृत्यंतं पुरुषोत्तमस्य पुरतः शर्वादि देवैः सह । श्रीमद्भिः स्वतनूयुतैररिगदांबूत्थाब्जहेत्यादिभिः । विष्वक्सेनवरैर्गणैः सुतनुभिः श्रीशंसदोपासितं । दृष्ट्वा विस्मयमाप लोकविषयं हर्षं तथात्यद्भुतम्
He saw himself dancing before Purushottama, together with Shiva and other gods, surrounded by his own radiant forms, holding the mace, lotus, and other weapons, attended by the foremost guardians and their groups, worshipped by the blessed, and he experienced wonder, delight, and extraordinary joy beyond worldly measure.
ददतं मनसोऽभीष्टं पुरुषोत्तमसंज्ञितम् । आत्मानं च कृपापात्रममन्यत महामतिः
He saw himself, called Purushottama, granting the desires of the mind, and the wise one considered himself a recipient of compassion.
इत्येवं स्वप्नविषये ददर्श नृपसत्तमः । प्रातः प्रबुद्धो विप्राय जगाद स्वप्नमीक्षितम्
Thus, the best of kings saw this in the realm of dreams; upon waking in the morning, he told the Brahmin the dream he had witnessed.
तच्छ्रुत्वा वाडवो धीमान्कथयामास विस्मितः । राजंस्त्वयासौ दृष्टो यः पुरुषोत्तमसंज्ञितः
Hearing this, the wise Brahmin from Vadava, astonished, began to speak: 'O king, the one you saw is called Purushottama.'
दास्यते शंखचक्रादिचिह्नितां स्वतनुं हरिः । इति श्रुत्वा तु तद्वाक्यं रत्नग्रीवो महामनाः
Hari will grant you his own form, marked with the conch, discus, and other symbols; hearing these words, Ratnagriva, of great mind,
दापयामास दानानि दीनानां मानसोचितम् । स्नात्वा गंगाब्धिसंयोगे तर्पयित्वा पितॄन्सुरान्
began to give gifts suitable to the hearts of the needy; after bathing at the confluence of the Ganga, he offered oblations to the ancestors and the gods.
गायन्हरिगुणग्रामं प्रत्यैक्षत च दर्शनम् । ततो मध्याह्नसमये दिविदुंदुभयो मुहुः
Singing the multitude of Hari's virtues, he awaited the vision; then, at midday, celestial drums resounded repeatedly.
जघ्नुः सुरकराघात बहुशब्दसुशब्दिताः । अकस्मात्पुष्पवृष्टिश्च बभूव नृपमस्तके
The hands of the gods struck the drums, producing many auspicious sounds; suddenly, a shower of flowers fell upon the king's head.
धन्योसि नृपवर्यस्त्वं नीलं पश्याक्षिगोचरम्
O foremost king, you are blessed—behold the blue mountain within the range of your sight.
शृणोतीति यदा वाक्यं नृपो देवप्रणोदितम् । तदा स सूर्यकोटीनामधिकांति धरोद्भुतः
When the king heard these words spoken by the gods, at that moment, a mountain arose, surpassing tens of millions of suns in brilliance.
राज्ञोऽक्षिगोचरो जातो नीलनामा महागिरिः । राजतैः कानकैः शृंगैः समंतात्परिराजितः
Before the king's eyes appeared the great mountain called Nila, adorned all around with peaks of silver and gold.
किमग्निः प्रज्वलत्येष द्वितीयः किमु भास्करः । किमयं वैद्युतः पुंजो ह्यकस्मात्स्थिरकांतिधृक्
Is this fire blazing? Is it a second sun? Is this a mass of lightning, suddenly radiant and steady?
तापस ब्राह्मणो दृष्ट्वा नीलप्रस्थं सुशोभितम् । राज्ञे निवेदयामास एष पुण्यो महागिरिः
The ascetic Brahmin, seeing the splendid Nila plateau, reported to the king: 'This is the holy great mountain.'
तच्छ्रुत्वा नृपतिश्रेष्ठः शिरसा प्रणनाम ह । धन्योऽस्मि कृतकृत्योऽस्मि नीलो मे दृष्टिगोचरः
Hearing this, the foremost king bowed his head and said: 'I am blessed, my purpose is fulfilled, for Nila is within my sight.'
अमात्यो राजपत्नी च करम्बस्तंतुवायकः । नीलदर्शनसंहृष्टा बभूवुः पुरुषर्षभ
The minister, the queen, the cook, and the weaver, O best of men, became joyful at the sight of Nila.
पंचैते विजये काले नीलपर्वतमारुहन् । महादुंदुभिनिर्घोषाञ्च्छृण्वन्तो ह्यमरैः कृतान्
These five, at the time of victory, ascended the Nila mountain, hearing the great sounds of celestial drums played by the gods.
तस्योपरितने शृंगे चित्रपादपराजिते । ददर्श हाटकाबद्धं देवालयमनुत्तमम्
On the summit of that mountain, adorned with wondrous footpaths, he saw an excellent temple bound with gold.
ब्रह्मागत्य सदा पूजां करोति परमेष्ठिनः । नैवेद्यं कुरुते यत्र हरिसंतोषकारकम्
There, Brahmā himself comes and always performs worship of the Supreme Lord, offering food that brings delight to Hari.
दृष्ट्वाथ तत्र विमलं देवायतनमुत्तमम् । प्रविवेश परीवारैः पंचभिः सह संवृतः
Seeing that pure and excellent temple, he entered within, surrounded by his five attendants.
तत्र दृष्ट्वा जातरूपे महामणिविचित्रिते । सिंहासने विराजंतं चतुर्भुजमनोहरम्
There he saw, upon a throne adorned with gold and great jewels, the enchanting four-armed Lord shining brilliantly.
