नमस्करोमि युष्मभ्यं महापापोपशांतये । इति वाक्यं समाकर्ण्य जगाद मुनिसत्तमः
I bow to you for the pacification of great sins; hearing these words, the best of sages spoke.
शत्रुघ्न तव कल्याणं भूयान्नरवरर्षभ । यज्ञं पालयमानस्य कीर्तिस्ते विपुला भवेत्
May well-being be yours, Shatrughna, bull among men; as you protect the sacrifice, may your fame become vast.
चित्रं पश्यत भो विप्रा रामोऽपि मखकारकः । यन्नामस्मरणादीनि कुर्वंति पापनाशनम्
Behold this wonder, O Brahmins: even Rama, the performer of sacrifices, by the remembrance of whose name, people perform acts that destroy sin.
महापातकसंयुक्ताः परदाररता नराः । यन्नामस्मरणोद्युक्ता मुक्ता यांति परां गतिम्
Men bound by great sins, those who delight in others' wives, if engaged in the remembrance of his name, are freed and attain the highest state.
पादपद्मसमुत्थेन रेणुना ग्रावमूर्तिभृत् । तत्क्षणाद्गौतमार्धांगी जाता मोहनरूपधृक्
By the dust arising from his lotus feet, borne in the form of a stone, Gautama’s half-bodied wife was instantly transformed, taking on an enchanting form.
मामकीयस्य रूपस्य ध्यानेन प्रेमनिर्भरा । सर्वपातकराशिं सा दग्ध्वा प्राप्ता सुरूपताम्
Through meditation on my form, filled with love, she burned away all heaps of sin and attained supreme beauty.
दैत्या यस्य मनोहारिरूपं प्रधनमण्डले । पश्यंतः प्रापुरेतस्य रूपं विकृतिवर्जितम्
The Daityas, seeing his captivating form in the great assembly, attained his form, free from deformity.
योगिनो ध्याननिष्ठा ये यं ध्यात्वा योगमास्थिताः । संसारभयनिर्मुक्ताः प्रयाताः परमं पदम्
Yogis, steadfast in meditation, who, having meditated on him, entered into yoga, became free from the fear of worldly existence and reached the supreme state.
धन्योऽहमद्य रामस्य मुखं द्रक्ष्यामि शोभनम् । पयोजदलनेत्रांतं सुनसं सुभ्रुसून्नतम्
Blessed am I today, for I will see the beautiful face of Rama, with eyes like lotus petals, a fine nose, and well-raised eyebrows.
सा जिह्वा रघुनाथस्य नामकीर्तनमादरात् । करोति विपरीता या फणिनो रसना समा
That tongue which, with devotion, sings the praises of Raghunatha’s name, is unlike the tongue of a serpent, which acts contrary.
अद्य प्राप्तं तपःपुण्यमद्य पूर्णा मनोरथाः । यद्द्रक्ष्ये रामचंद्रस्य मुखं ब्रह्मादिदुर्ल्लभम्
Today, the merit of my austerities is attained, today all my desires are fulfilled, for I will see the face of Ramachandra, which even Brahma and others rarely behold.
तत्पादरेणुना स्वांगं पवित्रं विदधाम्यहम् । विचित्रतरवार्ताभिः पावये रसनां स्वकाम्
With the dust of his feet, I purify my own body; with wondrous stories, I cleanse my own tongue.
इत्यादि रामचरणस्मरणप्रबुद्ध- प्रेमव्रजप्रसृतगद्गदवागुदश्रुः । श्रीरामचंद्र रघुपुंगवधर्ममूर्ते भक्तानुकंपकसमुद्धर संसृतेर्माम्
Thus, awakened by remembrance of Rama’s feet, with love flowing forth, his voice choked and tears streaming, he prayed: O Ramachandra, foremost of the Raghu line, embodiment of righteousness, uplifter of devotees, rescue me from the ocean of worldly existence.
जल्पन्नश्रुकलापूर्णो मुनीनां पुरतस्तदा । नाज्ञासीत्तत्र पारक्यं निजं ध्यानेन संस्थितः
Speaking thus, his face full of tears, before the sages, he did not perceive anything external, absorbed in his own meditation.
शत्रुघ्नस्तं मुनिं प्राह स्वामिन्नो मखसत्तमः । क्रियतां भवता पादरजसा सुपवित्रितः
Śatrughna spoke to the sage, saying: 'O master, O foremost among sacrificial priests, let the ritual be performed by you, purified with the dust of your feet.'
महद्भाग्यं रघुपतेर्यद्युष्मन्मानसांतरे । तिष्ठत्यसौ महाबाहुः सर्वलोकसुपूजितः
If the great fortune of Raghupati abides within your mind, then that mighty-armed one, honored by all worlds, remains here.
इत्युक्तः सपरीवारः सर्वाग्निपरिसंवृतः । जगाम च्यवनस्तत्र प्रमोदह्रदसंप्लुतः
Thus addressed, surrounded by his family and encircled by all the sacred fires, Cyavana proceeded there, immersed in a lake of delight.
हनूमांस्तं पदायांतं रामभक्तमवेक्ष्य ह । शत्रुघ्नं निजगादासौ वचो विनयसंयुतः
Hanuman, seeing that devotee of Rama approaching on foot, spoke to Śatrughna words filled with humility.
स्वामिन्कथयसि त्वं चेन्महापुरुषसुंदरम् । रामभक्तं मुनिवरं नयामि स्वपुरीमहम्
Master, if you speak of the beautiful greatness of this devotee of Rama, this eminent sage, then I shall bring him to my own city.
इति श्रुत्वा महद्वाक्यं कपिवीरस्य शत्रुहा । आदिदेश हनूमंतं गच्छ प्रापयतं मुनिम्
Hearing these noble words of the heroic monkey, Śatrughna commanded Hanuman: 'Go, bring the sage here.'
हनूमांस्तं मुनिं स्वीये पृष्ठ आरोप्य वेगवान् । सकुटुंबं निनायाशु वायुः ख इव सर्वगः
Hanuman, swift as the wind, placed the sage upon his own back and quickly carried him, along with his household, like the wind traversing the sky.
आगतं तं मुनिं दृष्ट्वा रामो मतिमतां वरः । अर्घ्यपाद्यादिकं चक्रे प्रीतः प्रणयविह्वलः
Seeing the sage arrive, Rama, best among the wise, joyfully performed the welcoming rites of water for washing feet and hands, overwhelmed with affection.
धन्योऽस्मि मुनिवर्यस्य दर्शनेन तवाधुना । पवित्रितो मखो मह्यं सर्वसंभारसंभृतः
I am blessed now by the sight of you, O eminent sage; my sacrifice is purified, furnished with all its required elements.
इति वाक्यं समाकर्ण्य च्यवनो मुनिसत्तमः । उवाच प्रेमनिर्भिन्न पुलकांगोऽतिनिर्वृतः
Hearing these words, Cyavana, the foremost sage, replied, his body thrilled with love and filled with supreme joy.
स्वामिन्ब्रह्मण्यदेवस्य तव वाडवपूजनम् । युक्तमेव महाराज धर्ममार्गं प्ररक्षितुः
Master, the worship of the fire for you, O king, who protects the path of righteousness, is indeed proper for the god devoted to Brahman.
शेष उवाच। शत्रुघ्नश्च्यवनस्याथ दृष्ट्वाऽचिंत्यं तपोबलम् । प्रशशंस तपो ब्राह्मं सर्वलोकैकवंदितम्
Śeṣa said: Śatrughna, seeing the unfathomable power of Cyavana's asceticism, praised the Brahmin's austerity, revered by all the worlds.
अहो पश्यत योगस्य सिद्धिं ब्राह्मणसत्तमे । यः क्षणादेव दुष्प्रापं तद्विमानमचीकरत्
Behold, O best of Brahmins, the accomplishment of yoga: he instantly created that celestial vehicle, which is otherwise difficult to attain.
क्व भोगसिद्धिर्महती मुनीनाममलात्मनाम् । क्व तपोबलहीनानां भोगेच्छा मनुजात्मनाम्
Where is the great attainment of enjoyment for sages of pure soul, and where is the desire for pleasure among men lacking the power of asceticism?
इति स्वगतमाशंसञ्छत्रुघ्नश्च्यवनाश्रमे । क्षणं स्थित्वा जलं पीत्वा सुखसंभोगमाप्तवान्
Thus, Śatrughna reflected to himself in Cyavana's hermitage; after staying for a moment and drinking water, he attained blissful enjoyment.
हयस्तस्याः पयोष्ण्याख्या नद्याः पुण्यजलात्मनः । पयः पीत्वा ययौ मार्गे वायुवेगगतिर्महान्
The horse drank the water of the river called Payoshṇī, whose waters are holy; after drinking, it proceeded swiftly along the path with great speed, like the wind.
