You have never seen or heard the path of righteousness; greed has become your mother, father, brother, and all your kin.
You have always upheld only greed, abandoning righteousness; therefore, you have become miserable, tormented by poverty.
Day by day, great craving arises in your heart; whenever wealth in your house increases, so does your desire.
Burned by desire, which is like fire, you think even more about greed, whether at night while asleep or awake.
Each day you are always occupied with great delusions: 'When will I have a thousand, a hundred thousand, a crore, or even ten crores?'
'When will I have a kharva or a nikharva in my house? Thus, a thousand, a hundred thousand, a crore, or even ten crores.'
Even when a kharva or nikharva is obtained, your craving does not subside; thus, abandoning time, your desire always grows.
You have never given, sacrificed, or enjoyed, O Brahmin; the wealth you buried in the earth, your sons do not know of.
For the sake of acquiring more wealth, you always seek out other means, O Brahmin, and question people everywhere, being clever.
You inquire about mining, alchemy, and the science of metals; deluded by craving, you wander alone.
You constantly contemplate all the ages that grant success, and you inquire about the entry of those with wondrous forms and about the wish-fulfilling gem.
You are burned by the fire of desire and do not attain happiness; inflamed by the fire of craving, you have become bewildered and unconscious.
In this way, O best of Brahmins, you have come under the sway of time, seeking after wealth for wife and sons as they ask you for it.
That wealth was neither spoken of nor given by you; abandoning your life, you went to Yama. Thus, I have told you your entire previous story.
By this action, O Brahmin, you have become poor and destitute. In this world, one whose sons are always devoted is truly wealthy.
Those whose children are virtuous, endowed with knowledge, and always devoted to truth and righteousness, such offspring are born in the house of one with whom Viṣṇu is pleased.
He enjoys wealth, grain, wife, and endless sons and grandsons in the mortal world, for whom Viṣṇu is gracious.
Without Viṣṇu's favor, O Brahmin, wives and sons are not obtained, nor is noble birth in a family; that supreme state belongs to Viṣṇu.

The sages said: O Sūta, most wise among Sūtas, may you live a hundred years! You have made us hear this meritorious account, beneficial to the world.

On the occasion of narrating righteousness, she humbly spoke to the Lord. The Earth said: These are the twelve months and three hundred and sixty days.
Of these, which is the most meritorious and dear to you, O Keśava? The month of Kārtika, when the sun is in Libra, is holy.
When the sun is in Capricorn, that month is called holy in the Purāṇas; when the sun is in Aries, the month of Mādhava is declared by the wise.
The month of Mārgaśīrṣa is also proclaimed as holy among the months; thus, these months are pure—what days among them are celebrated as holy?
The beginnings and ends of the ages, as well as the beginnings of the kalpas—above all these, tell me which month is most pure.
