तं भक्तिकामं पतितं धरण्यामायासितोस्मीति वदंतमुच्चैः । दंडप्रणामस्य भुजौ गृहीत्वा पस्पर्श हर्षोपचितेक्षणेन
Seeing him, devoted and fallen upon the earth, loudly declaring 'I am exhausted,' the Lord took his arms as he bowed, and touched him with eyes brimming with joy.
उवाच च प्रियारूपं लब्धवंतं शुकं हरिः । त्वं मे प्रियतमा भद्रे सदा तिष्ठ ममांतिके
Hari spoke to Śuka, who had attained a form pleasing to the Lord: 'You are most dear to me, O blessed one; always remain by my side.'
मद्रूपं चिंतयंती च प्रेमास्पदमुपागता । द्वे च मुख्यतमे गोप्यौ समानवयसी शुभे
Thinking upon my form, you have attained the abode of love; and two foremost gopīs, equal in age, O beautiful one.
एकव्रते एकनिष्ठे एकनक्षत्रनामनी । तप्तजांबूनदप्रख्या तत्रैवान्या तडित्प्रभा
Of single vow, single devotion, bearing the same star-name, one shines like molten gold, and another like the radiance of lightning.
एकानिद्रा यमाणाक्षी परा सौम्यायतेक्षणा । सोऽर्चयत्परया भक्त्या ते हरेः सव्यदक्षिणे
One, sleepless, with eyes like those of Yama, the other gentle, with expansive gaze; both worshipped Hari with supreme devotion, to his left and right.
स कल्पांते तनुं त्यक्त्वा गोकुलेऽभून्महात्मनः । उपनंदस्य दुहिता नीलोत्पलदलच्छविः
At the end of the age, she abandoned her body and was born in Gokula as the daughter of Upananda, her complexion like the petals of a blue lotus.
सेयं श्रीकृष्णवनिता पीतशाटीपरिच्छदा । रक्तचोलिकया पूर्णा शातकुंभघटस्तनी
She is that lady of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, adorned in yellow garments, her breasts full like golden pots, draped in a red cloth.
दधाना रक्तसिंदूरं सर्वांगस्यावगुंठनम् । स्वर्णकुंडलविभ्राजद्गंडदेशां सुशोभनाम्
Wearing red sindūra as a covering for her whole body, her cheeks shine beautifully with golden earrings.
स्वर्णपंकजमालाढ्या कुंकुमालिप्तसुस्तनी । यस्या हस्ते चर्वणीयं दृश्यते हरिणार्पितम्
Rich with a garland of golden lotuses, her breasts smeared with saffron, in whose hand is seen something to be eaten, offered by Hari.
वेणुवाद्यातिनिपुणा केशवस्य निषेवणी । कृष्णेन परितुष्टेन कदाचिद्गीतकर्मणि
Expert in playing the flute, serving Keśava, sometimes, when Kṛṣṇa is pleased, she performs the work of singing.
विन्यस्ता कंबुकंठेऽस्या भाति गुंजावलि शुभा । परोक्षेपि च कृष्णस्य कांतिभिश्च स्मरार्दिता
Upon her conch-like neck shines a beautiful string of guñjā beads; even when Kṛṣṇa is out of sight, she is tormented by longing for his radiance.
सखीभिर्वादयंतीभिर्गायंती सुस्वरं परम् । नर्त्तयेत्प्रियवेषेण वेषयित्वा वधूमिमाम्
With her companions playing music and singing melodiously, she dances in the attire of a beloved, dressing this bride.
वारंवारं च गोविंदं भावेनालिंग्य चुंबति । प्रियासौ सर्वगोपीनां कृष्णस्याप्यतिवल्लभा
Again and again she embraces and kisses Govinda with devotion; she is the dearest of all gopīs, and exceedingly beloved to Kṛṣṇa.
श्वेतकेतोः सुतः कश्चिद्वेदवेदांगपारगः । सर्वमेव परित्यज्य प्रचंडं तप आस्थितः
A certain son of Śvetaketu, accomplished in the Vedas and their branches, renounced everything and undertook fierce austerity.
मुरारेः सेवितपदां सुधामधुरनादिनीम् । गोविंदस्य प्रियां शक्तिं ब्रह्मरुद्रादिदुर्गमाम्
The beloved power of Govinda, whose feet are served by Murāri, whose voice is sweet as nectar, who is inaccessible to Brahma, Rudra, and others.
भजंतीमेकभावेन श्रियमेव मनोहराम् । ध्यायञ्जजाप सततं मंत्रमेकादशाक्षरम्
Worshipping her with single-minded devotion, contemplating only the enchanting Śrī, always reciting the eleven-syllable mantra.
हसितं सकलं कृत्वा बतमायेषु योजयन् । कांत्यादिभिर्हसंतीभिर्वासयंत्यभितो जगत्
Having made all things joyful, indeed connecting them to Māyā, she fills the world with radiant beings through beauty and other qualities.
वसंते वसतेत्येवं मंत्रार्थं चिंतयन्सदा । सोऽपि कल्पद्वयेनैव सिद्धोऽत्र जनिमाप्तवान्
Always reflecting on the meaning of the mantra, 'She dwells in spring,' he attained perfection in this birth by means of two kalpas.
सेयं बालायते पुत्री कृशांगी कुड्मलस्तनी । मुक्तावलिलसत्कंठी शुद्धकौशेयवासिनी
She appears as a young girl, slender-bodied, with budding breasts, adorned with a necklace of pearls, dressed in pure silk.
मुक्ताच्छुरितमंजीरकंकणांगदमुद्रिका । बिभ्रती कुंडले दिव्ये अमृतस्राविणी शुभे
Wearing anklets, bracelets, armlets, and rings studded with pearls, she bears divine earrings, beautiful and streaming with nectar.
वृत्तकस्तूरिकावेणी मध्ये सिंदूरबिंदुवत् । दधाना चित्रकं भाले सार्द्धं चंदनचित्रकैः
Her rounded braid is perfumed with musk, marked in the middle with a vermilion dot, and her forehead is decorated with designs together with sandalwood markings.
या सैव दृश्यते शांता जपंती परमं पदम् । आसीच्चंद्रप्रभो नाम राजर्षिः प्रियदर्शनः
She is seen, peaceful, reciting the supreme mantra; there was a royal sage named Candraprabha, pleasing in appearance.
तस्य कृष्णप्रसादेन पुत्रोऽभून्मधुराकृतिः । चित्रध्वज इति ख्यातः कौमारावधि वैष्णवः

स राजा सुसुतं सौम्यं सुस्थिरं द्वादशाब्दिकम् । आदेशयद्द्विजान्मंत्रं परमष्टादशाक्षरम्
That king instructed his gentle, steadfast son of twelve years to receive from the twice-born the supreme eighteen-syllable mantra.
अभिषिच्यमानः स शिशुर्मंत्रामृतमयैर्जलैः । तत्क्षणे भूपतिं प्रेम्णा नत्वोदश्रुप्रकल्पितः
As the boy was anointed with waters infused with mantra-nectar, he bowed to the king with love, tears welling up at that moment.
तस्मिन्दिने स वै बालः शुचिवस्त्रधरः शुचिः । हारनूपुरसूत्राद्यैर्ग्रैवेयांगदकंकणैः
On that day, the boy, pure and clad in clean garments, adorned with necklaces, anklets, threads, garlands, armlets, and bracelets.
विभूषितो हरेर्भक्तिमुपस्पृश्यामलाशयः । विष्णोरायतनं गत्वा स्थित्वैकाकी व्यचिंतयत्
Adorned thus, with pure intent, he touched the devotion of Hari, went to Viṣṇu's temple, and standing alone, reflected.
कथं भजामि तं भक्तं मोहनं गोपयोषिताम् । विक्रीडंतं सदा ताभिः कालिंदीपुलिने वने
How shall I worship that enchanting devotee, beloved of the cowherd women, who always plays with them on the banks of the Yamunā, in the forest?
इत्थमत्याकुलमतिश्चिंतयन्नेव बालकः । अथापपरमां विद्यां स्वप्नं च समवाप्यत
Thinking thus, his mind greatly troubled, the boy then attained the supreme knowledge and a vision in a dream.
आसीत्कृष्णप्रतिकृतिः पुरतस्तस्य शोभना । शिलामयी स्वर्णपीठे सर्वलक्षणलक्षिता
A beautiful image of Kṛṣṇa appeared before him, made of stone, seated on a golden throne, marked with all auspicious signs.
