Sin accumulated over millions of births is dissolved in a moment; by keeping vigil at night, with steadfastness and mastery over the senses.
He should be worshipped separately with fragrance, flowers, and offerings of food; thus, O Brāhmaṇa, whoever observes the Jayantī fast in this way—
Sin accumulated over millions of births, whether committed knowingly or unknowingly—
By the grace of Devakī’s son, half of it is destroyed; those base men who eat on the Jayantī day—
They consume the sin arising from the three worlds, there is no doubt; all the sacred places, including the ocean and places of liberation—
Remain in the home and throughout the body of one who observes the Jayantī vow; all the sacred places and deities reside in his body.
Whoever, with devotion, performs the Jayantī dedicated to Krishna, O great sage, I have not seen anything equal or superior to it in the Vedas or Purāṇas.
Neither equal nor greater than the Krishna-rādhāṣṭamī vow exists; whoever does not perform it with devotion becomes a cruel demon.
A man of deluded mind who eats on the Jayantī day, O twice-born, suffers in the great hell, just as on the day dedicated to Hari.
Whoever eats on Jayantī causes a hundred generations, past and future, of his lineage to fall into dreadful hell.
When Jayantī falls on a Wednesday together with Rohiṇī, O tiger among sages, what use are countless vows?
In the Kṛta, Tretā, Dvāpara, and Kali ages, when properly observed, Jayantī destroys sin.
Whoever recites the Purāṇa of Padmanābha during the vigil burns away sin accumulated since birth, like a heap of cotton.
Whoever listens with devotion to the Purāṇa on Hari’s day, his sin accumulated over millions of births perishes at that very moment.
On the day of Padmanabha, O sage, one should worship the reciter; having uplifted the lineage, he is honored in the realm of Vishnu.
If a man turns away from fasting on Jayanti, he is devoid of all righteousness and certainly goes to hell.
With fragrant flowers, incense, and lamps filled with ghee, one should worship with devotion and give a gift to a Brahmin.
O Brahmin, whoever performs Jayanti according to this method, by devotion, he delivers twenty-one persons.
There is no misfortune, no widowhood, no quarrel in the house; there is no discord among descendants, nor does he see loss of wealth.
Whatever desires the observer of Jayanti wishes to fulfill, he attains all of them and goes to the realm of Vishnu.
Those whose minds are always devoted to Vishnu and the Jayanti vow are blessed, noble, lordly, and learned.
Whatever holy places, vows, and disciplines there are, they do not equal even a sixteenth part of the day of Jayanti.
O child, whoever, with his wife, performs Radha-Krishna Ashtami in either fortnight of Bhadra, attains the presence of Hari.
Whoever always performs the vow and meritorious acts for Hari, the observer of Jayanti, goes to Vishnu's Vaikuntha.
Jayanti, beloved of Hari, quickly destroys the sins of one lacking conduct, fallen from lineage, without fame, or of bad birth.
The observer of Jayanti burns away all sins, even those equal to Mount Meru and including the killing of a Brahmin.
The observer of Jayanti obtains a son if desiring a son, wealth if desiring wealth, and liberation if desiring liberation.
Those whose minds are wholly intent on performing Jayanti, even Yama always fears them; they attain the highest state.
Suta said: Having narrated, Narada departed as he had come; I too have told you, O sage, what you asked of me from Brahma.
Those who listen to the glory of Jayanti with devotion also attain the supreme abode, freed from all sins.
