कन्यावसथमासाद्य नियतो नियताशनः (आवसथ्य)। मनोः प्रजापतेर्लोकानाप्नोति भरतर्षभ
Having reached the residence of the maidens, disciplined and with regulated food, one attains the worlds of Manu, the progenitor, O best of Bharatas.
कन्यायां ये प्रयच्छंति दानमण्वपि भारत । तदक्षयमिति प्राहुरृषयः संशितव्रताः
Those who give even a little charity at Kanya, O Bharata, the sages of firm vows declare that such charity is imperishable.
निष्ठावासं समासाद्य त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतम् । अश्वमेधमवाप्नोति विष्णुलोकं च गच्छति
Having reached Nishtha, renowned in the three worlds, one attains the fruit of an Ashvamedha sacrifice and goes to Vishnu's realm.
ये तु दानं प्रयच्छंति निष्ठायाः संगमे नराः । ते यांति नरशार्दूल ब्रह्मलोकमनामयम्
Those men who give charity at the confluence of Nishtha, O tiger among men, go to the flawless world of Brahma.
तत्राश्रमो वसिष्ठस्य त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतः । तत्राभिषेकं कुर्वाणो वाजपेयमवाप्नुयात्
There is the hermitage of Vasiṣṭha, renowned in all three worlds; whoever performs consecration there attains the fruit of the Vājapeya sacrifice.
देवकूटं समासाद्य देवर्षिगणसेवितम् । अश्वमेधमवाप्नोति कुलं चैव समुद्धरेत्
Upon reaching Devakūṭa, attended by hosts of divine sages, one attains the fruit of the Aśvamedha sacrifice and uplifts their lineage.
ततो गच्छेत राजेंद्र कौशिकस्य मुनेर्ह्रदम् । तत्र सिद्धिं परां प्राप विश्वामित्रोऽथ कौशिकः
Then, O king, proceed to the lake of the sage Kauśika; there, Viśvāmitra, also called Kauśika, attained supreme accomplishment.
यत्र मासं वसेद्धीरः कौशिक्यां भरतर्षभ । अश्वमेधस्य यत्पुण्यं तन्मासेनाधिगच्छति
Whoever, steadfast, dwells for a month at Kauśikī, O best of the Bharatas, gains in that month the merit equal to the Aśvamedha sacrifice.
सर्वतीर्थवरं चैव यो वसेत महाह्रदम् । न दुर्गतिमवाप्नोति विंद्याद्बहुसुवर्णकम्
Whoever resides at the great lake, the foremost among all sacred waters, never meets misfortune and finds abundant gold.
कुमारमभिगम्याथ वीराश्रमनिवासिनम् । अश्वमेधमवाप्नोति शक्रलोकं स गच्छति
Approaching the hermitage of the heroic prince, one attains the fruit of the Aśvamedha sacrifice and reaches the realm of Indra.
नंदिन्यां च समासाद्य कूपं त्रिदशसेवितम् । नरमेधस्य यत्पुण्यं तत्प्राप्नोति कुरूद्वह
Upon reaching the well at Nandinī, attended by the gods, O glory of the Kurus, one obtains the merit of the human sacrifice.
कालिकासंगमे स्नात्वा कौशिक्यारुणयोर्यतः । त्रिरात्रोपोषितो विद्वान्सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
Bathing at the confluence of Kālikā, Kauśikī, and Aruṇā, and fasting for three nights, the wise person is freed from all sins.
उर्वशीतीर्थमासाद्य तथा सोमाश्रमं बुधः । कुंभकर्णाश्रमे स्नात्वा पूज्यते भुवि मानवः
Upon reaching the Urvaśī sacred site and the hermitage of Soma, and bathing at the hermitage of Kumbhakarṇa, a person is honored on earth.
तथा कोकामुखे स्नात्वा ब्रह्मचारी समाहितः । जातिस्मरत्वं प्राप्नोति दृष्टमेतत्पुरातनैः
Likewise, bathing at Kokāmukha, the devoted celibate attains remembrance of previous births; this has been witnessed by the ancients.
सकृन्नदीं समासाद्य कृतार्थो भवति द्विजः । सर्वपापविशुद्धात्मा स्वर्गलोकं च गच्छति
By merely approaching the river once, the twice-born becomes fulfilled, purified from all sins, and attains the heavenly realm.
ऋषभद्वीपमासाद्य सेव्य क्रौंचनिषूदनम् । सरस्वत्यामुपस्पृश्य विमानस्थो विराजते
Upon reaching Ṛṣabhadvīpa and serving the slayer of Krauṃca, and touching the waters of Sarasvatī, one shines, seated in a celestial vehicle.
औद्यानकं महाराज तीर्थं मुनिनिषेवितम् । तत्राभिषेकं कुर्वीत सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
O great king, at the sacred site of Audyānaka, attended by sages, one should perform ablutions there and is freed from all sins.
ब्रह्मतीर्थं समासाद्य पुण्यं ब्रह्मर्षिसेवितम् । वाजपेयमवाप्नोति नरो नास्त्यत्र संशयः
Upon reaching Brahmatīrtha, sanctified by the merit of Brahmarṣis, one attains the fruit of the Vājapeya sacrifice; there is no doubt about this.
ततश्चंपां समासाद्य भागीरथ्यां कृतोदकः । दंडार्पणं समासाद्य गोसहस्रफलं लभेत्
Then, upon reaching Campā and performing water rites at Bhāgīrathī, and arriving at Daṇḍārpaṇa, one obtains the reward of a thousand cows.
लाविढिकां ततो गच्छेत्पुण्यां पुण्यनिषेविताम् । वाजपेयमवाप्नोति विमानस्थश्च पूज्यते
Afterwards, one should go to Lāviḍhikā, sanctified by merit and attended by the virtuous; one attains the fruit of the Vājapeya sacrifice and, seated in a celestial vehicle, is honored.
नारद उवाच- अथ संध्यां समासाद्य स विद्यांतीर्थमुत्तमम् । उपस्पृश्य नरो विद्वान्भवेन्नास्त्यत्र संशयः
Nārada said: Then, upon reaching Saṃdhyā, the supreme sacred site of knowledge, and touching its waters, a person becomes wise; there is no doubt about this.
रामस्य च प्रसादेन तीर्थराजं कृतं पुरा । तल्लौहित्यं समासाद्य विंद्याद्बहुसुवर्णकम्
By the grace of Rāma, the king of sacred sites was established long ago; upon reaching that Lauhitya, one finds abundant gold.
करतोयां समासाद्य त्रिरात्रोपोषितो नरः । अश्वमेधमवाप्नोति शक्रलोकं च गच्छति
A man who, having reached the Karatoya river, fasts for three nights attains the fruit of an Ashvamedha sacrifice and goes to the realm of Indra.
गंगायास्त्वथ राजेंद्र सागरस्य च संगमे । अश्वमेधं दशगुणं प्रवदंति मनीषणः
O king, at the confluence of the Ganga and the ocean, the wise declare the merit to be ten times that of an Ashvamedha sacrifice.
गंगायास्तु परं द्वीपं प्राप्य यः स्नाति भारत । त्रिरात्रोपोषितो राजन्सर्वकाममवाप्नुयात्
O Bharata, whoever, after reaching the supreme island of the Ganga, bathes there and fasts for three nights, attains all desired objects.
ततो वैतरणीं गत्वा नदीं पापप्रमोचनीम् । विरजं तीर्थमासाद्य विराजति यथा शशी
Then, having gone to the Vaitarani river, which releases from sin, and reached the pure Viraja tirtha, one shines like the moon.
प्रभावे च कुलं पूत्वा सर्वपापं व्यपोहति । गोसहस्रफलं लब्ध्वा पुनाति स्वकुलं नरः
By its power, purifying his lineage, he removes all sin; having obtained the fruit of a thousand cows, a man sanctifies his own family.
शोणस्य ज्योतिरथ्याश्च संगमे निवसञ्छुचिः । तर्पयित्वा पितॄन्देवानग्निष्टोमफलं लभेत्
Dwelling in purity at the confluence of the Shona and Jyotirathya rivers, after offering oblations to ancestors and gods, one obtains the fruit of an Agnishtoma sacrifice.
शोणस्य नर्मदायाश्च प्रभवे कुरुपुंगव । वंशगुल्ममुपस्पृश्य वाजिमेधफलं लभेत्
O foremost of the Kurus, at the source of the Shona and Narmada rivers, after touching the bamboo thicket, one obtains the fruit of a Vajimedha sacrifice.
ऋषभं तीर्थमासाद्य कोशलायां नराधिप । वाजिमेधमवाप्नोति त्रिरात्रोपोषितो नरः
O king, having reached the Rishabha tirtha in Kosala, a man who fasts for three nights attains the fruit of a Vajimedha sacrifice.
