तस्मिंस्तीर्थे महाराज पद्मलक्षणलक्षिताः । अद्यापि मुद्रा दृश्यंते तदद्भुतमरिंदम
At that holy place, O great king, marks bearing the sign of the lotus are still seen even today; that is truly wondrous, O subduer of enemies.
त्रिशूलांकानि पद्मानि दृश्यंते कुरुनंदन । महादेवस्य सान्निध्यं तत्रैव भरतर्षभ
Trident marks and lotuses are seen there, O delight of the Kurus; there is the presence of Mahādeva himself, O best of the Bharatas.
सागरस्य च सिंधोश्च संगमं प्राप्य भारत । तीर्थे सलिलराजस्य स्नात्वा प्रयतमानसः
Having reached the confluence of the ocean and the river Sindhu, O Bhārata, and bathing with a pure mind at the holy place of the lord of waters,
तर्पयित्वा पितॄन्देवानृषींश्च भरतर्षभ । प्राप्नोति वारुणं लोकं दीप्यमानः स्वतेजसा
Having satisfied the ancestors, the gods, and the sages, O best of the Bharatas, one attains the world of Varuṇa, shining with one's own brilliance.
शंकुकर्णेश्वरं देवमर्चयित्वा युधिष्ठिर । अश्वमेधं दशगुणं प्रवदंति मनीषिणः
Having worshipped the god Śaṃkukarṇeśvara, O Yudhiṣṭhira, the wise declare that one obtains merit ten times that of an Aśvamedha sacrifice.
प्रदक्षिणमुपावृत्य गच्छेत भरतर्षभ । तीर्थं कुरुवरश्रेष्ठ त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतम्
Having circumambulated, one should go, O best of the Bharatas, to the holy place renowned in the three worlds, O foremost of the Kurus.
तिमीति नाम्ना विख्यातं सर्वपापप्रमोचनम् । यत्र शक्रादयो देवा उपासंते महेश्वरम्
Known by the name Timī, it is famed as the remover of all sins; there, Indra and the other gods worship Maheśvara.
तत्र स्नात्वार्चयित्वा च रुद्रं देवगणैर्वृतम् । जन्मप्रभृति पापानि कृतानि नुदते नरः
There, by bathing and worshipping Rudra, surrounded by hosts of gods, a man casts off all sins committed since birth.
तिमिरत्र नरश्रेष्ठ सर्वदेवैरभिष्टुतः । तत्र स्नात्वा नरश्रेष्ठ हयमेधमवाप्नुयात्
There, O best of men, Timī is praised by all the gods; by bathing there, O best of men, one attains the fruit of the horse sacrifice.
जित्वा तत्र महाप्राज्ञ विष्णुना दितिनंदनम् । पुरा शौचं कृतं राजन्हत्वा दैवतकंटकान्
There, O wise one, Viṣṇu once defeated the son of Diti; in ancient times, having slain the tormentors of the gods, he established purity, O king.

Then, O knower of dharma, one should go to Vasudhārā, which is highly praised; merely by going there, one attains the fruit of the horse sacrifice.
स्नात्वा कुरुवरश्रेष्ठ प्रयतात्मा तु मानवः । तर्पयित्वा पितॄन्देवान्विष्णुलोके महीयते
By bathing there, O best of the Kurus, with a pure mind, and having satisfied the ancestors and the gods, a man is honored in the world of Viṣṇu.
तीर्थं चापि परं तत्र वसूनां भरतर्षभ । तत्र स्नात्वा च पीत्वा च वसूनां संमतो भवेत्
There is also a supreme holy place of the Vasus, O best of the Bharatas; by bathing and drinking there, one becomes favored by the Vasus.
सिंधुतममिति ख्यातं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम् । तत्र स्नात्वा नरश्रेष्ठ लभेद्बहुसुवर्णकम्
It is known as Siṃdhutama, the destroyer of all sins; by bathing there, O best of men, one gains abundant gold.
ब्रह्मतुंगं समासाद्य शुचिः प्रयतमानसः । ब्रह्मलोकमवाप्नोति सुकृती विरजा नरः
Having reached Brahmatuṅga, pure and with a focused mind, a virtuous man, free from stain, attains the world of Brahmā.
कुमारिकाणां शक्रस्य तीर्थं सिद्धनिषेवितम् । तत्र स्नात्वा नरश्रेष्ठ शक्रलोकमवाप्नुयात्
The holy place of the maidens of Indra, frequented by the perfected beings, is there; by bathing there, O best of men, one attains the world of Indra.
रेणुकायाश्च तत्रैव तीर्थं देवनिषेवितम् । स्नात्वा तत्र भवेद्विप्रो विमलश्चंद्रमा इव
There also is the sacred bathing place of Reṇukā, revered by the gods; by bathing there, a brāhmaṇa becomes pure, like the spotless moon.
अथ पंचनदं गत्वा नियतो नियताशनः । पंचयज्ञानवाप्नोति क्रमशो ये तु कीर्तिताः
Then, going to Pañcanada, disciplined and moderate in food, one gradually attains the merit of the five sacrifices that have been proclaimed.
ततो गच्छेत धर्मज्ञ भीमायाः स्थानमुत्तमम् । तत्र स्नात्वा न योन्यां वै नरो भरतसत्तम
After that, O knower of dharma, one should proceed to the supreme place of Bhīmā; bathing there, O best of the Bharatas, a man is not born from a womb again.
देव्याः पुत्रो भवेद्राजन्तत्र कुंडलविग्रहः । गवां शतसहस्रस्य फलं चैवाप्नुयान्महत्
There, the son of the goddess, bearing earrings, is a king; one attains the great fruit equal to a hundred thousand cows.
गिरिकुंजं समासाद्य त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतम् । पितामहं नमस्कृत्य गोसहस्रफलं लभेत्
Reaching Girikuñja, renowned in the three worlds, and bowing to the Grandsire, one obtains the fruit of a thousand cows.
ततो गच्छेत धर्मज्ञ विमलं तीर्थमुत्तमम् । अद्यापि यत्र दृश्यंते मत्स्याः सौवर्णराजताः
Then, O knower of dharma, one should go to the excellent, pure bathing place, where even today golden and silver fish are seen.
तत्र स्नात्वा नरश्रेष्ठ वाजपेयमवाप्नुयात् । सर्वपापविशुद्धात्मा गच्छेत्परमिकां गतिम्
Bathing there, O best of men, one attains the merit of a Vājapeya sacrifice; with a mind purified from all sins, one reaches the highest state.
नारदउवाच-। वितस्तां च समासाद्य संतर्प्य पितृदेवताः । नरः फलमवाप्नोति वाजपेयस्य भारत
Nārada said: Coming to the Vitastā and satisfying the ancestors and gods, a man attains the fruit of a Vājapeya sacrifice, O Bhārata.
काश्मीरेष्वेव नागस्य भवनं तक्षकस्य च । वितस्ताख्यमिति ख्यातं सर्वपापप्रमोचनम्
In Kashmir itself is the abode of the serpent, Takṣaka, known as Vitastā; it is famed as a place that frees from all sins.
तत्र स्नात्वा नरो नूनं वाजपेयमवाप्नुयात् । सर्वपापविशुद्धात्मा गच्छेत परमां गतिम्
Bathing there, a man certainly attains the merit of a Vājapeya sacrifice; with a mind cleansed of all sins, he reaches the supreme state.
ततो गच्छेत मलदं त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतम् । पश्चिमायां तु संध्यायामुपस्पृश्य यथाविधि
Then one should go to Malada, renowned in the three worlds, and at the evening twilight, perform the prescribed ablution.
चरुं सप्तार्चिषे राजन्यथाशक्ति निवेदयेत् । पितॄणामक्षयं दानं प्रवदंति मनीषिणः
A king should offer, according to his ability, a rice oblation to the Seven-flamed (Agni); the wise declare this as an imperishable gift to the ancestors.
गवांशतसहस्रेण राजसूयशतेन च । अश्वमेधसहस्रेण श्रेयान्सप्तार्चिषश्चरुः
The rice oblation to the Seven-flamed is superior to the gift of a hundred thousand cows, a hundred Rājasūya sacrifices, or a thousand Aśvamedha sacrifices.
ततो निवृत्तो राजेंद्र रुद्रास्पदमथाविशेत् । अभिगम्य महादेवमश्वमेधफलं लभेत्
Then, having completed this, O king, one should enter the abode of Rudra; approaching Mahādeva, one obtains the fruit of an Aśvamedha sacrifice.
