Service to Janardana’s feet indeed grants liberation from rebirth, while service to the yoni of women brings only the distress of the womb.
Again and again one falls into the womb, as if pressed by a machine; yet one desires the same again—know this to be the mockery of fate.
With arms raised I declare—hear my supreme word: place your heart in Govinda, not in the tormenting yoni.
Whoever, abandoning association with women, turns away, attains at every step the fruit of an Ashvamedha sacrifice.
If, by divine arrangement, a virtuous woman is married to a man and bears a son, he should then renounce association with her.
Of such a one, the Lord of the universe is pleased—there is no doubt; for the wise declare that association with women is association with the unworthy.
While that exists, firm devotion to Hari does not arise; renouncing all association, one should cultivate devotion to Hari.
Devotion to Hari is rare in this world and the next, so I believe; whoever has devotion to Hari is fulfilled, without doubt.
One should perform only those actions by which Hari is pleased; when He is satisfied, the world is satisfied—when He is pleased, the world is pleased.
Without devotion to Hari, a person’s birth is said to be in vain; even Brahma, Shiva, and the gods worship Him for the sake of love.
Who would not serve Narayana, the unmanifest? His mother is most blessed, his father truly great.
He who holds the twin feet of Janardana in his heart—Janardana, worshipped by the world, is compassionate to those who take refuge.
Those mortals who act thus do not go to hell; for especially in the form of a brāhmaṇa, Hari is directly present.
If they worship properly, Hari is pleased with them; Viṣṇu, in the form of a brāhmaṇa, wanders this earth.
Without a brāhmaṇa, indeed, no action attains success; those who, with devotion, drink the water from a twice-born's feet and place it on their head—
By that, the ancestors are satisfied, and the self is also surely delivered; whatever is sweetly offered and worshipped in the mouth of brāhmaṇas—
That which is given directly into the mouth of Kṛṣṇa, Hari himself truly consumes; how rare are the worlds where Keśava is manifest in a brāhmaṇa!
People serve images and the like, but in their absence, that act is performed; because of the presence of brāhmaṇas, the earth is called blessed.
Whatever is given into their hand is offered into the hand of Hari; by bowing to them, the stain of sin is cast aside.
One is freed from sins such as brahmahatyā by saluting the brāhmaṇas; therefore, a brāhmaṇa should be worshipped as Viṣṇu by the virtuous.
If anything at all is given into the mouth of a hungry twice-born, after death, for ten million aeons, he is sprinkled with streams of nectar.
The mouth of a twice-born is a great field, without thorns or impurity; whatever is sown there yields fruit a hundred million times over.
Having given him food with ghee, he enjoys happiness for an aeon; whoever gives various delicious foods to please a twice-born—
For him, there are worlds of great enjoyment, granting liberation at the end of a hundred million aeons; having honored a brāhmaṇa, and with a brāhmaṇa reciting—
He should always listen to the Purāṇa, which is the great fire consuming great sins; among all holy places, the Purāṇa is said to be the highest.
By hearing even a quarter of a foot, Hari is indeed pleased; just as Hari, taking the form of the sun, moves about to give light—
For the illumination of all the worlds, Hari is the cause of their seeing; in the same way, for inner illumination, Hari is a portion of the Purāṇa.
The Purāṇa, the supreme purifier, moves among beings here; therefore, if one sets their mind on producing the pleasure of Hari—
The Purāṇa, in the form of Kṛṣṇa, should be heard constantly by people; even for a peaceful devotee of Viṣṇu, it is difficult to hear.
The narration of the Purāṇa is pure and supremely purifying; in which Hari, in the form of Vyāsa, has gathered the meaning of the Vedas.
