तत्राश्रमो वसिष्ठस्य त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतः । तत्राभिषेकं कुर्वाणो वाजपेयमवाप्नुयात्
There is the hermitage of Vasiṣṭha, famed in the three worlds; performing an abhiṣeka there, one attains the fruit of a Vājapeya sacrifice.
देवकूटं समासाद्य देवर्षिगणसेवितम् । अश्वमेधमवाप्नोति कुलं चैव समुद्धरेत्
Reaching Devakūṭa, attended by hosts of divine sages, one attains the fruit of an Aśvamedha sacrifice and uplifts one's lineage.
ततो गच्छेत राजेंद्र कौशिकस्य मुनेर्ह्रदम् । तत्र सिद्धिं परां प्राप विश्वामित्रोऽथ कौशिकः
Then, O king, one should go to the lake of the sage Kauśika; there Viśvāmitra, also called Kauśika, attained supreme accomplishment.
यत्र मासं वसेद्धीरः कौशिक्यां भरतर्षभ । अश्वमेधस्य यत्पुण्यं तन्मासेनाधिगच्छति
Where a steadfast person dwells for a month on the Kauśikī, O best of the Bharatas, he attains the merit of an Aśvamedha sacrifice in that month.
सर्वतीर्थवरं चैव यो वसेत महाह्रदम् । न दुर्गतिमवाप्नोति विंद्याद्बहुसुवर्णकम्
And whoever dwells at the great lake, the best of all holy places, does not fall into misfortune and finds much gold.
कुमारमभिगम्याथ वीराश्रमनिवासिनम् । अश्वमेधमवाप्नोति शक्रलोकं स गच्छति
Approaching the Kumāra, who dwells in the hermitage of heroes, one attains the fruit of an Aśvamedha sacrifice and goes to the world of Indra.
नंदिन्यां च समासाद्य कूपं त्रिदशसेवितम् । नरमेधस्य यत्पुण्यं तत्प्राप्नोति कुरूद्वह
And reaching the well at Nandinī, attended by the gods, one obtains the merit of a human sacrifice, O best of the Kurus.
कालिकासंगमे स्नात्वा कौशिक्यारुणयोर्यतः । त्रिरात्रोपोषितो विद्वान्सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
Bathing at the confluence of Kālikā, Kauśikī, and Araṇya, and fasting for three nights, the wise person is freed from all sins.
उर्वशीतीर्थमासाद्य तथा सोमाश्रमं बुधः । कुंभकर्णाश्रमे स्नात्वा पूज्यते भुवि मानवः
Approaching the holy place of Urvaśī and likewise the hermitage of Soma, and bathing at the hermitage of Kumbhakarṇa, a person is honored on earth.
तथा कोकामुखे स्नात्वा ब्रह्मचारी समाहितः । जातिस्मरत्वं प्राप्नोति दृष्टमेतत्पुरातनैः
Likewise, bathing at Kokāmukha, a devoted celibate attains remembrance of past births; this has been witnessed by the ancients.
सकृन्नदीं समासाद्य कृतार्थो भवति द्विजः । सर्वपापविशुद्धात्मा स्वर्गलोकं च गच्छति
By approaching the river even once, a twice-born becomes fulfilled, his soul purified of all sins, and he goes to the heavenly world.
ऋषभद्वीपमासाद्य सेव्य क्रौंचनिषूदनम् । सरस्वत्यामुपस्पृश्य विमानस्थो विराजते
Reaching Ṛṣabhadvīpa and worshipping the slayer of Krauñca, after touching the Sarasvatī, one shines, seated in a celestial chariot.
औद्यानकं महाराज तीर्थं मुनिनिषेवितम् । तत्राभिषेकं कुर्वीत सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
O great king, the Audyanaka is a holy place frequented by sages; whoever performs ablution there is freed from all sins.
ब्रह्मतीर्थं समासाद्य पुण्यं ब्रह्मर्षिसेवितम् । वाजपेयमवाप्नोति नरो नास्त्यत्र संशयः
Having reached the sacred Brahmatirtha, honored by Brahmarshis, a person attains the merit of a Vajapeya sacrifice—of this there is no doubt.
ततश्चंपां समासाद्य भागीरथ्यां कृतोदकः । दंडार्पणं समासाद्य गोसहस्रफलं लभेत्
Then, arriving at Champa and performing oblations in the Bhagirathi, and reaching Dandarpana, one obtains the fruit of gifting a thousand cows.
लाविढिकां ततो गच्छेत्पुण्यां पुण्यनिषेविताम् । वाजपेयमवाप्नोति विमानस्थश्च पूज्यते
Next, one should go to Lavidhika, a holy place revered by the virtuous; there, one attains the merit of a Vajapeya sacrifice and is honored while dwelling in a celestial chariot.
नारद उवाच- अथ संध्यां समासाद्य स विद्यांतीर्थमुत्तमम् । उपस्पृश्य नरो विद्वान्भवेन्नास्त्यत्र संशयः
Narada said: Then, upon reaching Sandhya, that supreme place of knowledge, and performing purification, a person becomes wise—there is no doubt about this.
रामस्य च प्रसादेन तीर्थराजं कृतं पुरा । तल्लौहित्यं समासाद्य विंद्याद्बहुसुवर्णकम्
By the grace of Rama, the king of holy places was established long ago; upon reaching that Lauhitya, one finds much gold.
करतोयां समासाद्य त्रिरात्रोपोषितो नरः । अश्वमेधमवाप्नोति शक्रलोकं च गच्छति
Arriving at the Karatoya and fasting for three nights, a person attains the fruit of an Ashvamedha sacrifice and goes to the world of Indra.
गंगायास्त्वथ राजेंद्र सागरस्य च संगमे । अश्वमेधं दशगुणं प्रवदंति मनीषणः
O king, at the confluence of the Ganga and the ocean, the wise declare the merit to be ten times that of an Ashvamedha sacrifice.
गंगायास्तु परं द्वीपं प्राप्य यः स्नाति भारत । त्रिरात्रोपोषितो राजन्सर्वकाममवाप्नुयात्
O Bharata, whoever, after reaching the far island of the Ganga, bathes there and fasts for three nights, attains all desired objects.
ततो वैतरणीं गत्वा नदीं पापप्रमोचनीम् । विरजं तीर्थमासाद्य विराजति यथा शशी
Then, going to the Vaitarani river, which frees from sin, and reaching the Viraja tirtha, one shines like the moon.
प्रभावे च कुलं पूत्वा सर्वपापं व्यपोहति । गोसहस्रफलं लब्ध्वा पुनाति स्वकुलं नरः
By its power, one purifies the lineage and removes all sin; having obtained the fruit of gifting a thousand cows, a person sanctifies their own family.
शोणस्य ज्योतिरथ्याश्च संगमे निवसञ्छुचिः । तर्पयित्वा पितॄन्देवानग्निष्टोमफलं लभेत्
Dwelling in purity at the confluence of the Shona and Jyotirathya rivers, and offering libations to ancestors and gods, one attains the fruit of an Agnishtoma sacrifice.
शोणस्य नर्मदायाश्च प्रभवे कुरुपुंगव । वंशगुल्ममुपस्पृश्य वाजिमेधफलं लभेत्
O best of the Kurus, at the source of the Shona and Narmada rivers, by touching the bamboo grove, one obtains the fruit of a Vajimedha sacrifice.
ऋषभं तीर्थमासाद्य कोशलायां नराधिप । वाजिमेधमवाप्नोति त्रिरात्रोपोषितो नरः
O ruler of men, upon reaching the Rishabha tirtha in Kosala and fasting for three nights, a person attains the fruit of a Vajimedha sacrifice.
कोशलायां समासाद्य कालतीर्थमुपस्पृशेत् । वृषभैकादशगुणं लभते नात्र संशयः
Arriving at Kosala, one should purify oneself at the Kala tirtha; there, one obtains eleven times the merit of the Vrishabha sacrifice—of this there is no doubt.
पुष्पवत्यामुपस्पृश्य त्रिरात्रोपोषितो नरः । गोसहस्रफलं विंद्यात्कुलं चैव समुद्धरेत्
By purifying oneself in the Pushpavati and fasting for three nights, a person attains the fruit of gifting a thousand cows and uplifts their family.
ततो बदारिकातीर्थे स्नात्वा प्रयतमानसः । दीर्घायुष्यमवाप्नोति स्वर्गलोकं च गच्छति
Then, bathing at the Badarika tirtha with a focused mind, one attains long life and goes to the heavenly world.
ततो महेंद्रमासाद्य जामदग्न्यनिषेवितम् । रामतीर्थे नरः स्नात्वा वाजिमेधफलं लभेत्
Then, reaching Mahendra, frequented by Jamadagni's son, by bathing at Rama tirtha, a person attains the fruit of a Vajimedha sacrifice.
