The ancestors of those who daily drink water from the Śālagrāma stone remain satisfied in heaven for a hundred aeons.
What is the use of performing service with a thousand offerings of pañcagavya, or with a thousand crores of holy pilgrimages?
If one drinks the sacred water that has touched the Śālagrāma stone, wherever the Śālagrāma stone is present, that place is a holy site for three yojanas around.
There, any gift or oblation becomes a crore times more fruitful; whoever drinks even a drop of water from the Śālagrāma stone attains this.
A person who partakes of Viṣṇu's share near the Śālagrāma stone, within a krośa in all directions, never drinks mother's milk again.
Even an insect that dies there attains the supreme abode of Vaikuṇṭha; whoever gives the disc of the Śālagrāma stone as a supreme gift—
By that, the earth's disc, along with its mountains, forests, and groves, is given; whoever assigns a price to the Śālagrāma stone—
The seller, the approver, and whoever delights in examining it—all of them go to hell until the end of creation.
Therefore, a merchant should avoid buying and selling the disc; what is the use of many words? The merchant should act with fear of sin.
The remembrance of Vāsudeva, Hari, destroys all sins; a man who performs austerity in a dreadful forest with controlled senses—
The fruit he attains by bowing to the Garuḍa-emblemed Lord is the same; even if a man, deluded, commits much sin—
He does not go to hell if, after going to Hari, the destroyer of all sins; all the holy places and sacred shrines on earth—
All these are attained by the repeated chanting of Viṣṇu's names; those who take refuge in Viṣṇu, the bearer of the Śārṅga bow—
They do not see Yama's realm, nor do they dwell in hell; but a Vaiṣṇava who slanders Śiva—
He does not attain the Vaiṣṇava world; he goes to great hell. Even by observing a single Ekādaśī fast, even incidentally—
A man does not undergo the torments of Yama—thus it is heard from the hundred-haired one. Nothing so purifying exists in the three worlds.
Both days of Padmanābha destroy sins; O Viśāṃvara, sins remain in this body only until one observes the auspicious day of Padmanābha.
A thousand Aśvamedha sacrifices and a hundred Rājasūya sacrifices—
Not even sixteen parts can compare to the merit of fasting on Ekadashi; all the sins committed by men and merchants with their eleven senses are destroyed.
By fasting on Ekadashi, all those sins are dissolved; there is nothing in this world equal in merit to Ekadashi.
Even if observed with some pretext, this vow brings one under the dominion of the sun; it bestows heaven and liberation, and grants health to the body.
It surely grants a good wife and living sons; neither the Ganga, nor Gaya, nor Kashi, nor Pushkara can compare.
Nor can any Vaishnava holy place be equal to the day of Hari; not even the Yamuna or Chandrabhaga can compare to the day of Hari.
By which, without effort, the Vaishnava abode is attained here—by keeping vigil at night and fasting on the day of Hari.
Ten paternal ancestors, ten maternal ancestors, and ten of the beloved's ancestors are certainly liberated, O merchant.
Those who have abandoned attachment to pairs, are not householders, have made their home elsewhere, adorned with garlands and yellow garments, go to the abode of Hari.
Whether in childhood, youth, or old age, O lord of men, one who has fasted on Ekadashi certainly does not go to a terrible fate.
By fasting here for three nights, or by bathing at a holy place, and by giving gold and sesame, people attain heaven here.
Those who do not bathe at holy places, who do not give gold, and who have not performed any austerity, are always afflicted everywhere.
In summary, the law and the description of hell have been told: non-injury to all beings by speech, mind, body, and actions.
