By the grace of Mahadeva, he attains the supreme state, having circumambulated, O best of the Bharatas.
Narada said: Thereafter, O king, one should go to the excellent holy place of Kalindi; bathing there, O king, a man does not attain a bad fate.
Whatever fruit a man obtains at Pushkara, Kurukshetra, Brahmavarta, Prithudaka, Avimukta, or the place called Suvarna—
That same fruit is obtained at the Yamuna, O best of men, by those whose minds are attached to the enjoyment of heaven and pleasure.
Especially by bathing and giving gifts at the Yamuna, O noble one, one attains long life, health, prosperity, beauty, youth, and good qualities.
For those whose desires are thus, the water of the Yamuna should never be abandoned; those who fear hell and poverty are indeed here.
Therefore, by all means and with effort, one should immerse there, for the washing away of poverty, sin, misfortune, and the mire of adversity.
Except for the water of the Yamuna, there is no other, O Yudhishthira; actions done without faith are considered to yield only half the result, but bathing in the Yamuna alone gives the full fruit.
Whether without desire or with desire, O king, one who bathes in the water of the Yamuna does not experience suffering here or hereafter.
Just as the moon wanes and waxes in both fortnights, so too, by bathing there, sin is destroyed and merit increases.
Just as various jewels easily come forth from the ocean, so too, long life, wealth, wives, and prosperity arise from it.
Just as the wish-fulfilling cow grants desires and the wish-gem fulfills thoughts, so too does bathing in the Yamuna grant all cherished wishes.
In the Krita age, austerity was supreme; in Treta, sacrifice; in Dvapara, charity; but Kalindi is always auspicious.
For all people, of all castes and stages of life, O king, bathing in the Yamuna truly showers righteousness like a stream.
Indeed, in this land of Bharata, especially in the realm of action, the birth of those who do not bathe in the Kalindi is declared fruitless.
Just as there is no sovereignty in the sky, nor light in the dark half of the moon, so too, good deeds do not shine without bathing in the Yamuna.
Hari is not pleased so much by vows, gifts, or austerities as he is by merely bathing in that river; thus, Kesava is delighted.
There is nothing equal to the radiance of the sun; in the same way, the acts produced by sacrifices are not equal to bathing in the Yamuna.
For the pleasure of Vasudeva and the removal of all sins, a person should bathe in the Kalindi to attain heaven.
What is the use of preserving the body, even if it is well-nourished and strong, when it is unstable and without bathing in the Yamuna?
A pillar of bones, bound by sinews, smeared with flesh and blood, covered with skin, foul-smelling, and filled with urine and excrement—
Afflicted by old age, sorrow, misfortune, and disease, the body is a house of illness, unstable, rooted in passion, and the abode of all faults.
Inclined to harming others, sinful, afflicted by suffering, hostile, envious, greedy, slanderous, cruel, ungrateful, and fleeting—
Harsh, difficult to control, wicked, corrupted by the three faults, impure, foul-smelling, deluded by the threefold miseries—
By nature devoted to unrighteousness, overwhelmed by hundreds of desires, filled with great lust, anger, and greed, stationed at the gates of hell—
Subject to worms and filth, destined for ashes and the like—such a body is indeed wasted without bathing in the Yamuna.
Like bubbles in water, like eggs among birds, those who are deprived of bathing in the Yamuna are born only to die.
A Brahmin without devotion to Vishnu is ruined, as is a Brahmin whose śrāddha offering is destroyed; a Kshatriya without adherence to Brahman is ruined, and a family is ruined by misconduct.
Dharma is ruined by hypocrisy, austerity is ruined by anger, knowledge is ruined by lack of firmness, and learning is ruined by negligence.
A woman is ruined by devotion to another, a celibate is ruined by a woman; a sacrifice is ruined by an unkindled fire, and regular devotion is ruined.
