तत्र सर्वगतो राजा पृथिव्यामभिजायते । सर्वलक्षणसंपूर्णः सर्वव्याधिविवर्जितः
There, a man is born as a universal monarch on earth, endowed with all auspicious marks and free from all diseases.
नार्मदीयोत्तरेकूले तीर्थं परमशोभनम् । आदित्यायतनं रम्यमीश्वरेण तु भावितम्
On the northern bank of the Narmadā is a most beautiful ford, the delightful abode of the Sun, sanctified by the Lord.
तत्र स्नात्वा तु राजेंद्र दानं दत्वा च शक्तितः । तस्य तीर्थप्रभावेण दत्तं भवति चाक्षयम्
There, O king, after bathing and giving charity according to one's ability, by the power of that ford, whatever is given becomes imperishable.
दरिद्रा व्याधिता ये तु ये च दुष्कृतकर्मणः । मुच्यंते सर्वपापेभ्यः सूर्यलोकं प्रयांति च
Those who are poor, afflicted by disease, or have committed evil deeds—all are freed from all sins and go to the world of the Sun.
माघमासे तु संप्राप्ते शुक्लपक्षस्य सप्तमीम् । वसेदायतने यस्तु निरात्मा यो जितेंद्रियः
When the month of Māgha arrives, on the seventh day of the bright fortnight, whoever stays at the abode, self-controlled and with subdued senses,
न जायते व्याधितश्च कालेंधो बधिरस्तथा । सुभगो रूपसंपन्नः स्त्रीणां भवति वल्लभः
Is not born blind, diseased, or deaf; he becomes fortunate, handsome, and beloved by women.
इदं तीर्थं महापुण्यं मार्कंडेयेन भाषितम् । ये प्रयांति न राजेंद्र वंचितास्ते न संशयः
This ford of great merit was described by Mārkaṇḍeya; those who go there, O king, are never deceived—of this there is no doubt.
मासेश्वरं ततो गच्छेत्स्नानं तत्र समाचरेत् । स्नातमात्रो नरस्तत्र स्वर्गलोकमवाप्नुयात्
Then one should go to Māseśvara and bathe there; as soon as a man bathes there, he attains the world of heaven.
मोदते सर्वलोकस्थो यावदिंद्राश्चतुर्दश । ततः समीपतः स्थित्वा नागेश्वरं तपोवनम्
He delights in all worlds as long as the fourteen Indras exist; then, drawing near, he stands at the Tapovana of Nāgeśvara.
तत्र स्नात्वा तु राजेंद्र शुचिर्भूत्वा समाहितः । बहुभिर्नागकन्याभिः क्रीडते कालमक्षयम्
There, O king of kings, after bathing, becoming pure and composed, he plays endlessly with many daughters of the nāgas.
कुबेरभवनं गच्छेत्कुबेरो यत्र संस्थितः । कालेश्वरं परं तीर्थं कुबेरो यत्र तोषितः
He goes to the abode of Kubera, where Kubera himself resides; to Kāleśvara, the supreme holy place, where Kubera was gratified.
यत्र स्नात्वा तु राजेंद्र सर्वसंपदमाप्नुयात् । ततः पश्चिमतो गच्छेन्मरुतालयमुत्तमम्
There, O king, by bathing, one attains all prosperity; then, proceeding westward, he should go to the excellent Marutālaya.
तत्र स्नात्वा तु राजेंद्र शुचिर्भूत्वा समाहितः । कांचनं तु ततो दद्यादन्नशक्त्या तु बुद्धिमान्
There, O king, after bathing, becoming pure and focused, he should wisely give gold according to his ability to provide food.
पुष्पकेण विमानेन वायुलोकं स गच्छति । मम तीर्थं ततो गच्छेन्माघमासे युधिष्ठिर
By the Puṣpaka chariot, he goes to the world of the wind; then, O Yudhiṣṭhira, he should go to my holy place in the month of Māgha.
कृष्णपक्षे चतुर्दश्यां स्नानं तत्र समाचरेत् । नक्तं भोज्यं ततः कुर्यान्न गच्छेद्योनिसंकटम्
On the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight, one should bathe there; then one should eat only at night and not go to a place of difficult birth.
अहल्यातीर्थं ततो गच्छेत्स्नानं तत्र समाचरेत् । स्नातमात्रो नरस्तत्र अप्सरोभिः प्रमोदते
Then he should go to the Ahalyā tīrtha and bathe there; immediately after bathing, a man delights with the apsarases.
पारमेश्वरे तपस्तप्त्वा अहल्या मुक्तिमागमत् । चैत्रमासे तु संप्राप्ते शुक्लपक्षे त्रयोदशी
Having performed austerity at the Pārameśvara, Ahalyā attained liberation; when the month of Caitra arrives, on the thirteenth day of the bright fortnight—
कामदेवदिने तस्मिन्नहल्यां तु प्रपूजयेत् । यत्र तत्र समुत्पन्नो नरस्तत्र प्रियो भवेत्
On that day of Kāmadeva, one should worship Ahalyā; wherever he is born, there a man becomes beloved.
स्त्रीवल्लभो भवेच्छ्रीमान्कामदेव इवापरः । अयोध्यां तु समासाद्य तीर्थं शक्रस्य विश्रुतम्
He becomes dear to women, prosperous, like another Kāmadeva; then, reaching Ayodhyā, the renowned holy place of Śakra—
स्नातमात्रो नरस्तत्र गोसहस्र फलं लभेत् । सोमतीर्थं ततो गच्छेत्स्नानमात्रं समाचरेत्
Immediately after bathing there, a man obtains the merit of a thousand cows; then he should go to the Soma tīrtha and perform only the bath.
स्नातमात्रो नरस्तत्र सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते । सोमग्रहे तु राजेंद्र पापक्षयकरं भवेत्
Immediately after bathing there, a man is freed from all sins; at the time of a lunar eclipse, O king, it becomes the destroyer of sins.
त्रैलोक्यविश्रुतं राजन्सोमतीर्थं महाफलम् । यस्तु चांद्रायणं कुर्यात्तस्मिंस्तीर्थे नराधिप
O king, the Soma tīrtha, famed throughout the three worlds, is of great fruit; and whoever performs the Cāndrāyaṇa there, O lord of men—
सर्वपापविशुद्धात्मा सोमलोकं स गच्छति । अग्निप्रवेशे तु जलेप्यथवापि ह्यनाशने
With his soul purified from all sins, he goes to the world of Soma, whether by entering fire, water, or by fasting.
सोमतीर्थे मृतो यस्तु नासौ मर्त्येभिजायते । स्तंभतीर्थं ततो गच्छेत्स्नानं तत्र समाचरेत्
Whoever dies at the Soma tīrtha is not born again among mortals; then he should go to the Staṃbha tīrtha and perform the bath there.
स्नातमात्रो नरस्तत्र सोमलोके महीयते । ततो गच्छेत राजेंद्र विष्णुतीर्थमनुत्तमम्
Immediately after bathing there, a man is honored in the world of Soma; then, O king, he should go to the supreme Viṣṇu tīrtha.
योधनीपुरविख्यातं विष्णुतीर्थमनुत्तमम् । असुरा योधितास्तत्र वासुदेवेन कोटिशः
The Viṣṇu tīrtha, renowned as Yodhanīpura, is supreme; there, the asuras were slain by Vāsudeva by the millions.
तत्र तीर्थं समुत्पन्नं विष्णुः प्रीतो भवेदिह । अहोरात्रोपवासेन ब्रह्महत्यां व्यपोहति
There, a sacred ford arises, where Viṣṇu is pleased; by fasting for a day and night, one is freed from the sin of killing a brāhmaṇa.
ततो गच्छेत्तु राजेंद्र तापसेश्वरमुत्तमम् । अमोहकमिति ख्यातं पितॄन्यस्तत्र तर्पयेत्
Then, O king, one should proceed to the supreme Lord of Ascetics, renowned as Amohaka, and there offer oblations to the ancestors.
पौर्णमास्याममावास्यां श्राद्धं कुर्याद्यथाविधि । तत्र स्नात्वा नरो राजन्पितृपिंडं तु दापयेत्
On the full moon or new moon, one should perform the śrāddha ritual as prescribed; having bathed there, O king, a man should offer the ancestral cake.
गजरूपाः शिलास्तत्र तोयमध्ये प्रतिष्ठिताः । तस्मिंस्तु दापयेत्पिंडं वैशाखे तु विशेषतः
There, stones shaped like elephants are established in the water; on those, one should especially offer the ancestral cake in the month of Vaiśākha.
