सप्तजन्मकृतैः पापैर्मुच्यते नात्र संशयः । वटेश्वरं ततो गच्छेत्सर्वतीर्थमनुत्तमम्
There is no doubt that one is freed from sins committed over seven births; then, one should go to Vateshvara, the supreme of all holy places.
तत्र स्नात्वा नरो राजन्गोसहस्रफलं लभेत् । संगमेश्वरं ततो गच्छेत्सर्वपापहरं परम्
Bathing there, O king, a man obtains the merit of a thousand cows; then, one should go to Sangameshvara, the supreme remover of all sins.
तत्र स्नात्वा नरो राज्यं लभते नात्र संशयः । भद्रतीर्थं समासाद्य दानं दद्यात्तु यो नरः
Bathing there, O king, a man attains sovereignty, there is no doubt; arriving at Bhadratirtha, whoever gives charity there—
तस्य तीर्थप्रभावेण सर्वं कोटिगुणं भवेत् । अथ नारी भवेत्कापि तत्र स्नानं समाचरेत्
By the power of that holy place, everything is multiplied a crore-fold; and if any woman bathes there—
गौरीतुल्या भवेत्सा तु इंद्रं याति न संशयः । अंगारेश्वरं ततो गच्छेत्स्नानं तत्र समाचरेत्
She becomes equal to Gauri and attains Indra, there is no doubt; then, one should go to Angareshvara and perform bathing there.
स्नातमात्रो नरस्तत्र रुद्रलोके महीयते । अंगारक्यां चतुर्थ्यां तु स्नानं तत्र समाचरेत्
Merely by bathing there, a man is honored in Rudra's realm; and on the fourth day of Angaraka, one should perform bathing there.
अक्षयं मोदते कालं मुरारिकृतशासनः । अयोनिसंगमे स्नात्वा न पश्येद्योनिमंदिरम्
He enjoys inexhaustible happiness for a period, having followed Murari's command; bathing at the union of Ayoni, he does not see the temple of the womb.
पांडवेश्वरकं गत्वा स्नानं तत्र समाचरेत् । अक्षयं मोदते कालमवध्यस्तु सुरासुरैः
Going to Pandaveshvara and performing bathing there, he enjoys inexhaustible happiness for a period and cannot be slain by gods or demons.
विष्णुलोकं ततो गत्वा क्रीडाभोगसमन्वितः । तत्र भुक्त्वा महाभोगान्मर्त्ये राजाभिजायते
Then, going to Vishnu's realm, endowed with play and enjoyment, having experienced great pleasures there, he is born as a king among mortals.
कंबोतिकेश्वरं गच्छेत्स्नानं तत्र समाचरेत् । उत्तरायणे तु संप्राप्ते यदिच्छेत्तस्य तद्भवेत्
One should go to Kambotikesvara and perform bathing there; when the northern solstice arrives, whatever he desires, that shall be attained.
चंद्रभागां ततो गच्छेत्स्नानं तत्र समाचरेत् । स्नातमात्रो नरस्तत्र सोमलोके महीयते
Then one should go to the Candrabhaga and bathe there; as soon as a man bathes there, he is honored in the world of Soma.
ततो गच्छेत राजेंद्र तीर्थं शक्रस्य विश्रुतम् । पूजितं देवराजेन देवैरपि नमस्कृतम्
After that, O king, one should proceed to the renowned ford of Indra, worshipped by the king of the gods and revered even by the deities.
तत्र स्नात्वा नरो राजन्दानं दत्वा च कांचनम् । अथवा नीलवर्णाभं वृषभं यः समुत्सृजेत्
There, having bathed, O king, if a man gives gold in charity, or releases a bull resembling the color of sapphire,
वृषभस्य तु रोमाणि तत्प्रसूतिकुलेषु च । तावद्वर्षसहस्राणि नरो हरपुरे वसेत्
For as many hairs as are on the bull, in the line of its offspring, for that many thousands of years the man dwells in the city of Hara.
ततः स्वर्गात्परिभ्रष्टो राजा भवति वीर्यवान् । अश्वानां श्वेतवर्णानां सहस्रेषु नराधिप
Then, having fallen from heaven, he is born as a powerful king, lord among men, possessing thousands of white horses, due to the merit of that ford.
स्वामी भवति मर्त्येषु तस्य तीर्थ प्रभावतः । ततो गच्छेत राजेंद्र ब्रह्मावर्त्तमनुत्तमम्
He becomes a ruler among mortals by the power of that ford; then, O king, one should proceed to the supreme Brahmavarta.
तत्र स्नात्वा नरो राजंस्तर्पयेत्पितृदेवताः । उपोष्य रजनीमेकां पिंडं दत्वा यथाविधि
There, having bathed, O king, a man should offer oblations to the ancestors and deities; after fasting for one night and giving a rice-ball as prescribed,
कन्यागते यथाऽदित्ये अक्षयं संचितं भवेत् । ततो गच्छेत राजेंद्र कपिलातीर्थमुत्तमम्
Just as when the sun enters the sign of Kanyā, the merit accumulated there becomes inexhaustible; then, O king, one should proceed to the excellent Kapila ford.
तत्र स्नात्वा नरो राजन्कपिलां यः प्रयच्छति । संपूर्णां पृथिवीं दत्वा यत्फलं तदवाप्नुयात्
There, having bathed, O king, whoever gives a Kapila cow attains the fruit of having given the entire earth.
नर्मदेश्वरं परं तीर्थं न भूतं न भविष्यति । तत्र स्नात्वा नरो राजन्नश्वमेधफलं लभेत्
Narmadeśvara is the supreme ford—there has never been, nor will there be, its equal; bathing there, O king, a man obtains the fruit of an Aśvamedha sacrifice.
तत्र सर्वगतो राजा पृथिव्यामभिजायते । सर्वलक्षणसंपूर्णः सर्वव्याधिविवर्जितः
There, a man is born as a universal monarch on earth, endowed with all auspicious marks and free from all diseases.
नार्मदीयोत्तरेकूले तीर्थं परमशोभनम् । आदित्यायतनं रम्यमीश्वरेण तु भावितम्
On the northern bank of the Narmadā is a most beautiful ford, the delightful abode of the Sun, sanctified by the Lord.
तत्र स्नात्वा तु राजेंद्र दानं दत्वा च शक्तितः । तस्य तीर्थप्रभावेण दत्तं भवति चाक्षयम्
There, O king, after bathing and giving charity according to one's ability, by the power of that ford, whatever is given becomes imperishable.
दरिद्रा व्याधिता ये तु ये च दुष्कृतकर्मणः । मुच्यंते सर्वपापेभ्यः सूर्यलोकं प्रयांति च
Those who are poor, afflicted by disease, or have committed evil deeds—all are freed from all sins and go to the world of the Sun.
माघमासे तु संप्राप्ते शुक्लपक्षस्य सप्तमीम् । वसेदायतने यस्तु निरात्मा यो जितेंद्रियः
When the month of Māgha arrives, on the seventh day of the bright fortnight, whoever stays at the abode, self-controlled and with subdued senses,
न जायते व्याधितश्च कालेंधो बधिरस्तथा । सुभगो रूपसंपन्नः स्त्रीणां भवति वल्लभः
Is not born blind, diseased, or deaf; he becomes fortunate, handsome, and beloved by women.
इदं तीर्थं महापुण्यं मार्कंडेयेन भाषितम् । ये प्रयांति न राजेंद्र वंचितास्ते न संशयः
This ford of great merit was described by Mārkaṇḍeya; those who go there, O king, are never deceived—of this there is no doubt.
मासेश्वरं ततो गच्छेत्स्नानं तत्र समाचरेत् । स्नातमात्रो नरस्तत्र स्वर्गलोकमवाप्नुयात्
Then one should go to Māseśvara and bathe there; as soon as a man bathes there, he attains the world of heaven.
मोदते सर्वलोकस्थो यावदिंद्राश्चतुर्दश । ततः समीपतः स्थित्वा नागेश्वरं तपोवनम्
He delights in all worlds as long as the fourteen Indras exist; then, drawing near, he stands at the Tapovana of Nāgeśvara.
तत्र स्नात्वा तु राजेंद्र शुचिर्भूत्वा समाहितः । बहुभिर्नागकन्याभिः क्रीडते कालमक्षयम्
There, O king of kings, after bathing, becoming pure and composed, he plays endlessly with many daughters of the nāgas.
