महादेवं तथोपास्य त्रयोदश्यां हि मानवः । स्नातमात्रो नरस्तत्र सर्वयज्ञफलं लभेत्
By worshipping Mahadeva in this way on the thirteenth day, a man who bathes there immediately obtains the fruit of all sacrifices.
ततो गच्छेत राजेंद्र तीर्थं परमशोभनम् । नराणां पापनाशाय अगस्त्येश्वरमुत्तमम्
After that, O king, one should go to the most splendid sacred place, Agastyeshvara, supreme for the destruction of the sins of men.
तत्र स्नात्वा नरो राजन्मुच्यते ब्रह्महत्यया । कार्तिकस्य तु मासस्य कृष्णपक्षचतुर्दशी
There, O king, by bathing, a man is freed from the sin of killing a Brahmin, especially on the fourteenth day of the dark half of the month of Kartika.
घृतेन स्नापयेद्देवं समाधिस्थो जितेंद्रियः । एकविंशकुलोपेतो न मुच्येदैश्वरात्पदात्
One who, self-controlled and absorbed in meditation, bathes the deity with ghee, accompanied by twenty-one families, is not deprived of the state of lordship.
धेनवोपानहंच्छत्रं तथा दद्याच्च कंबलम् । भोजनं चैव विप्राणां सर्वं कोटिगुणं भवेत्
One should also give cows, footwear, an umbrella, and likewise a blanket, as well as food to Brahmins; all this yields a crore-fold reward.
ततो गच्छेत राजेंद्र रविस्तवमनुत्तमम् । तत्र स्नात्वा नरो राजन्सिंहासनगतिर्भवेत्
Then, O king, one should go to the most excellent place of the Sun's praise; by bathing there, a man attains the status of being enthroned.
नर्मदा दक्षिणे कूले तीर्थं शक्रस्य विश्रुतम् । उपोष्य रजनीमेकां स्नानं तत्र समाचरेत्
On the southern bank of the Narmada is the renowned sacred place of Shakra; after fasting for one night, one should perform bathing there.
स्नानं कृत्वा यथान्यायमर्च्चयेत्तु जनार्दनम् । गोसहस्रफलं तस्य विष्णुलोकं स गच्छति
Having bathed properly, one should worship Janardana; the fruit of a thousand cows is his, and he goes to the world of Vishnu.
ऋषितीर्थं ततो गच्छेत्सर्वपापहरं नृणाम् । स्नातमात्रो नरस्तत्र शिवलोके महीयते
Then one should go to the Rishi-tirtha, which removes all sins of men; by merely bathing there, a man is honored in the world of Shiva.
नारदस्य च तत्रैव तीर्थं परमशोभनम् । स्नातमात्रो नरस्तत्र गोसहस्रफलं लभेत्
There also is the most splendid sacred place of Narada; by merely bathing there, a man obtains the fruit of a thousand cows.
देवतीर्थं ततो गच्छेद्ब्रह्मणा निर्मितं पुरा । तत्र स्नात्वा नरो राजन्ब्रह्मलोके महीयते
Then one should go to the Deva-tirtha, formerly established by Brahma; by bathing there, O king, a man is honored in the world of Brahma.
अमरकंटकं ततो गच्छेदमरस्थापितं पुरा । स्नातमात्रो नरस्तत्र गोसहस्रफलं लभेत्
Then one should go to Amarakantaka, formerly established by the immortals; by merely bathing there, a man obtains the fruit of a thousand cows.
ततो गच्छेत राजेंद्र वामनेश्वरमुत्तमम् । तत्र वामनकं दृष्ट्वा मुच्यते ब्रह्महत्यया
Then, O king, one should go to the supreme Vamaneshvara; by seeing the image of Vamana there, one is freed from the sin of killing a Brahmin.
ऋषितीर्थं ततो गच्छेदीशानेशं पुमान्ध्रुवम् । वटेश्वरं ततो दृष्ट्वा पर्य्याप्तं जन्मनः फलम्
Then one should go to the Rishi-tirtha and to Ishaneshvara, O man, without fail; then, by seeing Vateshvara, the fruit of birth is fully attained.
भीमेश्वरं ततो गच्छेत्सर्वव्याधिविनाशनम् । स्नातमात्रो नरो राजन्सर्वदुःखात्प्रमुच्यते
Then one should go to Bhīmeśvara, the destroyer of all diseases; O King, a person who bathes there is freed from all suffering.
ततो गच्छेत राजेंद्र वारणेश्वरमुत्तमम् । तत्र स्नात्वा नरो राजन्सर्वदुःखात्प्रमुच्यते
After that, O King of Kings, one should proceed to the excellent Vāraṇeśvara; bathing there, a person is released from all sorrow.
सोमतीर्थं ततो गच्छेत्पश्येच्चंद्रमनुत्तमम् । तत्र स्नात्वा नरो राजन्भक्त्या परमया युतः
Next, one should go to the Somatīrtha and behold the incomparable moon; there, O King, bathing with utmost devotion,
तत्क्षणाद्दिव्यदेहस्थः शिववन्मोदते चिरम् । षष्टिवर्षसहस्राणि शिवलोके महीयते
In that very moment, dwelling in a divine body, one rejoices in the grove of Śiva for a long time, and is honored in the world of Śiva for sixty thousand years.
ततो गच्छेत राजेंद्र पिंगलेश्वरमुत्तमम् । अहोरात्रोपवासेन त्रिरात्रफलमाप्नुयात्
Then, O King of Kings, one should go to the excellent Piṃgaleśvara; by fasting for a day and night, one attains the fruit of fasting for three nights.
तस्मिंस्तीर्थे तु राजेंद्र कपिलां यः प्रयच्छति । यावंति तस्या रोमाणि तत्प्रसूतकुलस्य च
At that holy place, O King, whoever offers a Kapilā cow, for as many hairs as are on her and her offspring,
तावद्वर्षसहस्राणि रुद्रलोके महीयते । यस्तुप्राणपरित्यागं तत्र कुर्य्यान्नराधिप
For that many thousands of years, one is honored in the realm of Rudra; and whoever, O King, gives up their life there,
अक्षयं मोदते कालं यावच्चंद्रदिवाकरौ । नर्मदातटमाश्रित्य तिष्ठंति ये तु मानवाः
Enjoys inexhaustible happiness for as long as the moon and sun endure; those humans who dwell on the banks of the Narmadā,
ते मृताः स्वर्गमायांति तथा सुकृतिनो यथा । सुरभिकेश्वरं गच्छेन्नारकं कोटिकेश्वरम्
When they die, they go to heaven, just as the virtuous do; one should go to Surabhikeśvara, and to Koṭikeśvara in Nāraka.
गंगावतरणे तत्र दिने पुण्यो न संशयः । नंदितीर्थं ततो गच्छेत्स्नानं तत्र समाचरेत्
On the day of the descent of the Gaṅgā there, the merit is certain; then one should go to Nanditīrtha and perform bathing there.
तुष्यते तं तु नंदीशः सोमलोके महीयते । ततो द्वीपेश्वरं गच्छेद्व्यासतीर्थं तपोवनम्
Nandīśa is pleased by that, and one is honored in the world of Soma; then one should go to Dvīpeśvara, to Vyāsa's holy place, the forest of austerity.
निवर्तिता पुरा तत्र व्यासभीता महानदी । हुंकारिता तु व्यासेन दक्षिणेन ततो गता
Long ago, the great river was turned back there, frightened by Vyāsa; it was driven away by Vyāsa's shout and went southward.
प्रदक्षिणं तु यः कुर्यात्तस्मिंस्तीर्थे नराधिप । व्यासस्तस्य भवेत्प्रीतो वांछितं लभते फलम्
Whoever, O King, performs circumambulation at that holy place, Vyāsa is pleased with him and he attains the desired fruit.
सूत्रेण वेष्टयेद्यस्तु दीप्तं देवं सवेदिकम् । क्रीडते ह्यक्षयं कालं यथा रुद्रस्तथैव सः
Whoever wraps the blazing deity, together with its pedestal, with a thread, plays for an endless time, just as Rudra does.
ततो गच्छेत राजेंद्र एरंडीतीर्थमुत्तमम् । संगमे तु नरः स्नात्वा मुच्यते सर्वपातकैः
Then, O King of Kings, one should go to the excellent Eraṇḍī holy place; bathing at the confluence, a person is freed from all sins.
एरंडी त्रिषु लोकेषु विख्याता पापनाशिनी । अथवाश्वयुजे मासे शुक्लपक्षस्य चाष्टमी
Eraṇḍī is renowned in the three worlds as the destroyer of sin; or, in the month of Āśvayuja, on the eighth day of the bright fortnight,
