He will remove your suffering and uplift his own lineage; making his father happy, he will become the protector of his people.
All this, O auspicious one, is the tale of the gods I have told you; abandoning grief and sorrow, turn now to happiness.
Ashokasundari said: When indeed will my husband return, if it is ordained by the gods? Speak truly, knower of righteousness, and increase my happiness.
Vidvara said: Soon you will see your husband, listen, O beautiful one; having spoken thus, the Gandharva departed for the abode of the gods.
There, Ashokasundari performed austerities, abandoning desire, anger, and also greed, O daughter of Shiva.
Thus, in the Padma Purana, in the section of Bhoomi Khanda, in the story of Vena, in the greatness of Gurutirtha, in the tale of Chyavana, in the account of Nahusha, this is the one hundred and ninth chapter.
Kunjala said: Having taken leave of all the sages, especially Vashishtha, foremost among ascetics, Nahusha, eager to depart, prepared to confront the demon.
Then all the sages, beginning with Vashishtha, rich in austerity, blessed Nahusha, the mighty son, with their benedictions.
In the sky, all the gods joyfully sounded drums and showered flowers upon the head of Nahusha.
Then the thousand-eyed god, Indra, arrived together with the gods and gave him weapons and missiles, shining with the brilliance of the sun.
The tiger among kings, O best of twice-born, received from the gods those divine weapons, and became equal to them in celestial form.
Then all the deities spoke to the thousand-eyed lord: 'Let the chariot be given to Nahusha, O lord of the gods.'
Understanding the will of the gods, the wielder of the thunderbolt summoned his own charioteer, Matali, and instructed him, O twice-born.
Go to that great-souled one; let him be bewildered by the chariot, adorned with a banner, the wise son of Ayu, prepared for battle.
He replied to the thousand-eyed one: 'I will carry out your command.' Having spoken thus, he swiftly went to Ayu's son, ready for war.
He addressed the king with the words of the king of the gods: 'Be victorious, O knower of dharma, with this chariot in battle.'
Thus spoke the thousand-eyed one: 'O lord of kings, slay the demon in battle, that wicked-minded Hunda.'
Hearing this, the king was filled with joy and goosebumps, by the grace of the great-souled lord of gods, Vashishtha.
I will destroy the demon in battle, that wicked-minded one, especially for the gods, and for me whose magic has been deceived.
When the great-souled Nahusha spoke these mighty words, then the god himself arrived, bearing the conch, discus, and mace.
He uprooted his discus, vast as the orb of the sun, blazing with radiant energy, shining, perfectly round, and auspicious.
The god joyfully gave it to Nahusha; and Shambhu gave him a spear, exceedingly sharp and endowed with brilliance.
With that excellent spear, he shone, ready for battle, like a second Shankara, the lord who destroyed Tripura.
Brahma gave the Brahma weapon; Varuna, the supreme noose; the moon, a conch resembling his own radiance, producing an auspicious sound.
Indra gave the thunderbolt, and Shakti; Vayu gave the bow with arrows; Agni gave the fire weapon to that great-souled one.
The great-souled gods gave him many divine weapons and missiles of various kinds, to the king of great energy.
Kunjala said: Then the heroic son of Ayu, honored by the gods, and praised with blessings by sages who know the truth,
Mounted the divine chariot, radiant and adorned with gems, resounding with the clang of bells, filled with small bells.
With that celestial chariot, the king shone brilliantly, just as the sun shines with its own radiance along the path of heaven.
With his own brilliance, he oppressed the heads of the demons, moving swiftly with the speed of the wind, ever in motion.
