'He has been devoured, O wide-eyed one,' so he believes, O auspicious lady; after informing you all, that vile demon departed.
By the ripening of his own actions, even of merit, the illustrious one, your husband, lives due to what was earned in a previous birth.
By the strength of merit alone, for those whose lifespan is established, O noble lady, the destroyers do not wish for the destruction of what is self-earned.
The evil-minded, greatly sinful, violators of others' power, day by day they strive for the destruction of their fame.
With various means, such as poison and weapons, they seek to kill that virtuous one, who is protected by his meritorious deeds.
Indeed, sinners like sorcerers and the like, with enchantments, immobilizations, and other such acts, torment the greatly sinful by various kinds of force and deceit.
By the application of good deeds acquired in previous births, O noble lady, even great merit protects the virtuous one.
Therefore, the methods of sinners—devices, spells, weapons, fire, poison, and bindings—prove fruitless against the virtuous.
The great-souled one, protected by divine merit, is safeguarded, while those who attempt harm are reduced to ashes; he who partakes of merit remains unharmed.
O noble one, the guardian deities protect the life and son of the heroic man, just as all treasures of penance preserve the accumulation of merit.
Thus, the hero Nahusha, foremost among the strong, is protected by truth, austerity, merit, self-restraint, and discipline.
Do not create harsh sorrow or indulge in needless grief; that righteous soul lives on in the forest, though separated from mother and father.
Dwelling alone in the forest of austerities, the ascetic is protected; he knows the essence of the Vedas and their branches, and has mastered the science of archery.
Just as the moon shines with its own rays and brilliance, so too does he shine with his own qualities, O slender-waisted one.
By learning, great merit, austerity, and fame, he shines forth—destroyer of enemy heroes, slayer of foes, beloved of the gods.
Having slain the demon king Hunda, he will speak thus to you: together with you and your wife, he will be the sole ruler of the earth.
He will become a great yogi, like Indra in heaven; therefore, O blessed one, you will obtain a son equal to Indra.
A son named Yayati, righteous and devoted to protecting his subjects, will be born to you, as well as a hundred daughters endowed with beauty, generosity, and virtue.
By the merit of these daughters, O great king, he will attain the world of Indra; Nahusha, powerful in virtue, will enjoy the status of Indra, O goddess.
A son named Yayati, righteous in soul, will be born to you; he will be a great king, protector of his people, and compassionate to all living beings.
His sons will be four in number, endowed with great energy, possessing strength and valor, and accomplished in the science of archery.
The first will be named Turu, the second Puru, the third Uru, and the fourth, rich in valor, Yadu.
In this way, the sons will be of great valor, radiant, and mighty; they will be noble souls endowed with all brilliance.
And the sons of Yadu, heroic and possessing lion-like prowess—hear now their names, auspicious one, as I recite them.
Bhoja, Bhimaka, Andhaka, and likewise Kunjara; and Vrishni, whose nature is supremely righteous, will be the foundation of truth.
The sixth is Shrutasena, and Shrutadhara is the seventh; Kaladamshtra, of great might, who in battle conquers even Time, is powerful.
O beautiful one, the mighty sons of Yadu will be known as the Yadavas; their sons and grandsons will number in the thousands.
Thus, O goddess, the lineage of Nahusha will be yours; casting aside sorrow, proceed onward with happiness.
Your wise husband, O auspicious-faced one, will return; having slain the demon Hunda, he will marry you thus.
Tears, born of sorrow and burning, fall from her eyes; the honor-giver gently wipes away Ashokasundari's tears.
