There, the drums did not sound, but the Gandharvas sang sweetly; the foremost Apsarases danced and showered flowers.
All the gods and sages praised him with Vedic hymns; then, together with his beloved, the king went to Hari.
He saw that radiant one, being praised by hosts of gods and Siddhas, his mind filled with joy; there, his father and mother, of great power, had swiftly assembled and stood.
Thus ends the ninety-ninth chapter, the story of Cyavana at the holy Guru-tirtha, in the narrative of Vena, in the Bhumi-khanda of the glorious Padma Purana.
Vishnu said: On the beautiful bank of the Narmada, beneath a banyan tree, the father stands; Vijvala too arrived and, bowing to his father—
That great-minded one, devoted to righteousness, recounted in his father's presence the glory of the hymn named after Vasudeva.
Just as Vishnu himself came and granted him an auspicious boon, so too did he narrate everything with a heart full of joy.
Hearing the account from Vijvala, King Kunjala, overwhelmed with great happiness, embraced his son.
He said, 'O child, you have performed a meritorious deed for the great-souled king, a great and virtuous act by praising Vasudeva.'
Having thus spoken to his son and blessed him with auspicious words, he praised his son, who was accompanied by the gods, again and again.
Remaining on the beautiful riverbank, Cyavana observed all this; thus, all the deeds of these great souls have been related to you.
O great king, what else shall I tell you about the Vaishnavas? Vena said: Nectar in a conch vessel has been offered to me for drinking.
Therefore, who on earth would not have faith to drink it? The supreme Vaishnava knowledge is always to be imbibed here.
As you speak thus, my thirst for drinking does not cease; indeed, O Lord of gods and lords, my faith to hear increases.
Please tell me, by your grace, also the deeds of Kunjala; and what the great-souled one said to his fourth son.
Kindly relate to me the true account in full detail. The Blessed Lord said: Listen, I shall recount the story of Kunjala.
This account of Cyavana, endowed with manifold virtues and excellent conduct, O best of men, is meritorious and destroys sin.
Whoever hears this with devotion attains the merit equal to that of gifting a thousand cows.
Thus ends the hundredth chapter, called 'The Story of Cyavana,' in the section on the greatness of the Guru Tirtha, within the narrative of Vena, in the Bhumi Khanda of the glorious Padma Purana.
Sūta said: The god of gods, Hṛṣīkeśa, spoke to the noble son of Tvanga, the best of kings, recounting a most auspicious tale that destroys sin.
Listen as I now relate a story that bestows supreme good, the account of the great-souled Kuñjala, a twice-born sage.
Viṣṇu said: Kuñjala, righteous in soul, summoned his fourth son, Kapiñjala, and, filled with joy, spoke to him.
Tell me, my son, what new thing have you seen? For what purpose do you go from here for food, O best of sons?
Now, O greatly fortunate one, if you have seen anything supremely auspicious, tell it. Kapiñjala said: Whatever you have asked, father, that is new, I shall tell you.
What I have not seen or heard, or why I have not heard it, I shall now declare here itself—listen now, father.
Let all my brothers listen, and you, mother, hear now as well: Kailāsa, the foremost of mountains, shines white like the moon.
It is filled with various minerals and adorned with many kinds of trees; it is washed everywhere by the pure and holy waters of the Gaṅgā, O father.
Thousands of divine and various rivers arise from there, O father, as well as diverse waters.
On that great mountain are thousands of lakes filled with water; there are broad rivers frequented by swans and cranes.
On that best of peaks are various forests, blossoming and bearing fruit, which grant merit and destroy sin.
