आनंदकंदाय विशुद्धबुद्धये शुद्धाय हंसाय परावराय। । नमोऽस्तु तस्मै गणनायकाय श्रीवासुदेवाय महाप्रभाय
Salutations to that supreme leader of qualities, Śrī Vāsudeva, source of bliss, of pure intellect, pure as the swan, transcending all, of great splendor.
श्रीपांचजन्येन विराजमानं रविप्रभेणापि सुदर्शनेन ।। गदाब्जकेनापि विराजमानं प्रभुं सदैनं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I take refuge in that Lord, resplendent with the glorious Pāñcajanya, with the radiant Sudarśana, and shining with the mace and lotus.
यं वेदगुह्यं सगुणं गुणानामाधारभूतं सचराचरस्य ।। यं सूर्यवैश्वानरतुल्यतेजसं तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I take refuge in Vāsudeva, who is the secret of the Vedas, endowed with qualities, the support of all qualities, of all that moves and does not move, whose brilliance equals that of the sun and fire.
क्षुधानिधानं विमलं सुरूपमानंदमानेन विराजमानम् । यं प्राप्य जीवंति सुरादिलोकास्तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I take refuge in Vāsudeva, who is the storehouse of nourishment, pure, beautiful, shining with joy and pride, by attaining whom the worlds of gods and others live.
तमोघनानां स्वकरैर्विनाशं करोति नित्यं परिकर्महेतुः ।। उद्द्योतमानं रविदीप्ततेजसं तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I take refuge in Vāsudeva, who always destroys masses of darkness with his own rays, who is the cause of all actions, and who shines with the brilliance of the sun.
यो भाति सर्वत्र रविप्रभावैः करोति शोषं च रसं ददाति ।। यः प्राणिनामंतरगः स वायुस्तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I take refuge in Vāsudeva, who shines everywhere with the radiance of the sun, who dries up and gives moisture, who, as air, dwells within all living beings.
स्वेच्छानुरूपेण स देवदेवो बिभर्ति लोकान्सकलान्महीपान् ।। संतारणे नौरिव वर्तते यस्तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I take refuge in Vāsudeva, that God of gods, who sustains all worlds and rulers according to his own will, who acts as a boat for crossing over.
अंतर्गतो लोकमयः सदैव पचत्यसौ स्थावरजंगमानाम् ।। स्वाहामुखो देवगणस्य हेतुस्तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I take refuge in Vāsudeva, who, entering within, pervades the worlds, always cooks all that is movable and immovable, who, as the mouth of svāhā, is the cause of the host of gods.
रसैः सुपुण्यैः सकलैः सहैव पुष्णाति सौम्यो गुणदश्च लोके ।। अन्नानि योनिर्मल तेजसैव तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I take refuge in Vāsudeva, who, gentle and bestower of virtues in the world, nourishes with all pure essences and foods, whose origin is pure brilliance.
अस्त्येव सर्वत्र विनाशहेतुः सर्वाश्रयः सर्वमयः स सर्वः ।। विना हृषीकैर्विषयान्प्रभुंक्ते तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I take refuge in Vāsudeva, who is everywhere the cause of destruction, the support and essence of all, who enjoys the objects of sense without the senses.
जीवस्वरूपेण बिभर्ति लोकांस्ततः स्वमूर्तान्सचराचरांश्च ।। निष्केवलो ज्ञानमयः सुशुद्धस्तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I take refuge in Vāsudeva, who upholds the worlds as the very form of the living being, and then his own forms, both moving and unmoving, who is non-dual, composed of knowledge, and supremely pure.
दैत्यांतकं दुःखविनाशमूलं शांतं परं शक्तिमयं विशालम् ।। यं प्राप्य देवा विनयं प्रयांति तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I take refuge in Vāsudeva, destroyer of demons, root of the end of suffering, peaceful, supreme, full of power, vast, whom the gods, having attained, become humble.
सुखं सुखांतं सुखदं सुरेशं ज्ञानार्णवं तं मुनिपं सुरेशम् ।। सत्याश्रयं सत्यगुणोपविष्टं तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I take refuge in Vāsudeva, lord of the gods, who is happiness, the end of happiness, giver of happiness, ocean of knowledge, chief of sages and gods, foundation of truth, established in true qualities.
यज्ञांगरूपं परमार्थरूपं मायान्वितं मापतिमुग्रपुण्यम् ।। विज्ञानमेकं जगतां निवासं तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I take refuge in Vāsudeva, who is the form of the limbs of sacrifice, the form of the highest reality, endowed with māyā, lord of mā, of fierce merit, the one knowledge, abode of the worlds.
अंभोधिमध्ये शयनं हितस्य नागांगभोगे शयनं विशाले ।। श्रीपादपद्मद्वयमेव तस्य तद्वासुदेवस्य नमामि नित्यम्
In the midst of the ocean, the bed of the beloved is upon the vast coils of the serpent; I eternally bow to the two lotus feet of that Vāsudeva.
पुण्यान्वितं शंकरमेव नित्यं तीर्थैरनेकैः परिसेव्यमानम् ।। तत्पादपद्मद्वयमेव तस्य श्रीवासुदेवस्य अघापहं तत्
Ever sanctified, ever served by many sacred places, the feet of that auspicious Śaṃkara; I bow to the two lotus feet of that Vāsudeva, which remove sin.
पादांबुजं रक्तमहोत्पलाभमंभोजसल्लिंगजयोपयुक्तम् ।। अलंकृतं नूपुरमुद्रिकाभिः श्रीवासुदेवस्य नमामि नित्यम्
The lotus feet, resembling a red great lotus, adorned with victorious marks of the lotus, decorated with anklets and rings; I eternally bow to the feet of Śrī Vāsudeva.
देवैः सुसिद्धैर्मुनिभिः सदैव नुतं सुभक्त्या उरगाधिपैश्च ।। तत्पादपंकेरुहमेवपुण्यं श्रीवासुदेवस्य नमामि नित्यम्
Ever praised with devotion by gods, perfected beings, sages, and the lords of serpents; I eternally bow to the sacred lotus feet of Śrī Vāsudeva.
यस्यापि पादांभसि मज्जमानाः पूता दिवं यांति विकल्मषास्ते ।। मोक्षं लभंते मुनयः सुतुष्टास्तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
Those who immerse themselves in the water from his feet are purified and ascend to heaven, freed from faults; satisfied sages attain liberation—I seek refuge in that Vāsudeva.
पादोदकं तिष्ठति यत्र विष्णोर्गंगादितीर्थानि सदैव तत्र ।। पिबंति येद्यापि सपापदेहास्ते यांति शुद्धाः सुगृहं मुरारेः
Where the water from Viṣṇu's feet remains, there always are the holy places like Gaṅgā; even those with sinful bodies who drink it become pure and attain the blessed abode of Murāri.
पादोदकेनाप्यभिषिच्यमाना उग्रैश्च पापैः परिलिप्तदेहाः ।। ते यांति मुक्तिं परमेश्वरस्य तस्यैव पादौ सततं नमामि
Even those whose bodies are covered with severe sins, when anointed with the water from his feet, attain liberation from the Supreme Lord; I always bow to those feet.
नैवेद्यमात्रेण सुभक्षितेन सुचक्रिणस्तस्य महात्मनस्तु ।। श्रीवाजपेयस्य फलं लभंते सर्वार्थयुक्ताश्च नरा भवंति
By merely offering and consuming the consecrated food of that great soul, those who act rightly obtain the fruit of the Śrī Vājapeya sacrifice, and all their wishes are fulfilled.
नारायणं तं नरकाधिनाशनं मायाविहीनं सकलं गुणज्ञम् ।। यं ध्यायमानाः सुगतिं प्रयांति तं वासुदेवं शरणं प्रपद्ये
I seek refuge in that Nārāyaṇa, destroyer of hell, free from illusion, knower of all qualities; those who meditate upon him attain the highest path.
यो वंद्यस्त्वृषिसिद्धचारणगणैर्देवैः सदा पूज्यते यः संसारमहार्णवे निपतितस्योद्धारको वत्सल-। स्तस्यैवापि नमाम्यहं सुचरणौ भक्त्या वरौ पावनौ
He who is always worshipped by sages, perfected beings, celestial singers, and gods, who rescues those fallen in the great ocean of worldly existence, compassionate—his two excellent, purifying feet I bow to with devotion.
यो दृष्टो मखमंडपे सुरगणैः श्रीवामनः सामगः ।। सामोद्गीतकुतूहलः सुरगणैस्त्रैलोक्य एकः प्रभुः । । कुर्वंतं नयनेक्षणैः शुभकरैर्निष्पापतां तद्बले-। स्तस्याहं चरणारविंदयुगलं वंदे परं पावनम्
He who was seen in the sacrificial pavilion by the hosts of gods as Śrī Vāmana, singer of Sāma, joyfully praised by the gods, the sole lord of the three worlds, bestowing sinlessness with auspicious glances—I worship his pair of lotus feet, supremely pure.
राजंतं द्विजमंडले मखमुखे ब्रह्मश्रियाशोभितं ।। दिव्येनापि सुतेजसा करमयं यं चेंद्रनीलोपमम् । देवानां हितकाम्यया सुतनुजं वैरोचनस्यापि तं-। याचंतं मम दीयतां त्रिपदकं वंदे प्रभुं वामनम्
He who shone with Brahma's splendor in the assembly of priests at the sacrifice, radiant as a sapphire, for the welfare of the gods, the son of Virocana, who begged from me the three steps—I worship the lord Vāmana.
तं द्रष्टुं रविमंडले मुनिगणैः संप्राप्तवंतं दिवं तस्यैवापि सुचक्रिणः सुरगणाः प्रापुर्लयं सांप्रतं-। का ये विश्वविकोशकेतमतुलं नौमि प्रभोर्विक्रमम्
He who was approached by groups of sages in the solar orb to see him, whose virtuous gods now attain dissolution; I praise the incomparable stride of the lord, the banner of the universe.
इति श्रीपद्मपुराणे भूमिखंडे वेनोपाख्याने गुरुतीर्थमाहात्म्ये च्यवनचरित्रेऽष्टनवतितमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the Bhūmikhaṇḍa of the Śrī Padma Purāṇa, in the story of Vena, in the greatness of the Guru Tīrtha, in the account of Cyavana, is the ninety-eighth chapter.
विष्णुरुवाच- स्तोत्रं पवित्रं परमं पुराणं पापापहं पुण्यमयं शिवं च । धन्यं सुसूक्तं परमं सुजाप्यं निशम्य राजा स सुखी बभूव
Viṣṇu said: This hymn, pure, supreme, ancient, remover of sin, full of merit and auspiciousness, blessed, well-spoken, supreme, and fit for worship—having heard it, the king became happy.
गतासु तृष्णा क्षुधया समेता देवोपमो भूमिपतिर्बभूव । भार्या च तस्यापि विभाति रूपैर्युक्तावुभौ पापविबंधमाप्तौ
His thirst and hunger departed; the king became equal to the gods. His wife too shone with beauty; both were freed from the bonds of sin.
