प्रावृट्कालांबुदाकारैर्मदिरैरुपशोभितैः । कलशैः शोभमानैस्तैर्ऋक्षैर्द्यौरिव भूतलम्
With jars shining like rainclouds of the monsoon season, filled with wine and resplendent, the earth appeared like the sky adorned with constellations.
दंडजालपताकाभिर्ऋक्षजालसमप्रभैः । तादृशैः स्फाटिकाकारैः कांतिशंखेंदुसन्निभैः
With banners of staff-arrays, shining like clusters of stars, and with crystal-like, radiant, moon-bright conch shells, it was adorned in such a manner.
हेमप्रासादसंबाधैर्नानाधातुमयैस्ततः । विमानैरर्बुदसंख्यैः शतकोटिसहस्रकैः
Then, with golden palaces crowded together, and countless aerial mansions made of various metals, numbering in the hundreds of crores and thousands.
सर्वभोगयुतैश्चैव शोभते हरिपत्तनम् । यैः समाराधितो देवः शंखचक्रगदाधरः
The city of Hari shone, endowed with all enjoyments, by those who had worshipped the Lord bearing the conch, discus, and mace.
ते प्रसादात्तस्य तेषु निवसंति गृहेषु च । सर्वपुण्येषु दिव्येषु भोगाढ्येषु च मानवाः
By the grace of that Lord, they dwell in those houses—humans in all the divine, meritorious, and pleasure-filled abodes.
वैष्णवाः पुण्यकर्माणो निर्धूताशेषकल्मषाः । एवंविधैर्गृहैः पुण्यैः शोभितं विष्णुमंदिरम्
The Vaiṣṇavas, performers of virtuous deeds, with all sins washed away, dwell in such meritorious houses, making the temple of Viṣṇu resplendent.
नानावृक्षैः समाकीर्णं वनैश्चंदनशोभितैः । सर्वकामफलै राजन्सर्वत्र समलंकृतम्
It is filled with various trees and adorned with sandalwood groves, decorated everywhere with trees yielding all desired fruits, O King.
वापीकुंडतडागैश्च सारसैरुपशोभितैः । हंसकारंडवाकीर्णैः कल्हारैरुपशोभितैः
With ponds, tanks, and lakes beautified by cranes, swans, and waterfowl, and adorned with blooming lotuses.
शतपत्रैर्महापद्मैः पद्मोत्पलविराजितैः । कनकोत्पलवर्णैश्च सरोभिश्च विराजते
It shines with hundred-petaled lotuses, great red lotuses, and is adorned with lotuses and water-lilies of golden hue.
वैकुंठं सर्वशोभाढ्यं देवोद्यानैरलंकृतम् । दिव्यशोभासमाकीर्णं वैष्णवैरुपशोभितम्
Vaikuṇṭha, adorned with all splendor and divine gardens, filled with celestial beauty, is made resplendent by the Vaiṣṇavas.
वैकुंठं ददृशे राजा मोक्षस्थानमनुत्तमम् । देववृंदैः समाकीर्णं ययातिर्नहुषात्मजः
King Yayāti, son of Nahusha, beheld Vaikuṇṭha, the supreme place of liberation, filled with hosts of gods.
प्रविवेश पुरं रम्यं सर्वदाहविवर्जितम् । ददृशे सर्वक्लेशघ्नं नारायणमनामयम्
He entered the delightful city, free from all burning pain, and saw Nārāyaṇa, the remover of all suffering, flawless.
विमानैरुपशोभंतं सर्वाभरणशालिनम् । पीतवासं जगन्नाथं श्रीवत्सांकं महाद्युतिम्
He saw the Lord of the universe, adorned with all ornaments, clad in yellow garments, marked with the Śrīvatsa, of great brilliance, shining amidst aerial mansions.
वैनतेयसमारूढं श्रियायुक्तं परात्परम् । सर्वेषां देवलोकानां यो गतिः परमेश्वरः
Mounted on Garuḍa, endowed with splendor, the Supreme Lord, who is the ultimate goal of all the worlds of the gods.
परमानंदरूपेण कैवल्येन विराजते । सेव्यमानं महालोकैःसुपुण्यैर्वैष्णवैर्हरिम्
He shines forth in the form of supreme bliss and liberation, worshipped by the great worlds and by the supremely virtuous Vaiṣṇavas.
देववृंदैः समाकीर्णं गंधर्वगणसेवितम् । अप्सरोभिर्महात्मानं दुःखक्लेशापहं हरिम्
Surrounded by hosts of gods, attended by groups of Gandharvas, and Apsarases, the great Lord Hari, remover of sorrow and suffering.
नारायणं ननामाथ स्वपत्न्या सह भूपतिः । प्रणेमुर्मानवाः सर्वे वैष्णवा मधुसूदनम्
Then the king, together with his wife, bowed to Nārāyaṇa; all the Vaiṣṇavas and humans bowed to Madhusūdana.
गता ये वैष्णवाः सर्वे सह राज्ञा महामते । पादांबुजद्वयं तस्य नेमुर्भक्त्या महामते
All the Vaiṣṇavas who had come with the king, O wise one, bowed with devotion to his two lotus feet.
प्रणमंतं महात्मानं राजानं दीप्ततेजसम् । तमुवाच हृषीकेशस्तुष्टोऽहं तव सुव्रत
To that great-souled king, radiant with brilliance and bowing in reverence, Hṛṣīkeśa spoke: 'I am pleased with you, O steadfast one.'
वरं वरय राजेंद्र यत्ते मनसि वर्तते । तत्ते ददाम्यसंदेहं मद्भक्तोसि महामते
'Choose a boon, O king of kings, whatever is in your heart. I will grant it to you without doubt, for you are my devoted follower, O wise one.'
राजोवाच यदि त्वं देवदेवेश तुष्टोसि मधुसूदन । दासत्वं देहि सततमात्मनश्च जगत्पते
The king said: 'If you, O Lord of gods, O slayer of Madhu, are pleased, then grant me eternal servitude to you, O Lord of the universe.'
विष्णुरुवाच- एवमस्तु महाभाग मम भक्तो न संशयः । लोके मम महाराज स्थातव्यमनया सह
Viṣṇu said: 'So be it, O greatly fortunate one. You are my devotee, without doubt. In this world, O great king, you shall remain with her.'
एवमुक्तो महाराजो ययातिः पृथिवीपतिः । प्रसादात्तस्य देवस्य विष्णुलोकं प्रसाधितम्
Thus addressed, King Yayāti, lord of the earth, by the grace of that god, attained the world of Viṣṇu.
निवसत्येष भूपालो वैष्णवं लोकमुत्तमम्
This king dwells in the supreme Vaiṣṇava realm.
सुकर्मोवाच- एतत्ते सर्वमाख्यातं चरित्रं पापनाशनम् । पुत्राणां तारकं दिव्यं बहुपुण्यप्रदायकम्
Sukarma said: 'All this, the story that destroys sin, has been told to you—divine and liberating for sons, bestowing much merit.'
प्रत्यक्षं दृश्यते लोके ययातिचरितं श्रुतम् । पूरुणाप्तं महद्राज्यं दुर्गतिं गतवांस्तुरुः
The deeds of Yayāti, as heard, are seen directly in the world: Pūru gained a great kingdom, while Turu fell into misfortune.
पितृप्रसादात्कोपाच्च यथा जातं तथा पुनः । पुत्राणां तारकं पुण्यं यशस्यं धनधान्यदम्
By the grace and anger of their father, as it happened then, so again: this is a meritorious, renowned, and wealth-bestowing tale for sons.
शापयुक्ताविमौ चोभौ तुरुश्च यदुरेव च । पितृमातृसमं नास्ति अभीष्टफलदायकम्
Both Turu and Yadu were subject to a curse; there is nothing equal to father and mother, who grant the fruits of one's desires.
साभिलाषेण भावेन पिता पुत्रं समाह्वयेत् । माता च पुत्रपुत्रेति तस्य पुण्यफलं शृणु
With longing in his heart, let a father call his son; and a mother, saying 'son, son'—hear the meritorious result of this.
समाहूतो यथा पुत्रः प्रयाति मातरं प्रति । यो याति हर्षसंयुक्तो गंगास्नानफलं लभेत्
When a son, thus called, goes to his mother with joy, he obtains the merit of bathing in the Ganges.
