I grant all desired wishes, up to those of the fourteen Indras; and here, those brahmins who come and perform Rudra-japa and the like,
who perform them with special care—I give to them, listen to this: happiness in women, happiness in sons, and again, increase of prosperity.
Śrī Mahādeva said: At Kambutīrtha, a man, after bathing and offering libations to the ancestors, should worship Nārāyaṇa, the flawless Lord of lords.
Having given gifts properly to the brahmins according to the rules, by the power of this tīrtha, he attains the world of Viṣṇu.
Here, formerly, the royal sage Viśvāmitra, wise and desiring offspring, performed intense austerity, O beautiful one.
Sustained by air, fasting, subsisting on wind alone, he was always devoted to Viṣṇu's worship and intent on meditation upon Viṣṇu.
By that austerity, he obtained the desired offspring; and any man who goes to Kambutīrtha, desiring offspring,
he always obtains offspring—this is true, true, O beautiful-faced one.
Thus is the glory of Kambutīrtha. Then one should go to the tīrtha named Kapīśvara, foremost among the gods, near Raktasiṃha, which destroys great sins.
Formerly, when the bridge was being built during the battle between Rāma and Rāvaṇa, the best of mountains was specially brought by the monkeys.
By the name Kapīśvarāditya, they made an excellent tīrtha there; at that tīrtha, a man who bathes and offers libations to the ancestors,
having seen Kapīśvarāditya, is freed from the sin of killing a brāhmaṇa; there, bathing should especially be done on the eighth day of Caitra.
There, headed by Hanumat, they bathed for three days; this is the power of Kapitīrtha, as declared to you.
At this tīrtha, a man who bathes and worships Kapīśvara becomes handsome and enjoys many pleasures—there is no doubt of this.
Whoever desires strength, or righteousness, or a son, all this he always obtains by the power of Kapitīrtha.
Thus, in the glorious Padma Mahāpurāṇa, in the Uttarakhaṇḍa of the compendium of fifty-five thousand verses, in the dialogue of Umā and Maheśvara, is the one hundred forty-second chapter named 'The Glory of Kapitīrtha.'
Mahadeva said: O Queen of the gods, then one should go to the great pilgrimage site of Brahmavalli. Hear directly, O best of the gods, the nature of that sacred place.
Where the waters of the Brahmavati join with the waters of Brahmavalli, that is known as Brahmatirtha, regarded as equal to Prayaga.
There, by offering pindas, satisfaction is attained for twelve years for the ancestors, surely as declared by Brahma.
Especially at Brahmavalli, the merit gained is equal to that of performing the rites at Gaya; when performed knowingly, the ancestors attain satisfaction.
Giving cows, land, and food—such gifts, especially at Brahmavalli, yield merit equal to those donations.
Here, Sanaka and others, after bathing according to prescribed rites and meditating on the supreme Brahman, attain the realm of Vishnu.
At Pushkara, on the Ganga, and in the field of Amarakaṇṭaka—O goddess—whatever fruit a person obtains by going there,
That fruit is also attained especially at Brahmavalli; and those who give gifts during lunar or solar eclipses,
They attain that same fruit at Brahmavalli, O Queen of the gods; they take on divine forms, bearing conch, discus, and mace.
They too go to heaven, O Queen of the gods, after bathing, wearing a garland of tulasi, and remembering Narayana; they reach the divine, blissful, and eternal abode of Vaikuntha.
Thus is the greatness of the Brahmavalli pilgrimage site. Then one should go to Vrishatirtha, renowned at Khandatirtha; there, after bathing, cows formerly residing in Goloka attain heaven.
By the righteousness of Khandatirtha, those cows, mothers of the world, who had fallen from their realm due to a curse, are restored; thus it is called Khandatirtha.
Parvati said: Whose curse befell the world-mothers, the cows, in ancient times? How did they fall from their realm, and how were they protected by righteousness?
Mahadeva said: Once, while playing in Goloka with their mothers, a bull released dung and urine, which fell upon the head of Hara.
