For them, I bring relief from disease after a long time; the disease, known as eighty-four types, has been described by me.
That disease is destroyed merely by the sight, O beautiful one; my liṅga does not exist there, O daughter of the mountain.
There, only bathing is to be performed for me—of this there is no doubt; at one and the same time, on this earth, O great ascetic,
there was a king of the solar dynasty, Brahmadatta, powerful; by that king, O queen of the gods, austerity was performed for a long time.
He performed the practice of the five fires in many ways; and many austerities such as monthly fasting and others were undertaken repeatedly.
Thus, for a very long time, the king performed great austerity; then I appeared before him in person, O beautiful one, for the sake of granting a boon.
"Brahmadatta, listen to this great statement, O king: whatever you desire always, that I shall grant, without doubt."
He said to me, "O Lord of the gods, if my wish is to be granted, let there be only one boon always given to me, O god."
By my name indeed, O Lord of the gods, let the Lord be born on earth; pleased by that request, I have granted a boon, O sinless one.
Then I dwell together with him, O Queen of the gods; remaining here, if one performs devotion in every way, fasting,
I grant all desired wishes, up to those of the fourteen Indras; and here, those brahmins who come and perform Rudra-japa and the like,
who perform them with special care—I give to them, listen to this: happiness in women, happiness in sons, and again, increase of prosperity.
Śrī Mahādeva said: At Kambutīrtha, a man, after bathing and offering libations to the ancestors, should worship Nārāyaṇa, the flawless Lord of lords.
Having given gifts properly to the brahmins according to the rules, by the power of this tīrtha, he attains the world of Viṣṇu.
Here, formerly, the royal sage Viśvāmitra, wise and desiring offspring, performed intense austerity, O beautiful one.
Sustained by air, fasting, subsisting on wind alone, he was always devoted to Viṣṇu's worship and intent on meditation upon Viṣṇu.
By that austerity, he obtained the desired offspring; and any man who goes to Kambutīrtha, desiring offspring,
he always obtains offspring—this is true, true, O beautiful-faced one.
Thus is the glory of Kambutīrtha. Then one should go to the tīrtha named Kapīśvara, foremost among the gods, near Raktasiṃha, which destroys great sins.
Formerly, when the bridge was being built during the battle between Rāma and Rāvaṇa, the best of mountains was specially brought by the monkeys.
By the name Kapīśvarāditya, they made an excellent tīrtha there; at that tīrtha, a man who bathes and offers libations to the ancestors,
having seen Kapīśvarāditya, is freed from the sin of killing a brāhmaṇa; there, bathing should especially be done on the eighth day of Caitra.
There, headed by Hanumat, they bathed for three days; this is the power of Kapitīrtha, as declared to you.
At this tīrtha, a man who bathes and worships Kapīśvara becomes handsome and enjoys many pleasures—there is no doubt of this.
Whoever desires strength, or righteousness, or a son, all this he always obtains by the power of Kapitīrtha.
Thus, in the glorious Padma Mahāpurāṇa, in the Uttarakhaṇḍa of the compendium of fifty-five thousand verses, in the dialogue of Umā and Maheśvara, is the one hundred forty-second chapter named 'The Glory of Kapitīrtha.'
Mahadeva said: O Queen of the gods, then one should go to the great pilgrimage site of Brahmavalli. Hear directly, O best of the gods, the nature of that sacred place.
Where the waters of the Brahmavati join with the waters of Brahmavalli, that is known as Brahmatirtha, regarded as equal to Prayaga.
There, by offering pindas, satisfaction is attained for twelve years for the ancestors, surely as declared by Brahma.
Especially at Brahmavalli, the merit gained is equal to that of performing the rites at Gaya; when performed knowingly, the ancestors attain satisfaction.
